My rated prices (framed to 90%)

$2.50 Crafty Cruiser
$5.70 North Lodge
$9.40 Gotta Take Care
$25  Gold Viper
$28  Jumpin Jack Cash
$40  Sayangku
$40  Streaky Fella
$51+ Others

I think this is a really interesting race.  It's only a ratings 89 handicap but I love these staying races where the form is an open book.

Crafty Cruiser does not win many races, but if he's ever going to win again in town then this is probably the race.  He is a dour stayer.  He's only ever won three races, a 2300m maiden and two races at Sandown over 3000m and 3100m.  He's had 10 starts this preparation without winning.  However he's a horse that takes racing to reach his peak and he retains his form for a long time.  CC put the writing on the wall two starts back with his third at Flemington behind Exceptionally and Streaky Fella.  Sure he was beaten 6.8 lengths, but the crucial factor to take into account is that it was a terribly biased track that day.  CC raced on the rails which was lengths slower than out wide.  Last start he dropped back to 2000m, which was too short for him, but still was only beaten 1.1 lengths by Streaky Fella.  On Saturday he drops down to 51.5kgs after the claim in this ratings 89 race and I think he's handicapped to win.  Moonee Valley is no problems for him.  He's had two attempts at the 3000m trip at the Valley for two close seconds.  They opened CC at $8.50..... very nice odds!

I think the main danger is the improving North Lodge.  He's won his last two starts over 2800m and 3000m at Sandown.  Needs to improve a little to win this, but should be able to.

Smart punters snapped up the early $21 bet about Gotta Take Care.  This jumper is a good chance in this.  His recent jumping form is excellent and I see no reason why he can't convert that into flat success.

You might wonder why I've rated Streaky Fella at only $41.  I just think he's paid the price for his good recent form with a heavy weight and I think he's a big query at the 3000m at Moonee Valley.  I also think Kuitpo Lad is a huge lay.  He's currently a $5.50 chance with bookies.  I have him at $1001!

Doosra Diamond and Jumpin Jack Cash both love MV 3000m, and are at 17s.
They'd have to be worth a thought.

Doosra Diamond has won four of these Mooney Valley 3000m affairs, but I just think he may need another run or two to reach peak fitness.  He's had 14 months off, so will take a while to get fully fit, provided he's still capable - after all he is a 10yo now.

Some distance stats that really show what a dour stayer Crafty Cruiser is.

0-2000m: 13-0,0,2  (win 0%, place 15%)
2001-2800m: 17-1,3,5  (win 6%, place 53%)
2801-3200m: 6-2,2,1 (won 33%, place 83%)

I really think Crafty Cruiser is an each way special on Saturday.  Obviously many other punters agree with me because he's been backed from $8.50 into $5.50 with TAB Sportsbet.  Still reasonable each way odds though.

By the time this race (race3) comes around, the track will have given up it's pattern of play, so unless there is something really obscure happening like a 2 foot wide strip hard up on the fence, then I would be all over the .2 - GEEJAYHAITCH @ $10 fixed is around 6 - 7 points overs in my tissue market...
The kid only has to sit quiet, steer him round the dish, stay out of trouble, offer him up before the 500m and have him in a half decent winnable position on the turn, and the horse will surely do the rest...
The horse comes here with only 53.5kg after the 3kg claim...that will feel like a feather after lugging round 58kg last start and 55kg the start before..

Geejayhaitch 1st and will add these 3 others for exotics..
* 13 - Rilelimag
* 16 - Sayangku
* 10 - Gold Viper

The 2012 Mooney Valley-Plugger Plodfest over 3000m..
they should rename it this and inject some humour into the event..
Imagine the winning trophy with Plugger Plodfest champion 2012 scribed on it sitting on the mantle piece..lol
Make a great humourous converstation piece..god knows these events surely need it.

 Gotta Take Care (currently around $12 ) on top for me in a very open race.

Been performing very well over the jumps, so fitness is no probs.
Very consistent over past 12 months ish, last 15 starts include 6 wins + 6 placings.
Only try this track + distance, won beating Crafty Cruiser by .75L in Oct last year...+ meets CC only 1 kilo worse here.

I'll also be having something a place on another who has been doing well over the jumps lately:
Viva Delspec ( at around $8 the place)...will give you a good sight.
Did win a 2500m MV race at 1st look at the track last Dec.

1st 4 Gotta Take Care
2nd 14 Viva Delspec

Be good to see how Patrick Payne's progressing as a trainer of stayers, not sure if he's got an edge yet in that department. He's on a roll at the moment.

Followed Wells all winter, went over his tapes and pedigree last night, dithered about backing at $12 and before I know it he's down to $6.  150m out I was thinking I'd dodged that, then right on the line....ouch.

Quite an odd plunge, not fashionale formlines or stable.  He certainly loved the distance.

What a fantastic sprint to the finish line.

And terrific win for Kath & Craig and the team

Good weekend so far for the Geelong region.

come on, horse was knackered at the end of a 3000m race, wouldn;t have mattered anyway. Don't forget he was wide for the first 1000m, King knew the gauge was empty.

They should also be looking at Brad Wallace's ride on Roccin Jo. A heavily backed front runner, with a front running jockey, being ridden 3 deep and near last.
