Pony club the next stop for Perth Group I winner

Brad Waters - 22 Jan 2015

The equestrian circuit beckons the 2012 Railway Stakes winner Mr Moet after connections retired the gelding earlier this month.

Mr Moet won Perth’s biggest race first-up in a terrific training performance from Adam Durrant before going to win the Group II CB Cox Stakes two starts later.

The Cox Stakes was Mr Moet’s last win.

The son of Mosayter competed honestly without winning in Melbourne but struggled in his last two campaigns in Perth before connections ended his career after a rearward finish in the Perth Cup.

Managing owner Jim Smith told The West Australian Mr Moet simply lost the zest for racing.

"He is fit and well, but he has decided he's had enough of racing so he's retired," managing-owner Jim Smith said.

"The girl who has been riding him work for the past six months wants him for pony club and equestrian sports.

"She loves the horse and believes he has a bright future in the equestrian arena. So he won't be sitting under a tree, he'll be living an active life."

Mr Moet won 12 of his 42 starts and more than $1.6 million in stakes.

Put on a decent jock in Melbourne and it would've won for sure. Staeck slaughtered it throughout it's Melbourne preps. By the time they sacked him it was too late. Twas a great horse no doubt.
