Subway customer whips out ruler and finds ‘6-inch sub’ is actually just 4 and a half inches

Gutted Karly Coulton ordered the sandwich for lunch but after opening it thought it looked a lot smaller than expected

A Subway diner was shocked when she measured her 'six inch' sub - and it measured just 4 and a half.

Gutted Karly Coulton ordered the sandwich for lunch but after opening it thought it looked a lot smaller than expected.

She then decided to whip out a ruler to measure the sub and found her suspicions were correct.

The sub, which she paid £3.80 for, turned out to be only four-and-a-half inches long - 1.5 inches smaller than advertised.

Karly, 33, said: "I popped out of work to grab a quick bite to eat and Subway was one of the nearest places to go.

"I chose a six-inch inch baguette but thought it looked extremely small, especially for the money.

"Naturally, once I was back in the office my colleagues and I decided to measure it up for size with a ruler, and as suspected, it was not six inches at all!

"I was duped out of an inch and a half. If I go back again I'll be taking my trusty ruler."

Karly. who is a broadcast journalist for Heart FM, says she bought her sandwich from the Honiton Road branch in Exeter, Devon, on Wednesday and then joked about its size on social media.

She jokingly tweeted: "Just got back to the office with my £3.80 "6 inch" @SUBWAY (where I've never bought from before) and just bloody look.

"As I thought, not 6 inches at all! I knew I knew my inches. Rippedoff Exeter"

A Subway spokesman said: "The goal of our Sandwich Artists is to always make a great sandwich for their customers.

"Bread that is baked fresh each day in the store can cause some variation, but in this case we acknowledge that the bread does not meet our standards for producing a Sub of consistent length.

"We apologise to the customer and request that she revisits her local store where the franchisee would be happy to refund and replace the Sub."

Karly Coulton ended up with a 25% reduction in her sandwich length

Similar with same colour scheme. The colours are half black, half white AA. The white part is just obscured in that photo. One arm white, one black. Super was all black, white sleeves.
Was reported post race that he whacked his head in the stalls at Epsom which might explain why he gave the leaders a decent start which was out of character for him.

Interesting you joke about that.

What affect do you think perfume has in a stable full of colts.

The article I posted yesterday mentions it and one of the biggest trainers of the 19th/20th century demanded his owners not bring their wives and or mistresses along wearing perfume.

Perhaps our stables could bring in these rules.

Good point.

And to emphasize what you suggest, we had a 3yo colt racing a few weeks ago and the SA Racing people  had him stabled between two fillies.  Ermm

Needles to say that lasted about three minutes.

I even saw that happen with Winx.  She wasn't in the correct stall as the colt next to that stall was egging them both up!  Sometimes you would think the racing club staff who allot these stalls would think along the lines of avoiding this.  Plenty of geldings to put between.  Also I know of a horse which hates greys and they had him next to the clarks of the course!  It was like a war zone before the trainer just left him out the back - this was on Golden Slipper day and he was running in the big one.  His chance went out the window very quickly.

1973 Grand National[ https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Crisp_%28horse%29&action=edit&section=2" rel="nofollow - edit ]

Before the off, Crisp was 9/1 joint-favourite with Red Rum to win the National. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_%28horse%29#cite_note-2" rel="nofollow - [2]  However, by the time the runners had reached  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chair_%28Aintree_Racecourse%29" rel="nofollow - The Chair , Crisp, who was carrying the top weight of 12 stone (a weight that is now forbidden in the National), had already built up a significant lead and appeared unstoppable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_%28horse%29#cite_note-GNhistory-3" rel="nofollow - [3]  For much of the initial stages, his closest challenger was Bill Shoemark on Grey Sombrero, but that horse fell (fatally) at The Chair, gifting Crisp an even greater lead which had grown to 20 lengths by the end of the first circuit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_%28horse%29#cite_note-4" rel="nofollow - [4]

Just a furlong to run now, 200 yards now for Crisp, and Red Rum is still closing on him! Crisp is getting very tired, and Red Rum is pounding after him. Red Rum is the one who's finishing the strongest. He's going to get up! Red Rum is going to win the National. At the line Red Rum has just snatched it from Crisp!

Commentator  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_OSullevan" rel="nofollow - Peter O'Sullevan  describes the climax of the 1973 National

Jockey Pitman later recalled that at the  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bechers_Brook" rel="nofollow - Becher's Brook  fence on the second circuit, fallen jockey  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Nicholson_%28horse_racing%29" rel="nofollow - David Nicholson  shouted at him, "Richard, you're 33 lengths clear, kick on and you'll win!" At the same time, he heard the Tannoy commentator  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_OHehir" rel="nofollow - Michael O'Hehir  declare, "And Red Rum is coming out of the pack,  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Fletcher" rel="nofollow - Brian Fletcher  is kicking him hard!" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_%28horse%29#cite_note-independent-1" rel="nofollow - [1]

At the 30th and final fence, Crisp was still 15 lengths ahead of Red Rum, who was ridden by Fletcher and given 10 stone, 5 lb by the handicapper. However, Crisp was beginning to tire badly on the 494-yard run-in, carrying 23 lb more than his nearest rival. Red Rum made up considerable ground, and two strides from the finishing post he pipped Crisp by three-quarters of a length to win his first of three Grand National titles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_%28horse%29#cite_note-GNhistory-3" rel="nofollow - [3]

Even in defeat, Crisp had bettered the Grand National completion time by a full 20 seconds, a record that had stood for the 40 previous years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_%28horse%29#cite_note-independent-1" rel="nofollow - [1]

Despite Red Rum's unprecedented record in Grand Nationals and securing his place in British sporting history, the 1973 race is as much remembered for Crisp's run-in defeat as it was for Red Rum's narrow victory. Veteran commentator  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_McGrath_%28Australian_commentator%29" rel="nofollow - Jim McGrath called the battle between Red Rum and Crisp among the highlights of all Grand Nationals and said that Crisp was the unluckiest horse in the race's history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_%28horse%29#cite_note-5" rel="nofollow - [5]

After the National[ https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Crisp_%28horse%29&action=edit&section=3" rel="nofollow - edit ]

Crisp ran three times in the season after his second-place effort in the 1973 National. After a warm up race over hurdles at Wincanton he won a two and a half mile chase at Newbury beating two mile champion chaser  https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Royal_Relief&action=edit&redlink=1" rel="nofollow - Royal Relief . Then, at Doncaster, he had a match race, at level weights, against his old foe Red Rum. With a twenty three pound weight turnaround from Aintree, Crisp won by eight lengths, but injured himself in doing so, and was retired for the season.

Pitman, his jockey, said in a 2003 interview that following his retirement from racing, Crisp then hunted for the next eight seasons. He died out hunting, and was buried at the entrance of his then-owner's estate. A cherry tree was planted over the grave, which flowers at Grand National time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisp_%28horse%29#cite_note-independent-1" rel="nofollow - [1]
