Won her last 3 starts by a combined 17 lengths including today in the city by 7.8 lengths.

Beat a few smart ones today in the process. Stable has a big opinion.

Half sister to Honey Cara, how far can she go?

In at the deep end on Saturday.

She does look pretty special. Able to rattle off quick last 600m despite racing on the pace with no cover.

Very poorly weighted but it's a race of no depth with a couple of classy ones she has to beat.

You know I'm a King Kinshasa fan and I'll be on him. But she can run a race. She just doesn't look suited.

The challenge they have is the lack of 2400m races for her. Nothing else on the agenda.

What happens to weights if Gallante does not accept?

I reckon she has Kink K covered

Will be cheering on this girl today.

Out of a daughter of Zabeel - hope she can bring it home for that legend.

Hugely disadvantaged at the weights (12kgs) - but she is a big girl & coming on strong.

Great family this one!

I hope so - I have my $1.50 each way.

2nd behind Mongolian Khan in the Derby (just fell short) & huge run in the Caulf Cup (sixteenth on settling, fifteenth at 1200m, eighteenth at 800m, sixteenth on turn). He stays it all right.

As a matter of fact - I am so bullish I am doubling my bet to $3 e/way

There was a 200/1 shot sitting outside lead offering protection, how could anyone put the pressure on then?

Between the 1200-1400 they ran a 12.41 and between the 1000-1200 they ran a 12.56 yet Real Love and Tom Melborne were 4-5L off the lead with riders unmoved!!

Dylanson dropped off at the 700m mark rounding the turn and even from 800-1000 they got away with a 12.23 then the leader dropped a 11.89 on them from the 800-600 and the race was over as no one was up and moving and they were all caught flat footed.

Horses like Tom Melbourne and Real Love as well Amelie's Star need to be out and rolling not asked to peel off a sub 11 from a standing start

Surely the Centaurea Stks (a $125k listed race) is not the main aim for this campaign?

I'm hoping they go to Qld for the Brisbane Cup. Winning that (or any other 2400m+ black type race) would at least re-qualify her for the Spring Cups.

Might be better option to miss Doomben Cup, then pick up easy Centaurea as an easy kill, before going to Bris for Eagle Farm Cup?

Could be going to Doomben. Basically, Weiry doesn't want to take her up there if she can't be competitive . A win today would pay for the trip away, has to earn the trip

Testa Rossa's Amelie's Star Completes Comeback in Queen Of The South
Mark Smith - Sunday, 7 May 2017

Vinery Stud's stalwart Testa Rossa came agonisingly close to a Group double at Morphettville on Saturday.

Forty minutes after his 6yo son Reldas was nosed out by the Hussonet gelding Karacatis in the Group III D C McKay Stakes  (1100m), Testa Rossa struck with the Darren Weir-trained Amelie's Star in the Group II Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m).

It has been a roller-coaster ride for the connections of 5yo mare whose career began with a whimper when beating just two of the 14 starter's home in a maiden at Kembla Grange back in January 2015.

After breaking her maiden at her fourth start for her then trainer Peter Moody, Amelia's Star went on a 4-win streak culminating with a dominant performance in the Group III Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) at Rosehill in September 2015. (photo Lisa Grimm).

But then an injury saw the daughter of Testa Rossa off the scene for 18 months.

Following a first-up fourth at Morphettville on April 8, Amelie's Star finished second over 1800m at Flemington on Anzac Day.

She advances her overall record to 5 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 11 starts with earnings of $340,935.

A homebred for Patrick Hodgens, Amelie's Star is the fourth foal of the Zabeel mare Zazita, which Hodgens had bought at the 2007 Magic Millions National Broodmare sale for $130,000.

A year after foaling Amelie's Star, Zarita produced the very handy Mossman filly Honey Cara, a recent winner at Moonee Valley and Flemington.

But Zazita has had a troubled history in the past few years.

She missed to Smart Missile in 2012 then did not hold to Smart Missile and Pluck (USA) in 2013 and slipped to Husson (ARG) in 2014.

In 2016 Zazita produced a filly by German import Illo (GER) who now stands in China.

Zazita was covered by Australian Derby winner Nom Du Jeu last spring.

Have they read the qualifying conditions for MC? Winning a Doomben Cup won't pass the ballot clause.

Does that September 2015 2400m G3 win pass the ballot clause?

A Group 1 win is a Group 1 win.

I wouldn't think so - last year the cut off dates for performances to pass the first qualification clause was 1 February 2015 so you would imagine it will be 1 February 2016 for this year's edition.

The horse has no hope in a Doomben Cup anyway so they would be much better off to head to the Brisbane Cup if the long term goal is the first Tuesday in November.

Brisbane Cup makes a lot of sense if they are trying to qualify for Melb Cup.

Good effort. Not sure she was in the best part of the track at this point.

She'll keep - a good win in her this prep up there.

With her current 103 rating, roughly what weight would she be allocated in the Spring Cups?

Given her 2015 Colin Stephen Qlty win no longer counts towards passing the Cups ballot clause, DKW will need to win something in the Spring to get her re-qualified.

Personally, I'd have kept her up for the Brisbane Cup - winning or even running a place at Eagle Farm would have fully re-qualified her, thereby taking the pressure off having to win a lead up race in the Spring.

I think because of her soundness issues, they didn't want to risk her on the questionable EF surface
