Every so often you see a new member of the family make their debut. I might keep a track of them in this thread. Big smile

Believing was I think ridden by a 4 kilo claiming apprentice.

He will win plenty of races when he carries a senior jockey on board.

Can't get any more senior than Max Allen who rode him today. He's in his 40s and has been riding for 20+ years. Think you have your wires crossed.

Was a good run by the horse today. Blackbooker for sure.

Seems you are correct. He rides like a 4 kilo claimer.

An unraced youngster will can miss the start irrespective of all the barrier work it's been given and the best efforts of any rider.

ps Matty (or Max) has somehow managed to ride 626 winners at a strike rate of 13.8% for prizemoney of almost $10m.

I wonder if Green Desert is better for this family than Danehill?... Just thinking Foreign Courier brings a bit more to the table than Razyana.

Similarly, do Flying Spur & Casino Prince work because of what Rolls (as Raise A Native & Sir Ivor add to Ciboulette) and Lady Capel (with Kenmare & Last Tycoon) add to the mix, not necessarily because they're descendants of the great Danehill.

Basically, the strategic, or pot-luck reinforcement or topping up of the Barb & Turk sirelines, either directly or through female descendant (within the first five generations).

This mare,  Diva Von Tessa was purchased on my recommendation as suitable mare for Jimmy Choux.

The result of the planned mating is Lot 837 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Session.

Certainly finds out if Vain does react with the family.  As an aside Jimmy Choux is one you can still find a Todman double in.  Through Centaine (2nd dam a daughter of Rain Shadow by Todman) and 3rd dam Imposing Choice a daughter of Todman's Epsom winning won Imposing.

I'd be looking for a filly from the Palatious family.  Would also make an interesting cross for Jimmy Choux.

Thanks for the insight and correction Furious     (ocassionally I move a mare forward in the pedigree to help client understand and in excitement forget to put it back.)

This mare another purchased as special for Jimmy. This is how we inbred to Todman or to Jimmy's female side, and then Centaine's female side.  Believe they both have bias this way

Love that one although the female line is not up to the Scandinavia family.  Enough Biscay in the sire but if you take Cosmic Endeavour as the check maybe you need a bit of Mr Prospector and Sadler's Wells/Fairy King as well.  But really think the Stratum mares will excel at stud.  And I've noticed he has an affinity with Century blood and you get that in Centaine.  To be truthful would prefer this one to the first but I haven't seen a photo of the first so that could sway me.

You don't have to change positions Swynford just highlight that this sire or mare appears just off the page.  Sometimes it is what we can't see that makes a pedigree ie the Bletchingly/Danzig cross.  They decend from the same mare Lady Susan in the 7th generation.  But when put together these two stallions clicked.

As with Star Kingdom - it was his 7th dam Canterbury Pilgrim who was the first successful broodmare on his female line.  She produced two wonderful sire sons in Chaucer and Swynford but it took awhile for the next to emerge didn't it.  If the female line has a great one in it never give up.  They will come back if given a chance.

It is interesting that century does seem to trigger certain lines in a powerful way , I have been researching his influence in our breeding patterns and I must say he loves Bletchingly blood.
Ps love both of your posts guys .

Don't think so.  Smile

I've got a couple of Hopfgarten owners involved though.

2005 - Dreamy - Maiden winner from 13 starts. [Bel Esprit]
2012 - Unrealistic - Maiden winner from 8 starts. [Lonhro]
2006 - Belleluia - Maiden winner from 2 starts. [Bel Esprit]
2011 - Fiscal Stimulus - Maiden from 2 starts [Bushranger]
               2012 - Scandimania - BM 64 winner from 6 starts [Magnus]
2013 - Sweet Caviar - Placed from 2 starts [Wanted]
2007 - Unnamed God's Own
2008 - Outshine Me - Maiden winner from 11 starts. [E&E]
2011 - Unnamed Chosior

Immediate family disappointing to say the least, but for some reason Belleluia has been sent to Fastnet two years in a row, after 3 years of average to terrible stallions.

Epic moment sold for 675k to Sun Bloodstock and Eliza Park, who i thought were one and the same?

Crazy price considering the performance of the immediate family.

Lionhearted [Fastnet Rock - Scandinavia] runs in races 5 at Caulfield tomorrow.

Already had 4 starts including:

0.8l 2nd in the Group 2 Skyline
1.6l 4th in the Group 2 Pago Pago

Based on those runs would have to be one of the leading chances, and if he wins tomorrow, the race being listed pretty much guarantees him staying an entire.

Scandimania lit up the 955 at The Valley tonight. Ran a low 55, not good enough for the voucher, but went over the line hands & heels.

Drew barrier 8 and rail out 2 metres. Carried her full 57 and not punched right out as she beat her bunny early on straightening. She could well have beaten the best time with a tad more luck. Very smart win.

If you have a good mare do you back your judgement and send her to the same sire every season until you know it's working or not or do you go for the scattershot approach and send her to a different sire every season?

Ken McLean quotes Tesio in saying "if you think enough of a mating to do it once you must repeat 4 times" (not 100% certain of that number Wink)
Secretariat was the result of about the 6th repeat.
Hopefully someone can correct any errors in the above Big smile

Todman and Noholme were the first two of seven named foals to Star Kingdom.

Magic Symbol had three named foals to Star Kingdom 1st Star of Heaven 2nd Biscay 3rd Tattenham

Secretariat was the 10th foal for his dam Somethingroyal.  She only went to Bold Ruler three times and he was the last try the first Syrian Sea also being a multiple stakes winner. Somethingroyal had 10 different mates for her 15 named foals.

Eight Carat had three named by Zabeel 1st Octagonal, 2nd Mouawad and 3rd Colombia.  She also had three named by Sir Tristram 1st Kaapstad, 2nd La Brillante and 3rd Nine Carat.  Seems Zabeel was the better mate.

Helsinge went to Bel Esprit three times with Black Caviar first foal.

Selene went to Phalaris three times for Sickle, Pharamond and lastly Salamis.

Ribt was the first of two named foals by Tenerani from his dam.

Ada Hunter visited bletchingly six times for 1st Kingston Town, 2nd Private Thoughts her only two stakes winners.

Promising had four named foals by Kaoru Star and the 1st was Luskin Star.

Thank you furious, Prince Delville was a favourite in my school days, Roman Holiday was used as a track work mate and stablemate of Rising Fast, from all accounts a genuine horse with limited ability but a perfect foil for his better known stablemate at track work.

Found an old photo of some interest!

One of our first mares - the beautiful LOVE SONG, and her filly later named Lover's Chariot.

Love Song holds a special place in history as her great grand daughter Helsinge produced the super star Black Caviar. So Love Song is the 4th dam of Black Caviar.
Lover's Chariot, aka Zippy, holds a very special place in our hearts. We owned her on 4 separate occasions throughout her life, including the end of her life. She is buried on my friends farm. Zippy is the grand mother of the last Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time.

The Fugutive goes around in about 15 minutes.

The family could well have the two best 2yo colts in each country seen so far,

I've been asked by a friend to suggest some bargain basement stallions for a mare with Song Of Norway as her 3rd dam, so immediately targeted a duplication of that line.
Well, what a disappointment; every male bar a couple have been gelded leaving me with Moshe only, Magnus being way out of range (breed to race).
Are there any in Vic. that I'm unaware of?

We have done the moshe Cross in a different way. Found a mare who third dam was full sister to vain so went to moshe for that regard.

I think one of haysey for Rob Crabtree May have gone to stud

Typhon has been getting winners in SA.  Not listed as deceased but hasn't served mares in recent years.

Yes, I saw there was no advertised stud fee so looked no further. He's done quite well too from, I would imagine, mares of limited quality.

It's possible to over-egg the cake.

Four foals by Magnus from Midnight Blues and none of them much good at all.

Mind you Robert Crabtree is the major shareholder in Magnus and owns Midnight Blues outright so can please himself.

Terrific result, and an early pick-up by you.  Thumbs Up

Helsinge family as you identify, with a triple of Vain.  What do you know, Black Caviar from the same family with just a double of Vain.  In both cases with Danehill nowhere in sight.
