She just had a runner at TAREE that bolted in. Led all the way for a ridiculous win.

Previous runner was GRAND COOLER,which also was first up,in Mid January at Muswellbrook.

Think it was a CL 1 race and it won by more than 6l,in track record time.

Here's a background story on her....very impressive.

Quote:

Kristen Buchanan Happy With A Couple Of Serious Horses In The Barn

 •  http://homeofracing.com.au/craig-young-racing-expert-writes/" rel="nofollow - Craig Young, Racing Expert Writes...

“I could, if I could apply myself to anything other than horses,” – Kristen Buchanan.

Unfortunately for the world of medicine Buchanan is into thoroughbreds. She may have a degree in human biology and exercise physiology but training racehorses on the Central Coast is all consuming .

“Basically it is about sport science and a pre-med degree,” said Buchanan who has 15 horses in work at Wyong and two are chasing metropolitan victories in coming days.

“I’ve been training in NSW for the last three years. prior to that I worked for West Australian trainer Neville Parnham for about eight years.

“I also had a small stable, a couple of horses in work, I was breaking and pre-training.”

Buchanan took the first of many riding lessons at the age of three. She then “harassed” the parents to get a pony.

“When I went to uni in WA I had to find work that I could fit around my studies,” Buchanan said.

That led to Buchanan entering a thoroughbred stable and riding trackwork. She still does today and has helpers to ensure the horses are worked exactly how she’d like.

Im best mates with Kristen and even since she started her stables up at Wyong ive been involved in one way or another. She has alot of good owners backing her and some very impressive horses. she places them very well. Dragon Bay has been a big handful and has always been a work in progress. Its a massive credit to her to get him to win.

Awhile back she had a very nasty fall in trackwork and had several fractures in her back, broken ankle and compound fracture in her other leg. But she still go to the stable of a morning once out of hospital in her body cast and at the races cheering her horses on. I would reccomend this stable to anyone who would want one on one attention to horses, great people skills and always welcome to go and visit your horse.

That was back in November...think they diddn't fire.

One of them was TWO BLUE,which will win races.

The Newcastle run was a ripper, ridden by Ben Vassallo.

B V has a reputation for finding trouble in his races,if you know what I mean.

Two blue has alot of ability but has alot of quirks. That rosehill race she pulled very hard during the race and pulled a shoe. Has come back pretty good too and im pretty sure will be kept to sprint trips. The form around her is super, run a really good 4th 1st up against Hidden Warrior and run an unlucky 3rd behind Genteel who won over the carnival.

Grand Cooler goes to Warwick Farm on saturday in a pretty stong 75 grade race, but she needs to be tested after her course record victory 1st up.

Shes had a very nice horse win at canterbury called Strong Gain. She did an amaizing job with this horse. Was a HK horse and had done a tendon, was over racing very sour on it. She got it back racing and was still going good last prep till he was retired. But an amaizing trainign effort

I have watched her since Two Blue caught my attention as a Dubleo.Sadly Two Blue went backwards due to its taking hold.A couple of others went OK though I never took notice of their names.Hopefully TB will live up to it's potential.Generally when she has a runner it goes well.

Being kept to sprint distances and change of jockey should improve her. Its still a learning curve for the hors. Her last 600m split from her 1st up run was nothing short of amaizing.

My W.A. racing friend says she probably would have been pre-training NEVILLE PARNHAM'S horses, ?in the quiet and serene SERPENTINE AREA of WA.

NP has plenty pre-trained.  WA's no 1 trainer.

I wish her luck.

I hope she's given up track riding.

Sounds like a lucky escape, though injuries were severe.

At TAREE today, she spoke very well, post race.

As for GRAND COOLER on SATURDAY at WF.....looks thrown to the wolves.

With the compressed weight scale and the fact it has only won a provincial and a country race, it appears to have NO CHANCE.

One of her 1st horses she had in wa got over round, held the track record at ascot for 1800. I think she will go very well with horses over ground.

Looking at her record, she's only come of age since the WYONG set-up.

She's still young and I'd say she's had to make do with average stock.

Give her some decent ones and I reckon she'll be the real deal.

Been training since 2005?....the Perth years were light. She was mainly  pre-training ?PARNHAM HORSES and doing her studies.

An intelligent woman by all accounts.

Thats the horse. She hasent had any stayers since moving to the east coast. But im sure if you want to send her one she would take it with open arms. Its not just racing a horse in that stable, you become part of the team and its very enjoyable :)Ive put friends into a few horses there and they have loved every minute of it

Been very good money early for Kristens horses Grand Cooler today. Tab fixed odds 4.60 into 2.60. Mel Brown coming from Tamworth for the 1 ride too. Should prove very hard to beat only query is 2nd up.

The way it won first up,there'll be plenty trying to destroy it early.

De Nederlanden could be the big swooper.

It ran OK.

I'd like to see her get a few decently bred ones and show us what she could do.

Well RED_HUNTER you should buy her some from Easter Yearling Sales hehe. Yeah she ran well, they ran 1.02.8 for the 1100m and she was out 3 wide. The part i liked was she kept coming after a tough run as she was entitled to weaken out of it.

Matt... What's the latest with Kristen? How's she going? A bit quiet lately? I've seen her interviewed on Sky a couple of times and she comes across pretty well. How many horses does she have in work now? Do you know what she charges as a daily rate? Her name has come up as a possible trainer for a horse I might take a share in.

My two cents, she has well and truly proven herself very capable with pretty average stock. She has picked up cast offs and the like and won Saturday races in Sydney.

If there is a harder task in racing I'd like to see it.

If you're in the market for a cheaper trainer on the smaller side then I think you can do a hell of a lot worse. I firmly believe there are very few decent trainers, let alone good ones. Even in the top 10 in Sydney. From what I've seen her do she must be capable.

Yeah she is going good with the stock she has got.Lots of very nice younger unraced horses in the stables atm. Took Lucky Liaison from bm 55 at Wellington to winning 2 sat class races and placing in the Taree and Port cups. Couldnt recommend her any higher, Has fantastic staff, rides her own work, had just got a place off course and it looks fantastic as well as having stables on course.
Her horses always look fantastic, she has great relationships with her owners. You only have to go threw the results of horses she has got from other trainers and most have been improved. She very good at placing her horses where they can win. It would be a fantastic idea to take that share in that horse and come become part of the stable.

Gee how unlucky. So close to her first ever stakes winner with Two Blue.

This woman is an outstanding trainer.

Agree she is great trainer. Just wish she would put a different jock on Two Blue. King is not a city class rider.

Very much disagree, If you knew the horse she can be very tough to ride. Paul rides her in some of her work, hasent done a thing wrong on her in any start shes had. And bluesy runs very well for him.

And yes she is a gun trainer. Was such a thrill being there today. Great bunch of owners in this horse as well. We will prob be back in 2 weeks in the 1500m listed race then freshen up for the Mona Lisa at her home track.

Anyone have horses with her?

Seems to know what she is doing, which is a good start.
Deserves more opportunities, but you could say that about hundreds of trainers.
We have too many trainers in this country
