we only have two types of weather in NSW...months of dry...or months of rain...the latter when Randwick carnivals are looming...
Melbourne is annoying because you have to carry a sun-hat, raincoat, ski jacket and wind-breaker just to get through one day...

.....and the winner is, Siddenee ! Melbourne has a Mediterranean climate, maybe that it is why it has more Greeks than any city other than Athens.

I think James needs to move to the country for a few years. He'll never complain about rain again.

I love the rain mate.
I love the seasons. The freshness of spring. The crispness of winter. The warmth of summer. The earthliness of autumn.
I love the rain.

so so true. it bucketed down here last night . and we needed it too. only thing is, now the undergrowth will flourish, and there will be no clearing or burning in the National Park near here, thanks to the greenies, so one has to hope like hell some idiot camper doesnt let a fire get away, or it takes a hit of lightning, because it will never be stopped if fire gets going.

Disappointed by NSW folk this evening. Twitter going off over the Sydney storms, yet nothing here on TBV. Twitter would have you believe the end of the world is nigh.

Wonderful State NSW. Has all the wonders of the world . Lost one when I left but never to be equalled is Gorgeous Sydney. The Blue Mountains and of course the Opera House that everyone said was a waste of money. The Coast from Sydney down to Sutherland is a world of it's own. Terrific climate. They hide Jujuno when the area is on show but with it's climate and aforementioned natural beauty . SYDNEY, Worlds No 1 City.

Teenager killed by lightning in SydneySunday 2 Nov 2014 9:05 a.m. A 15-year-old reportedly died after being struck by lightning on a beach north of Sydney yesterday. The boy was surfing at One Mile Beach in Port Stephens when an electrical storm blew over, reports Fairfax Media. Acting Inspector Geoff Bos told the media outlet CPR was performed on the boy before paramedics arrived at the scene, followed by a rescue helicopter. It is believed paramedics continued CPR for another hour but the boy could not be revived. Fairfax says the teenager was from the Beresfield/Thornton area and was staying in a caravan park with friends.

yesterday afternoon we had almost gale force hot winds, and a big storm went over Newie. if you were watching the races you would have seen it . the storm was south of us, but later, about 6pm, we got a bit of rain and after that it cooled down a bit. already one house lost to fire, believed deliberately lit, in the Blue Mountains.this is going to be one hell of a summer.

I've been affected by lightning strikes twice...once whilst sewing on an old industrial machine...the strike went through the ground and up the machine...gave me a good jolt...
a few years later, my nephew and I were playing chess at Bronte Beach kiosk, where we were waiting out a storm before closing...(we ran the kiosk for three Summers)...we were leaning on a metal grill when the lightning struck nearby...I only suffered a tingle but my nephew received burns to his back...
have been caught out on the golf course many times...put the clubs under the tallest tree and huddled under the smallest...

all organised...have the freezer filled with tubs of ice-cream...my essential...and frosty fruits...
tins of salmon on special this week...stocked up...love salmon salads...
might duck out early for some sushi but we usually stay in if it hits 35+...need to keep the cats cool...
my best trick on hot days is to take the hot water bottles I use for my back in Winter, fill them with ice water and pop one under my knees, the other behind my neck...(then relax and play computer or PS2 games...)...I hate fans blowing on me...and we don't have air-con...keep doors and windows open until the wind blows hot...

we usually end up rescuing birds falling out of trees on 40+ days...
I used to run the Bronte kiosk in Summer...the temperature out back in the chip-frying area, surrounded by pie-ovens and hot-dog makers, reached over 50 degrees...with no proper ventilation...if that didn't fry my brain, nothing would...

Heatwave hell as 5000 dead bats drop from trees in Casino, northern NSW
EXTREME heat has killed thousands bats in northern NSW, with wildlife carers now working around the clock to save hundreds of orphaned babies while council workers clear huge piles of flying fox carcasses. Temperatures rocketed to 44 degrees in Casino on Saturday, sparking the mass deaths of up to 5000 flying foxes, many of which simply dropped out of trees and were dead before they hit the ground. In similar scenes, more than 2000 flying foxes perished in the Richmond Valley at the weekend. There were extraordinary scenes as the bat carcasses began piling up on the ground, sparking warnings to the public not to touch the animals for fear of catching viruses or other illnesses. Mass death scene ... Bat carcasses line the street. Picture: Dee Hartin Richmond Valley Council workers have been attempting to clear the bodies around central parts of Casino but staff have been unable to reach some outlying locations. “Some areas along the riverbank are inaccessible and the stench from the rotting carcasses will be quite unbearable for some time yet,” said council manager John Walker. “People should avoid the area and not try to help living bats themselves as they could bite and scratch and some carry the lyssavirus.” Lyssavirus is similar to rabies.

OMG there were millions of them ! wave after wave swooping and diving at the trees. quite an amazing sight , as they just kept coming for maybe 15 mins non stop. dont know where their hang-out was but i bet it smelled pretty terrible. we went inside to avoid bat poo dropping on us. today its hotter than yesterday and supposed to stay like this until Monday. it was 42 in the house here yesterday.

Huge fog here this morning. Cleared now and its hot but not unbearable yet. |
we had a massive mist most of the day on the coast...at one stage you couldn't see past the breakers and it looked like smoke blowing in to shore...and that was at 1pm...
never seemed to hit the projected 35 degrees...
now at 10pm it's quite cold...had to shut the windows as the wind is triggering my asthma...I actually have a hot water bottle tucked behind my back for warmth... I love Summer...

Huge storm last night. Lots of lightning . think it must have started a fire soemwhere as its very smokey this morning and it is smoke, not haze, as you can smell it. Still hot as, but without the blast furnace wind.

Your in dangerous waters upsetting the feminist movement Fiddles. You are sure to finish up like your finger when you try to be frugal with the cheap toilet paper. I recycle the better brands. [ a free tip on how to save a dollar ]
Your a good mate Fiddles really and while I think of it , I'm heading toward Sydney in 2 weeks . Any spare beds at your place. ?

I haven't tried a cat for years Fiddles. But for Saintly's benefit , you must have a strong cardboard box. Put 2 holes in it and pull the cats tail through , the top hole .
My big error was I tried it once without the Box.
