What a crap day for the racing industry. Oliver back at trackwork, and now this. How can wire-taps and a money trail not be enough info to charge??
And again Nikolic sits at home smugly laughing to himself....

From the police point of view I think it is all tied into the Les Samba murder. Until they crack that, the rest mustn't stand up strong enough

Obviosly there was enough to run a sensationalist news story, but not enough to get a conviction beyond reasonable doubt.

A sensationalist news story where they happily named names without fear of being sued??? That wa more than a sensationalist news story.
The biggest story in all of this is the only thing Stewards have Nikolic on is swearing and threatening, which pales into insignificance his other actions.
Stewards know what he has done, am glad he can't ride, even if he has escaped convictions thus far.

On what grounds can they be sued? They reported a fact ie; police investigation, nothing will come of police investigation, matter closed.

What was interesting yesterday was the reporting

Herald Sun - no charges angle
The Age - Racing Victoria to investigate angle.

and of course the opposite would occur if the Hun were the original newsbreakers.

Geez Subastral. Not a fan of the rule of law, eh? Stewards are law unto themselves and when challenged, the review panel is akin to Caesar judging Caesar. All I have observed is that steward Bailey and jockey Nikolic are not BFFs. And at this stage Bailey has succeeded in snookering Nikolic's right to earn a living.

Nikolic has every right to earn a living. Thankfully not in racing.

Nickolic got what he deserved, and does not deserve to hold a jockeys license... although he is not alone in that category.

Nothing like a lynch mob to deliver justice. Lindy Chamberlain was lucky the NT didn't have the death penalty.

Victorian racing officials will continue to
investigate the Smoking Aces (Bianconi) affair
despite police saying no criminal charges will
be laid against jockey Danny Nikolic or any
other party. Purana Taskforce detectives have
completed an investigation into alleged race
fixing and money laundering linked to a number
of horse races in 2011 and 2012 but on
advice from the Office of Public Prosecutions
no charges would be laid. However, a Racing
Victoria stewards investigation into allegations
of race fixing involving the horse Smoking Aces
remains active and will continue, the governing
body said.

Well the owners of Smoking Aces didnt take long to get back on track. Pulled off a plunge today first race at Cranbourne, with fellow good guys of racing, Zahra and Smerdon, riding and training the horse.
Great to see this. Well done to them all. Lets hope Danny wasn't left out of the set-up either and Smerdon can hand an envelope to Danny.

latest update from Racenet

Police a month away from sharing Smoking Aces information

Racing Victoria's integrity unit will know in the next month whether Victoria Police will be able to pass on findings from its investigation into the Smoking Aces affair.

Media reports of police uncovering an alleged rigged race at Cranbourne in 2011 surfaced during the Victorian homicide squad's investigation into the murder of racing figure Les Samba.

Racing Victoria launched a probe into the race but that stalled because of the inability of Victorian Police to share information with the organisation of their inquiries into the matter.

Victoria Police dropped their interest in the Smoking Aces case after the Director of Public Prosecutions decided there was insufficient evidence to lay criminal charges.

However, RV has continued to investigate the case despite limited information being available. RV's manager of integrity services Dayle Brown said the Victorian Government solicitor would decide what material police could hand over to Racing Victoria.

"The Victoria Police called a meeting with myself and Terry Bailey and they said they would take all the evidence they had gathered to the Victorian Government solicitor and work out what they can give us legally from that investigation with regard to continuing under a rules of racing perspective," Brown said.

"At the moment, what we've got is some media reports, some information that the investigative panel has cobbled together but we need clear evidence from Victoria Police that will bring the investigation team to a point where they can lay charges.

"That will be done in the timeframe of about a month. Hopefully, we'll have all of the documents that we can have legally in our possession then."

Brown said RV did not currently have the evidence needed to stand down any licensed person connected with the case.
