I know it's only a maiden at Warrnambool, but far out that was some win

Was a good win. He was side by the side with the other favorite out the back and left it paddling a long way from home. I would love to see if he was as dynamic when ridden closer to the speed.

Weir horses can defy the drift, eh.

Posted By: Sunline
Date Posted: 17 Nov 2016 at 11:11pm
The drift suggests the horse presented as nowhere near ready in the yard. To arrive like that, go back as far as it did, round them up and win as it did, augurs well for the future considering it has raced well over 1600m and 2000m in Germany - today was only 1300m.

By Mamool - if memory serves me correctly, he was a Melbourne Cup favourite for Godolphin one year and did nada.

Yes that was a really nice win , seems they have a bit of an opinion of him. Early days yet but gee, was very impressive.

Even though they probably bought him as a potential stayer, I think it would be fun to keep him at 7 furlongs, and see how he progresses.

A couple of G1s in February.

I watched with interest on Wednesday , I didn't think he could win the way they where racing , and then he was posted 3 wide the whole way, all be it with "cover" , when he got to the bend I thought "he'll gas now", but sweet Jesus he hit the go button and accelerated for an authoritative win.

Seeing his runs in Germany where over 1600-2000 m there is no doubt he was bought as a stayer, however he did finish 2nd in each one of those races. Is 1400-1600 more of his go?

Either way he is an excellent style of horse and very entertaining. Swooping horses are always exciting to watch.

Ben Allen said he wanted to get trucking early but the cover helped so I doubt they'd step up 'till he's learned to drop the bit & relax. Remember he's only 3 1/2yo in actual terms.

A mate of mine brought a share and they said to him its a 1400-1800m horse when he was brought. Agree promising but long way to go - beaten nothing although looked big in the mounting yard

I think your mate going to have a lot of fun . Sorry but I think this Colt is a cracker and judging by his splits in every race start , he is above average irregardless of opposition

Very true MK and he's not the only one . Taken from anzbloodstocknews

"After his impressive win in a Warrnambool Maiden (1300m) on 17 November, Plein Ciel followed that with an even more impressive win in the Benchmark 64 (1400m) at the Sandown Hillside track on Wednesday.
After racing back in sixth place, Plein Ciel came with a wide run before racing away to score brilliantly, looking suited to much longer distances than 1400 metres.
Visually he was impressive, his times even more so, with Plein Ciel returning 200 metre sections (from the 1000m) of 11.09, 10.78 (400m in 21.87), 11.57 (600m in 33.44) 10.81 (800m in 44.25) with his last 200 metres in 11.46 for a brilliant nal 1000 metre time of 55.71.
Plein Ciel looks a classy horse with Group potential"

He's a rating 70 now so I would think a 1400-1600 m City Saturdsy race in the next couple of weeks ?

Agree. I managed to get on at the $3.60. But expect deductions with Rewarding Effort probably coming out.

Just had a look at the Sandown result and and both the 3yo fillies and maiden ran faster time over the same distance. Fillies were almost 6 lengths faster according to R&S. Not suggesting he's not a promising type but the hype in that article is overblown. Sandown is a track which provides incredible extremes of margins and times. By the by r.com has him running 54.91 for the last kilometre.

$3.60!!!!! I checked last night and it's already $2.60 . Be a test for him though 1600m step up in class doubt he'll be able to sit 3 wide again for the 3 Rd time and win . Having said that Sportsbet power play deserves a nice little bet haha

3 wins from 3 starts by another 3 1/4 lengths . This horse has got talent . Couldn't take the short odds but had the double with stable mate big Duke paid $6.14 awsome .

I had it on top as well but also couldn't take it at the price. Liked the way it was able to sit up outside the lead and put them away. Not a lot of depth in the race but visually impressive.

He still looked pretty green to me as he was playing up in the yard and weir said that he was relaxed at home but always played up at the trials and races . Makes it hard looking at that when you're having a punt . Still he's won every race in oz so far and that's no easy feat . Not many horses string a lot wins together every fortnight . Movie brained them last time at the valley but she was no match for him . I rekon he'll
Probably run well next 2 starts (78-84 class) and then after that he'll really be tested . But he's still only a 3 and a half in real time being northern hemisphere . Just a class above , inter sting to see where his ceiling is .

Anyone game enough to predict how high he can go? Does he have group one potential?

Still hasn't beaten much. But doing it easily. Always difficult to know exactly how good they are in that type of situation.

More often than not they don't measure up but it can be very difficult to get a handle on how good they are this time of the year. Personally I think he could measure up to Listed or G3 level but needs to improve a few lengths to be G1 but that was only his fifth start so he could easily do that.

Pretty good assessment. I'd have to add though if a horse has ability , which this bloke has , they also need a ton of luck and they're a chance in any race . Look at the maiden Famous Shamous, never one s race until he wins the Cox plate . He's no pie eater could win any black type then won 2 group 1s they only black type he ever won . Tears I cry won a group 1 with outed winning any other group races and so on and so on .

Not sure how to edit my spelling but it should have read couldn't win any black type until he won 2 group 1s , and a few other misspellings there' but I think you got the jist

Couldn't agree more . He looks a cracking Entire and IMO untapped ability . All he
Needs is a bit of luck (like they all do ) in a big race and he'll jag it . Anyway , it's all about the odds for me lol or Multis . I saw that with sportsbet he was $81 for the Melbourne cup and now $41????? Surely he wouldn't race in the cup this year , could he? Strange thing he's not in the Caulfield cup betting markets , or any other market for that matter . Anyway best of luck to connections

Granted Moss 'n' Dale is a mudlark who is fit and in form, but I have Plein Ciel a class above and he can win this fresh like he did first up last prep despite blowing a gale.

$2.3 is still around. I feel he SPs closer to evens.

Why so wide?

Six wide the trip is not a good way to be riding this horse

Ride him too arrogant , too far back , too wide was still closing in on them at the finish, if he came up the inside and reached the winner he probably wins

Agreed - could have poked along at the back rather than swinging so deep.

Shocking ride. He couldn't have rode it any better if he was trying to get it beat. No urgency to tack on, lost touch at least twice, then with acres of space on the rail and through the middle he pushes very deep and gave away at least 5 lengths to the winner.

Diabolical.

nothing beats self interest - proper form students backed Moss N Dale into fav so there was a reason ! The best horse won on the day and he was the favourite so everyone's happy

Agree, there are no hard luck stories in a 6 horse race.

Don't agree with the proper form students bit though Manny, that is crap.

Moss n dale, third up , rock hard fit , known heavy tracker , fav in market , ridden a treat didn't cover any ground was clear of trouble , found right part of track . City winner. Wins

Plein Ciel first up, didn't look rock hard fit, although looked fitter than first up last time, untried on heavy track, gives leader 7 lengths and is two lengths off second last horse in running, Covers extra ground, fans 15 wide after having a muddling run, storms home for a fast finishing 1.5 length 3rd . class horse , bigger fish to fry over further distance.

That's racing

Aure

Is Moss n Dale the better horse? I think that is what Manny was saying?

Or did Plien Ciel just race lengths below its best

I read he expressed it as the best horse "on the day" meaning he was primed for the win and all stars aligned . Can I add 13 starts for 7 wins that's pretty damn good. MND has as many wins as PC has had races. I sill think PC has a lot more improvement to come though. As far as the better horse, only time will tell

MND also won in Sydney - much tougher than those in Melb.

Why are we discussing Moss and Dale on this thread. Start a Moss and Dale thread if you want to waffle on about him

I got your question to him and it was relevant and I think you know the answer.

Of course Moss 'n' Dale is not a better horse.

The smart money I think was for Plein Ciel it was a dog of a ride, reminded me of Billy Idol on Veandercross.

I did say that there are no excuses in a 6 horse race and it is a throw away line that is kind of true.

Plein Ciel could be a very good horse, I liked the fact he was sweating profusely down his neck, white lather which spells the end for most horses however he flew home.

There are bigger and better things in store for him who knows he might even sneak into a Caulfield Cup field one day.
Manny used self interest as the evil of all mankind yet then proceeded to make comments full of his own self interest.

Winners are grinners and the rest can please themselves is a well known saying however I think it is a weak outlook.

Plein Ciel was given a perfectly good ride.  Had every possible chance.  Plein Ciel ran well.  It is just that Moss 'N' Dale ran better

The horse was a real problem before the start at W'bool, and no surprise Allen couldn't ride him as well as he otherwise might've.

Building a nice record but won a weak handicap with no weight at Sandown where margins are often exaggerated. Funny I think I made a similar comment about him somewhere else.

And as a punter that's perfectly placed got a perfect collect . Hope they keep doing it . $2.70 Wednesday money for jam .

out of interest , would you explain your theory of "Sandown winning margins are exaggerated " I think Sandown is currently one of the fairest racing tracks in the country .
