Did anyone see Josh Cartwright's ride on Senior council in the last in Adelaide? They've backed the leader Murti for a billion and on straightening Cartwright gets himself into clear running on Senior Council. He looks inside (to see if anything is running on?), then looks to the outside and sees the cerise winding up. He snags his horse to the right (despite having clear running ahead of him at that point) and makes a B-line for the cerise horse, riding the crap out of it towards the outside fence seemingly without any concern that he is no longer riding his horse out towards the finish line and is on a collision course with the threatening swoopers.
Watch the replay. He seemed to have nothing in his head other than to barrel into the threat on the outside.

He barrels the cerise horse completely, and almost knocks Jason Holder off his mount outside the cerise. The cerise gets going and was a certainty beaten.

I looked back in the form for something to explain his apparent brain snap.

The heavily backed winner, Murti was ridden last start by J Cartwright.

I reckon if Holder had come off and died in the fall, Cartwright would have been charged with murder. Go and look at the replay.

He should get life. He almost cost Holder his.

Not sure about the ride but would not say the winner was heavily backed. $3.40 out to an SP of $4.00 with a TF of $4.00.

Forget the betting, Watch the ride.

Really quite unbelievable. I do not believe I have ever seen anything so blatant.

Don't this I've seen anything like that before. That takes the cake on what was a red letter day for strange rides.

While we're on the subject, don't want to be too hard on a claiming apprentice, but the ride on Invincible Al in the fourth at Flemington was a little ...how shall we say...tentative.

A lot of jockeys commenting on this on Jason Holder's Facebook. They are all pretty stunned by it too.

Just watched it and wow. I thought that perhaps the horse might be laying out or something but he never seemed to stop riding and urging the horse so I don't think that is it.The jockey on the outside was incredibly lucky to stay on.

SENIOR COUNCIL (J. Cartwright) – which had not raced since October 2015 underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. Shifted out acutely from approaching the 200 metres and inside the 200 metres contacted GO THE JOURNEY, which was severely hampered and taken out onto HOUSE OF WAX, which was contacted, unbalancing that gelding and resulting in J. Holder becoming unbalanced and unseated. Rider pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(a) for reckless riding. The particulars of the charge being that whilst riding SENIOR COUNCIL in Race 8 at Morphettville Parks on Saturday, 14 January 2017 he directed and rode his mount outwards in a reckless manner at an acute angle with the intention of making contact with runners to his outside and in doing so contacted GO THE JOURNEY inside the 200 metres, resulting in that horse being severely hampered and taken out onto HOUSE OF WAX, resulting in that horse becoming severely unbalanced and J. Holder becoming unbalanced and losing his seat, falling to the nearside of his mount before regaining his seat a number of strides thereafter. Stewards adjourned the matter on penalty for further consideration. However, J. Cartwright was stood down from all riding activity with immediate effect. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no visible abnormalities.

If I was jockey I would never want to ride against him again. 10 year ban surely.

Very lucky the other jockey didn't come off or he would be looking at a hell of a lot longer.

I suppose if they can find a deliberate attempt was made to take the jockey out then this is a very serious case, if not reckless 3 months, team riding , boaty, , all can be considered.,, NOT. GOOD LOOK FOR RACING!!

The further consideration was for applying a penalty. He plead guilty to the reckless riding they charged him with so that is finished with.
