Basically the event around the Triple Crown races have now condensed to a 2 day carnival.
At Pimlico just like at Churchill Downs the racecard on Friday is considered "Ladies Day" with
both tracks hosting the main 3YO fillies event.

The quality at Pimlico has deteriorated that there is only one Grade 1  event and that is The Preakness Stakes. Stakemoney offered has fallen from the highs of a couple of years ago as well.

Also the state of the Pimlico Racetrack also dilapidated and if it continues to get any worse then there will come a time when it just wont be safe enough to hold this prestigious event at this track. State officials would want to keep this race in Maryland but who knows.

These are the Black Type events at Pimlico for the next 2 days.

Good luck you were right about the small field so not much there for odds.

Not sure what time the race is but today's weather is too good not to work so will catch it tonight  ... Thumbs Up

Always Dreaming was sharp out of the gate but trailed by Classic Empire.

As they turned for home Classic Empire took the lead while Always Dreaming started to fade.

The 2 week recovery period from the slop he faced in the Kentucky Derby obviously took its toll.

Might be that another fresh colt wins the Belmont, but no matter the TC is awash this year. Interesting crop of 3 year olds. None really jump out at you as great.

Just goes to show what a terrible slog it is in the mud at Churchill Downs.    And any that can win there and then go on,  are super horses.
Shows just how good some of the 2 leg winners are.
Never mind a Triple Crown.
Always Dreaming left his all in the mud at Churchill Downs.
Poor boy.
Give him a spell tho, and he will be back.

Classic Empire looks to be the best of the crop, but don't know if he will recover enough from these 2 tough races to be competitive in the Belmont Stakes. Always Dreaming never fired.

Some final thoughts on the Preakness.
The attendance for The Preakness was 140,327 and on Friday 50,339 which were highlight by stark temperature differences. Friday was hot and muggy in the low 30s while on Saturday it was brisk about 17C. Very good crowds as expected for the race meet.

The focus now turns to the last leg at Belmont Park, in New York State.

This weekend is Memorial Day, analogous to Anzac Day back in OZ. It used to be start of some important NYRA races but just like Churchill Downs and Pimlico they also have condensed the big races to be in what is a three day carnival at Belmont.

Instead on Memorial Day the New York State Breds will be on show with good stakes offered for the restricted class.

So we are 3 weeks to the Belmont Stakes and with distance now being up to the real classic dimension of 1 1/2 miles we'll definitely some attrition and maybe some additions.

This is a list of the long weekend's Graded races around the US.

As I mentioned before its not as showy as it used to be.

The better races are out on the West Coast. Several of these races have been rebranded from the defunct Hollywood Park meeting.

Couldn't find a better vid of the Preakness there seems to be just the one doing the rounds. But did come accross this of the track rider of Always Dreaming.

Would've been good to see this before the race .... odds on .... no way !

Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming is going to miss the Belmont Stakes and look towards the Summer Stakes schedule.

Japanese horse Epicharis trailed mid week and has entered isolation for his trip to US for the Belmont Stakes. He will have two stop enroute via Anchorage and Chicago.

Champion 2yo Classic Empire had a small jog at Churchill Downs and looked in order and is headed to NY.

Fields for the Belmont stakes come out today and no Cloud Computing which is unfortunate but understandable given the way connections set up his tilt at the Preakness.

... or are we .... not much interest in the Belmont stakes on here it seems. looks like a nice day and great crowd over there.

And yesterday was mentioned at Flemington that Melbourne trainer Melbourne trainer Mick Kent is part of the crowd this year.
