Subastral how have I attacked MP?
There is nothing personal in my posts against her or any inference of guilt?! As I said earlier, racing can be very hypocritical and inconsistent- it jumps all over some whilst being incredulous the spotlight shines on others.. |

No doubt. You'd think she'd have no weight troubles having lost half her pancreas, although corporate tucker and alco would be very tempting at times.
Seriously though, if done well it should be a great little Aussie tale. Plenty of fodder for writers.

You'd have to a churl to begrudge Michelle her "fame", extending to the movie screens. But how old is Rachel Griffiths these days ? Will need the beauty cream to play an apprentice jockey, or do they go straight to the Cup !

Gonna say.....I obviously wasn't paying attention. It is tough job to make an authentic-seeming movie like this. Can easily turn into more a comedy than a drama. |

I absolutely hate that a track rider dies (a former jock, a wife, a mother) and its gets what? A little 3cm x 1cm article in the Herald Sun.
Michelle takes a diet pill and its f**king front page news! Disgraceful. kiss the media and their click/view hunting.

How Payne landed in trouble with stewardsBrad Waters - 29 Jun 2017 Ongoing problems stemming from a life-threatening fall led Michelle Payne to a failed drug test at Swan Hill last month. Payne suffered severe injuries, including a split pancreas, in the fall at Mildura in May last year, requiring a pancreatic bypass, which was the source of her trouble. The 31-year-old's barrister Michael Rivett told stewards the major surgery Payne underwent has caused "poor satiation after eating and a feeling of hunger because her receptors aren't firing in the normal way." Payne's doctor prescribed Phentermine, an appetite suppressant, as the latest attempt to help Payne with her "gastro-intestinal symptoms". Payne had been taking the substance for "one or two months" but not usually when riding in races, admitting in an interview with stewards she knew it was a banned substance. The jockey and stewards agreed Payne's major mistake was failing to use the provision in the Australian Rules of Racing to apply for an exemption, which could allow stewards to give her permission to ride while using the drug. Payne was tested at Swan Hill on June 11 but did not advise stewards via a form that she had taken Phentermine on the Thursday before her rides. "I gave the (urine) sample straight away, filled out the form and didn't give it another thought," Payne said of the events at Swan Hill that led to her positive test. The failure to cover all bases led to Payne making worldwide headlines when Racing Victoria publicised the fact she had been stood down from riding since June 23. Why it took RV to five days to make that fact public is another matter but Payne admitted her negligence in failing to ask the enough questions to ensure she was doing everything right. "It's something I regret, being here today," Payne told stewards. "I should have sought the information. "I could have handed it better. "I'm embarrassed and apologise for that. It was my responsibility." Rivett suggested stewards restricted Payne's period out of the saddle to the time she had already served but the panel, led by deputy chief steward Robert Cram, was never going to let her serve a week's penalty. Cram and fellow stewards Dion Villella and Brett Wright stayed within the accepted norms for similar cases, giving Payne a four-week ban after taking into account her guilty plea, remorse and her medical circumstances. "You didn't comply with a fundamental obligation to seek advice before taking the substance," Cram told Payne in summing up. "Just following RV Integrity's example which had far greater repercussions sir. I note that no RV officials have been stood down for their giant cockup. Sorry to bring racing into disrepute sir but you blokes lead that race by the length of the straight." (3BM] "You knew it was a banned substance and you failed to apply for an exemption." Payne's suspension only applies to riding horses, meaning she can continue to keep training her team. Payne said she would consult with her doctors before determining her treatment regime, which could include a switch to another medicine. Payne accepted the penalty. https://www.racenet.com.au/news/135373/How-Payne-landed-in-trouble-with-stewards |

Not quite half a page MK:
THE Bendigo racing community is in mourning after former jockey Donna Philpot died in a track accident on Tuesday morning. Philpot, 48, was riding in a jump-out when she fell from her mount. Police say it is believed another horse fell on top of her. Philpot was treated by paramedics on course but was unable to be saved. The horse she was riding was euthanised by a veterinarian as a result of the injuries it suffered. |

Well I stand corrected on that. It doesn't change the disparity of coverage in the media. Some news running with this as one of their top stories.

Suspension gets Michelle Payne sorted outMichelle Payne's one-month suspension may have been a blessing in disguise with the jockey revealing she has now taken care of ongoing medical issues. The Melbourne Cup-winning jockey was suspended last month after a test at Swan Hill on June 11 showed the presence of Phentermine, an appetite suppressant, in her system. The suspension prompted Payne to seek further advice over problems associated with her fall at Mildura in May last year that led to her losing part of her pancreas. Payne said she went to see her surgeon who found where he attached the pancreas to the stomach had sealed over with scar tissue. "I'm now on enzyme tablets which is what the pancreas produces to get the nutrients out of the food," Payne told RSN927. "I'm feeling so much better and looking back I should have gone to him initially. "I had a follow-up with him a month after the injury and everything was fine but what eventually happened was the scar tissue started growing across and I had no idea that could possibly happen. "Imagine you are not getting the nutrients out of the food you are eating and you are working hard. It's pretty tough, especially as a jockey because you don't eat much as it is. "They can't go in and remove the scar tissue so I'll be on the tablets for the rest of my life." Payne returns to racing at Flemington on Saturday for two rides - Invincible Al, a winning ride at Flemington on June 10, in the Flemington Event Staff Handicap and Vainglorious in the Domain Plate. She hasn't ridden since partnering Kaspersky in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 20. Payne and her brother-in-law Kerrin McEvoy depart for England on August 8 to ride at the Shergar Cup meeting at Ascot on August 12. She will also get the opportunity to partner Kaspersky in a Group Two race at Newbury on August 19. Kaspersky is Melbourne-bound for the spring carnival with dual licence-holder Payne taking over as trainer from Newmarket-based ex-pat Australian Jane Chapple-Hyam. "Hopefully he'll be on the first shipment out here with the spring horses," Payne said. "We can and set him for the Toorak Handicap and then the Cantala Stakes or maybe just the Cantala depending on how he travels out." https://www.racingandsports.com.au/en/racing/suspension-gets-michelle-payne-sorted-out-story-412659 |

Bro said before that race that IA needs early pace or he doesn't settle. Didn't get that last time and they came home in under 34s. Tempo might be slightly better over 1100m but imo front runners could control this event as well. Someone tipped her other mount as a good ew chance on GetOn. Doubt either can win.

Michelle in the news again.........
Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne has stormed out of a media conference to promote the Dubai Duty Free Cup to be staged at Ascot in England on Saturday. The Racing Posthave reported the jockey swore at an Ascot official after she was asked to stay at the event longer, having complained of feeling unwell. Payne was flown to England to compete in a series between a team of women jockeys against a men's team, and as part of the promotion a press conference featuring the Australian jockey was organised. Ascot organisers reportedly declined to comment. Earlier Payne fulfilled part of her obligations by posing for photos with other riders and gave some interviews before departing. Since her successful ride on Prince of Penzance making her the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup life has not been easy. In May 2016 she suffered a near-career ending fall at Mildura after the horse she was riding collapsed and was stood on by a rival horse in the race. The former Ballarat schoolgirl suffered a torn pancreas and remained out of racing for some months. On the cusp of last year's Melbourne Cup it was made clear to Payne that if Prince Of Penzance was to make last year's Melbourne Cup she would not be aboard him. Some time after, Payne and Australia's most successful horse trainer Darren Weir parted company with Weir saying "there's no 'I' in team". Payne, in June, was suspended for riding for a month after pleading guilty to taking an appetite suppressant, Phentermine. |
