I've never seen one. Are they around where you live? They sound horrible. The common paper wasp is bad enough but ok as long as you notice the nest before you bump into it.

Miners Rest - nest is usually within 500mts of where you see them, often in the ground (3" diam. hole) or the base of a fence post in our case. Nuisance value is all.

Pushed my lawn mower through a bush I was too lazy to cut back, got a crack over the back the head by a wasp. About as shocking a shock as you'd get.
