One must wonder how special so many stories are in horse racing, that the story seems "divine".

Planned. Predetermined.

Destined.

And when one starts speaking of Destiny, one is speaking of God.

How can it be, during the Great Depression, New Zealand sent over a physically ordinary horse to be named Phar Lap, for that horse to grow into a huge beast, nicknamed Big Red and the Red Terror.

Complete with a heart twice the size.

Phar Lap captured a gamut of emotions during troubled times. The entire nation backed him, with whatever little money they had.

Their return wasnt financial, it was spiritual.

Decade after decade some very special stories arise.

Fast forward to the modern era, and names like Might and Power, dominate.

Bonecrusher.

Octagonal.

Saintly, the horse from "heaven".

Whilst the sport has had literally countless tragic stories and is indeed often cruel, one cant ignore the side of "destiny", of what you could deem as God's plan.

Stories so special to the human spirit, to society, that it feels like only a God could plan it.

How is it, that this horse named Winx, possibly the most poetic and strongest name in the history of world horse racing, seems to defy her own physical self.

After all, she is just what most would consider to be like any other horse to look at in the paddock.

Yet, to complement the name, Winx, this horse has winning powers, that an entire society embraced as extraordinary.

A stride so fast, she makes sprinters seem slow.

Packed with lungs that enable her to keep going at distance.

Then there is the trainer. Chris Waller.

How can it be so perfect, that a gentleman, so gentle in nature, with a true adoration for the sport, for sports stories, and emotions to share for the world, became so much of the Winx story too?

Then there is the jockey, Hugh Bowman. A true sports enthusiast, who admires the likes of Roger Federer, and has gently piloted Winx, then been so humble in victory.

Life is mysterious.

Things we may never know.

Some stories just seem so special, so destined, like all the stars aligned, you really do wonder how much "God", loves the unity of animals and humans.

Because the Winx story is just far too coincidental and beautiful, it defies doubts we have about the world and about each other.

Its a miracle.

And we can surely be forgiven for thinking, even for doubters,, its Gods miracle.

For true lovers of horses and the sporting stories that racing has created, perhaps deep down we all know and share the same feeling on this, but we never really say it.

I once had a pet rabbit. It wasn't from New Zealand and it died of mixamatosis. Probably gods plan.

Well I pray for her safe return before every race so I'm a bit that way also.  But why ask.  If you believe the the world is our to do what we want with.  He gave us free will so we mostly mess up.  But I still say thank you when she comes home safely.

This thread should have been consigned to the Laundry Basket but since it and you are still around...

Hiter was far from atheist. Goebbels started as a Catholic. Religions, as different from "god" have been responsible for myriad atrocities over the centuries.

You were suggesting something about "god's plan" (which God we've yet to learn) and "destiny" so the question regarding the above seems obvious. A similar point was made during the same sex marriage debate. I'll leave you to work it out.
