High Chaparral x Makybe Diva 4 year old gelding (sorry djebel)

Trained by Robert Hickmott , owned by Lloyd and Nick Williams
Let's hope he's faster than Taqneen

What did Lloyd pay for him?

He was sold at 2014 Easter Yearling Sales for $275,000.

I'm curious as to why this horse, who has never started in a race is weighted on 58.5kg? As a maiden, shouldn't he be on the limit weight of 54kg? Or do maidens automatically get assigned a benchmark rating of 61?

Maidens can get any rating , first starters in a race other than maiden grade are rated around the 60 mark

Lloyd didn't end up accepting with SURREY for Sandown on Weds. We'll gave to wait another day to see if he has any ability.

You'd expect that he has some ability given that Lloyd has hung onto him this long.

Then again, you would have assumed the same about Shadwell and Taqneen.

Actually nice pedigree and it seems he ran true to Makybe Diva's family.  Late maturer.  Wonder what held him back this long though.  Hope he can go on with the job.

No doubt a very impressive win by one with a big future. But Melbourne Cup? Any recent history of a runner after only debuting six months earlier?

Lets Elope was only 10 months into her career when she won the first leg of her Cups double.

Thanks for the alert Dizzy. Looking at the weights, it looks like the race is ‘jumpers flat’

That a amateur riders race and his jockey was a throw back to the 80s, the 1880s.

Very very heavy ground. Don't thibk we would even have a rating for it over here haha.

Pretty plain run, but super heavy track conditions.

They abandoned the meeting after Race 2 due to the state of the track. A shame as there were some big feature races later on the card.
