It would be nice to see these races on Sky, instead of trotting from some obscure place in Europe.

Agreed, I'm the first to admit that without Sky we would have no live coverage of some of the best international racing on the planet. I just think they could be a bit more judicious with the races they choose to broadcast and importantly showcase. For a start, put a presenter on that has heard of Songbird. Or Saratoga for that matter!

Oh yes !  I agree .  I think anyone who has a presenter,s job should have some bit of knowledge of international races and horses.

California Chrome bolts in the the Pacific Classic at Del Mar defeating Beholder and Dortmund.

A performance even better than the Dubai World Cup.

On the same weekend when Winx extended her streak, here in the US, 3YO filly Songbird also won her 10th straight in the GI Alabama Stakes (~2000m) at Saratoga.

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/214383/songbird-a-perfect-10-after-easy-alabama-win

Another easy win for her but really until she beats the boys as easily as Winx does I cannot see how she could get a higher world ranking.

Proof even more that Beholder, Champion mare from last season was 5 lengths behind California Chrome.

From the last World Rankings (Aug 11)

California Chrome #2
Winx #3
Werther #5
Chautauqua #11
Songbird #24

Next rankings out Sept 15

Well lets throw a can of worms into the pack of 3YOs.

Lightly raced Arrogate caused many heads to turn with his freak performance in the G1 Travers at Saratoga on Saturday when he thrashed the field by 13 1/2 lengths, winning in stakes and setting a new track record for the 1 1/4 mile event in 1:59.36 !!!

Oh boy! This exactly what we needed here in the US to set up a monumental challenge as we get closer to the Breeder's Cup Classic.

Just as a note. Although this is about Australian Racing, it deals with simulcasting of he Australian Racing Product here in the US.

I have noticed that simulcasting of Caulfield last week and Moonee Valley this week is not on the program.

In fact only Flemington is scheduled for the next month.

Looks like MRC, MVRC has put a lock on their product.

A pity. I can't see the replay of those fine races!

Another commanding win by California Chrome as he keeps on tweaking for the Breeder's Cup Classic with an easy win in the GI Awesome Again Stakes.

The big shock of the week was Flintshire getting beaten in the GI Turf Classic at Belmont Park as the 1/5on favourite. Anyone who backed him on the rain affected track was taking an enormous risk knowing that he was sent from Europe to get a way from those soft tracks. It will be interesting how the Breeder's Cup Turf shapes but and whether Found enters that race or sticks to the F&M Turf.

I thought that it was embarrassing that a horse making his sixth lifetime start, with a few wins in very small fields, crushed a track record that has existed since 1979 (and set by a really good horse, at that).

It was a souped-up day at the Spa. Like I typed above, it was embarrassing.

Great racing despite the track dimensions. Santa Anita's turf track is considerably tighter than even MV

Nearly time for the main race.

A real Winx Vs Hartnell sense about it.

Will California Chrome and Arrogate bring each other undone ?

You'd imagine California Chrome with his vast maturity will be able to with stand the pressure from the young upstart.

Keen Ice was slightly disappointing on resumption but could enjoy the drop on these two and Frosted also dishing it up to a fast pace.

2017 Road to the Triple Crown

Started in earnest this weekend with 3 races:

G3 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (formerly Santa Catalina) over 1 1/16 mile at Santa Anita Park -  Royal Mo win by 3 1/2 in lengths 1:43.48

G3 Withers Stakes over 1 1/16 mile at Aquaduct Inner Track - 1/2on favourite El Areeb 4 1/4 lengths in front in 1:44.47 on a fast track

G2 Holy Bull Stakes over 1 1/16 mile at Gulfstream Park - Curlin's son Irish War Cry (4/1) defeated last years 2YO champion Classic Empire into 3rd place

Next week's races:
G3 Sam F. Davis Stakes @ Tampa Bay 1 1/16 mile
G2 San Vicente Stakes @ Santa Anita Park 7 furlongs

Impressive and looks next to the G2 Tampa Bay Derby  (Mar 11)

G2 San Vicente Stakes @ Santa Anita Park 7 furlongs

5 starters only in a race which last year featured Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist. His trainer Doug O'Neill saddled this year's winner Iliad who won impressive by 3 1/2 lengths in a time of 1:21.62. Unfortunately this race does not carry any points towards Kentucky Derby qualification. Probable next race is the G2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita on March 11.

Next weekend:

G3 El Camino Real Derby (1 1/8 miles) @ Golden Gate Fields
G3 Southwest Stakes (1 1/16 miles) @ Oaklawn Park

Rank outsider (48/1) Zakaroff cause a major boil over on the synthetic surface winning in 1:51.34. Connections have not nominated their horse to the Triple Crown so it remains to be seen if this race has any impact for qualifying.

G3 Southwest Stakes (1 1/16 miles) @ Oaklawn Park

Undefeated One Liner (12/5) bolted in by 3 1/2 lengths in a time 1:41.85 in his first stakes victory.

Gunnevera (6/1) improved to a commanding 5 3/4 length victory in a time of 1:44.25 for a big win and now leads the 2017 Road to the Kentucky Derby point table with 64. Rival Irish War Cry (Evens) was most disappointing weakening to 7th place.

G3 Gotham Stakes (1 1/16 miles) @ Aqueduct

J Boys Echo (6/1) swept four-wide around the turn and romped home for a 3 1/2 lengths victory in a time of 1:46.34. Short odds on El Areeb faltered and finished 3rd.

Listed John Battaglia Stakes (1 1/16 miles) @ Turfway Park

The 2/1 favourite It’s Your Nickel routed his opponents by 6 1/2 lengths. No points were garnered by the connections but the colt will be entered for the G3 JACK Cincinnati Casino Spiral Stakes which does carry points on March 25.

Sorry for the late update. Traveling through Europe at the moment.

This weekend:

G2 San Felipe Stakes (1 1/16 miles) @ Santa Anita Park

Bob Baffert's trained frontliner Masterly (4/5on)  won comfortably by 6 3/4 lengths in a time of 1:42.28. Unfortunately soon after the finish line the colt suffered a condylar fracture in his left front leg and had to have surgery.

G2 Tampa Bay Derby  (1 1/16 miles) @ Tampa Bay Downs

Tapwrit (11/10) took advantage of not having to face McCracken who missed this race with a slight ankle strain won by 4 1/2 lengths in a stakes record time of 1:42.36.

Next weekend:

G2 Rebel Stakes (1 1/16 miles) @ Oaklawn Park
