I know we have plenty of competitions already, but i'm just curious if there is enough interest in doing another one, where the basic idea would be that everybody picks one horse each from any yearling sale, and try to get the best return possible on the sale price and/or get the best bargain out of everybody's choice. I would do all the work on it, as Dizzy and Gay3 already have their hands full, unless they were happy to chip in but regardless i am happy to do all the work. So basically the rules would be everybody gets 1 yearling pick, and the overall ideas would be to pick the cheapest yearling to get a decent return on the track, not sure whether i would put an upper limit in the comp, something like 10k maximum purchase price, and/or a condition such as only focus on horses that stay in Aus, as obviously any horses that go to HK etc have a big advantage when it comes to prizemoney. If people are interested let me know in this thread, if you think their is enough comps running already let me know as well, i suspect a few people might think this is the case. |

Yeah the 10k was just thrown in there as a random number, i'm completely open to ideas, but i think the best way to do it would be prizemoney, coz obviously you could do things like get a filly and then eventually she gets sold as a broodie for a decent price, and considering fillies more likely to get retired early maybe go for colts only? Again i'm just throwing ideas in here. |

Agree with the prizemoney only being counted as opposed to sales prices. Maybe we should get a backup in case on retires early? Yeah a backup is pretty easy, we don't have to track them unless we use it, but you can only sub if dead or retired officialy, even though i know some are retired but not 'officially' so that could be a small snag. Thoughts on oz racing only? HK money is higher, nz and south africa very low. |

| A filly just won in South Africa that was bought for $5,000 so yes they go overseas at that price. Some also find their way to Korea and Macau and Singapore in that price bracket. |

Were you at the Vobis Gold sale Ted? For this comp i started looking at the Nicconi's, only on line, nice types, wonderful stallion percentage, and cheap. Deserves to do better. For this comp, will probably settle on Lot 253, related to Bomber Bill, bought by D O'Sullivan for 10k

Dizzy - Thank you for any assistance, in a grid or spreadsheet will look far superior to any list, if your happy to set it up initially you can tell me how do update it, as you have your hands full with the other comps, perhaps i can even help update the spreadsheets of the over comps too. At this stage the cut off date for entries is August 1st. However if somebody is a couple of days late i'm not going to be a hanging judge, but we do need a cut off point. Majority rules, i'm certainly not looking to be a dick about cutting people off from changing or having reserve picks etc, maybe the group think needs to come up with some hard rules with regards to overseas horses, sub horses etc etc. Anything i've said has just been meant as general guidelines. |

I think eventually i'll create a new thread for this comp when we have the gist of the rules and guidelines for the comp worked out, plus when more people have submitted. I'm happy to have two live picks per person, but with everything i'm happy to go with the group think. |

So the major decision that needs to be decided, albeit we are in no rush whatsoever, is whether we are going to have 2 with 1 reserve for 1 with 2 reserves, i favour the former, but am happy to go with the majority. With double up's, my preference is not to, however again i'll go with the majority. Stop submissions around early August, i'll post on the main board a week or two before we close to give other who mightn't seen this new comp a chance to enter. |

I see most people are pushing the 20k limit which is obviously not a problem, i wouldn't mind seeing a little bit more speculating at the bottom end, if Shawy's Bon Hoffa wins a normal maiden he'll probably take out the best percentage category.  |

I think the worry for mine is that under $10k there may be bad legs/xrays unless it is very unfashionably bred.. since I haven't been able to make it to the sales to see myself, seems a little safer to go with one that had a little bidding competition... That's my strategy anyway lol I'll say 2 with 1 reserve seems a good idea if it doesn't create too much extra work... ------------- Lost in the magical world of racing. My second horse (or first reserve, if we're having one and two reserves) will be: VOBIS Gold Lot 167 - Zoffany x Beheshta $11,000 to Frankie Stockdale (will probably be pinhooked). Wouldn't we all like to find another The Big Dance! There were something like 30+ horses <$2,000 at the VG Sale that year, and hardly any this year. Give it a few years, the bottom end will drop again and that's when one will pop up. |

Thanks Dizzy. Beliskner, I'd say dealers choice. If one gets pinhooked you can choose to take the money and run, or you can stick with it and hope the prizemoney exceeds the sale price. It may depend on where they get sold to, ie: if my Zoffany gets pinhooked to South Africa I'd take the money. However, if you take the sale price, that's locked in and you can't then swap it out for your reserve later. |

Entries will be open until August 1st, but will probably leave it open a few extra days to give occasional posters a chance to join or change/add to their current picks. You can change or add picks at anytime, i update the spreadsheet every couple of weeks and dizzy posts it. I know your High Chap somebody has also picked, i don't care about double ups, i don't know what other people think but i don't think anybody has a problem with it. |

Hey guys I've just had a thought that you might be able to add to any of your running comps. I was out at the weanling sales at Melbourne on the weekend and got the idea.There are plenty of weanlings sold at these sales that will never see another sale again for various reasons. Some are bought by syndicators, breeders or people like us who buy to race. Some go on to be very good race horses and win black type others just don't go on or whatever reason. But because of who bought them they will never go through the sales ring again and are lost to your comps. But lets say you have a chance to buy in at the weanling sales for your comps list. Then from there you can use these purchases to add to your yearling lists or racing lista later when the horse makes it's racing debut? A little like the a rookie list or supplementary list. Just a thought anyway
