FWIW I'm mostly a "Type" man.  My belief is that the shoulder is the most important make up to a good horse.  This being the starting point.  The extension and angle of the humerous gives rise to a larger shoulder.  In turn this then generally places the blade angle at the best position to allow the foreleg to extend to its maximum.  The most efficient gait will be the quickest plane from A to B and closest to the ground.  Any angles that are out require the leg to be raised higher therefore not as efficient.
Whilst hind quarter seems to be the requirement for sprinters, I believe you still need this shoulder for maximum efficiency.  Also, the shoulder allows "pull through" rather than push.  So is equally if not more important in my eyes.
From here the wither size and length gives rise to correct conformation and should be equal height of the rump.  Otherwise again all angles are out.  It also highlights the length and depth of the chest cavity for lung capacity.
Then the proportion of rein and barrel fall into place to give the right balance.  The hind leg also then needs to be positioned correctly again to maximise power.  Muscling and condition can distort conformation a lot.
