Manaya well backed at Doomben in race 4. I've been watching the market closely and they were betting 17's half an hour ago. Now into $10 with the TAB and $8.50 on Sportsbet.

I had a little bet at the 17's and l went again at 13's.

Keen on Champagne Cuddles in the Tiara. If she holds her form she looks the winner to me. Drawn to get a lovely run.

Really nice win from Oakfield Missile at Newcastle. Franks the form for The Big Vin who has been mentioned on this forum once or twice before. He's in at Scone on Monday - $5 fixed.

Very nice. Fav was ridden poorly coming to turn.

Thanks 3bm! Yes, l was very happy when Shinn pocketed in the favourite. It was ideal for me. The caller kept mentioning l was 3 wide as if it was a bad thing. It's certainly not a bad thing when you have cover! That's exactly where you want to be.

Absolutely idiotic ride, It meant when he made his run he just kept getting pushed wider and wider round the bend.

He looks good odds doesn't he?! I'm sure he's city class. It looks like he's got a will to win which is a great sign for a Class1 at Scone.

The obvious knock is the 62 kilos but he looks a big enough horse so l think he'll be able to lump it okay.

I think Oakfield Missile can go through it's grades too. I'll be following it.

He's a monster, won't feel the 62 over 1100 imo. Shoud get a nice trail and will enjoy the roomy track. I expect he'll start close to fav. Main query is whether he's looking for further.

My thoughts exactly. Couldn't have done a worse job. Harry Angel was clearly having a meltdown yet he let them go.

It's up to the jockey to call out. Maybe he didn't yell?

Posted By: Speediskey
Date Posted: 24 Jun 2018 at 3:38am
But it wasn't just him, the ones next to him were going as well.. as for it being there job to call out.. Ok maybe they should call out but it is literally the starters only job to get them away in a fair line, its not like theres 24 horses he has to look at to see if they're all ready to go, it was a field of 12 with 3-4 rearing.

Posted By: ThreeBears
Date Posted: 24 Jun 2018 at 4:14am
Jockey did call out. He said he was ok. Didn't realise the horse had a foot up on the stall. Harry is a notorious gate monkey and very difficult to remove the hood from.

Stewards Report

An enquiry was held into the start of this race. The Starter and Adam Kirby, the rider of HARRY ANGEL (IRE) were interviewed. The Starter explained that HARRY ANGEL (IRE) was the penultimate horse to enter and had loaded with a stalls rug, but there had been a slight delay in loading the last horse, SIR DANCELOT (IRE), which was reluctant to enter. Consequently, HARRY ANGEL (IRE) had become fractious, kicking the rug off, and whilst he could see the rug moving from his position on the rostrum he was unable to see anything further. He added that Kirby had shouted at him to wait, which he had done, and when Kirby had indicated all was well he had effected the start. Kirby explained that HARRY ANGEL (IRE) had entered the stalls and had kicked out after the gates had been closed, causing him to lose an iron. He added that when he looked around, he could not see that the colt’s leg was on the running board as it was covered by the stalls rug, and once he had regained his iron he was happy to indicate to the Starter that all was well for the race to start. Their explanations were noted.

Oh yeh!  They didn't miss him today so lucky we got on early. "Cheques in the mail" MJB (don't wait for it though)LOL.

I was like a cat on a ht tin roof waiting (and wailing loudly towards the end I admit) for the barrier attendants to get them in. Incredible bloody laxity. TBV reared up twice while waiting for them to load the rest of the field but fortunately he then stood beautifully while the regular problem horse Roman Typhoon played up out the back. The first two stood in the stalls for nearly 4 minutes. Not good enough Scone RC!

Only realised today how strong the form was from his first run. King's Trust and Foreign Territory both went to the Kenso and won their next starts. Add to that Oakfield Missile's romp on Sat and it's looking very solid.

Runner up today was good as was the barrier rogue Roman Typhoon - another big lump who was winding up late - but TBV (good acronym that) gave them plenty of weight and a sound beating. His size gives him a huge advantage as far as hcp weights go.

I suppose it is the connections responsibility to have horses schooled to load and be used to the starting stalls.
If they aren't and act up and miss the kick ,   stiff bikkies.
That's Racing.

What about the punters ?  Harry was favorite.  It makes it difficult to bet with any confidence if we can't be assured of fair starts.

A barrier blanket plus a blindfold leaves a very small margin for error, he won't be coming our way anytime soon but that's poor consolation for punters who imo were dudded.

Punters backing Harry at Ascot ( where he had a history of below form runs and poor manners ) were taking a risk that was well known.

All other tracks 5/5

These days trainers take the easy option too often. Too many horses?
Barrier blankets, blindfolds, earmuffs and what ever should have never been allowed.

Harry is renowned for his bad barrier manners. The fact he wears a blindfold into the barriers might tell them that.
Any punter who puts money on a horse that consistently misbehaves in the barriers is taking the risk that the horse will not play up. And when the horse does go bananas the punter wants to blame someone else.

Crown boost. They haven't cut me yet but after today that might change

Cry Crystal ball was right. No more boosts from Crown. At least they had a reason for restricting me unlike the morons at SB/PP

I suspect that if such a start were affected for The Everest or the Newmarket you would be howling like there was no tomorrow.

It doesn't matter who the horse is.  Punters are entitled to a fair start.  Scratch the horse at the gates if it will not co-operate but the panic and haste of the start of the Diamond Jubilee was unsatisfactory.

FWIW I tipped Redkirk but didn't bet the race.

Thumbs Up Amen to that Tontonan.

Anyone see if the French had anything to say about the sudden start? City Light lost because he reared on jumping
