Somehow I can't see any racing in southern queensland this weekend.  I think only the sunshine coast all weather track has any hope.  Would it be too hard to race the magic millions there as it is a big meeting for Queensland.  Better run than another dead meeting.  Although how any horses will travel in these conditions is beyond me.

All our thoughts are with Queensland.

Forecast rain to stop tomorrow so with some drying days they may be a glimer of a chance either Saturday or Sunday.

For a start you can't have a field of 16 on the cushion track.

Would horses stabled in brisbane etc find it very hard to get to the goldy over next few days?

True will have to see but all roads south still open and I'm guessin brissy horses may be put on the road early and head down tomorrow just in case.

Wow - very interesting this morning, Chris Waller is saying he really hopes Ingham Magic gets a run because he prefers her to Fast and Sexy.

I would have won a bundle if Wonderful You got up in the McLachlan on Boxing Day. I still can't believe it was only beaten a short neck after being a thousand lengths off them and basically running in another race in the straight.

If Military Grace is a chance then this bloke must be a big chance.

He is by the right sire, handles the wet and has a great finish. He just needs to draw ok and get a bit of luck along the way as the pace is always on in this race.

He could do a Phelan Ready.
Sunline...simply supreme

Agree Sunline I'm a huge fan of that horse. Sun is out today thankfully so should bring some needed respite up here.

i was keen on backing the sydney horses leading into this, at least they have had good tracks to get fit on over the last month or so.

but i dont even think they will get up there.

not sure if snippets of glory is up there, but if he is i think he is very good odds

he has the right trainer, jockey, good enough form and the right breeding.

but you have to be kidding yourself if you can bet on this race with confidence. a heavy 10 is never a good thing, with horses that have never seen something like this, on a day were the crowds will be big and boistorous. you dont even know if they have spent the last couple of weeks in their stables as they cant get onto the track to train.

total guesswork.

Gold Coast currently unsafe for racing

2011-01-12T01:42:46+11:00Today at 12:42pm
By Glenn Davis

BRISBANE, Jan 12 AAP - Stewards have declared the Gold Coast track currently unsafe for racing, putting the $4.3 million Magic Millions carnival on Saturday in grave doubt.

Racing Queensland steward Daniel Aurich walked the rain-soaked track following Wednesday's feature race barrier draws.

Magic Millions Classic favourite Karuta Queen drew awkwardly in barrier 10 for the $2 million 1200-metre two-year-old feature while second elect Pepper Jet drew gate four.

Aurich said two sections of the track posed serious concerns for the meeting to proceed.

"At the moment the section from the winning post to the 400 metres is unsafe for racing," Aurich said.

"But if it stays fine as it is today then the track should improve considerably.

"There's another section from the 800 metres to the 1600 metres which is also unsafe for racing."

Aurich feared the meeting could drop away if horses stranded by floodwaters can't make it to the Gold Coast.

"The roads are cut at Warwick and Grafton," he said.

"There's a few Sydney horses stranded at Grafton because of floods and it doesn't look like they'll get here."

Course manager Steve Andrews remains optimistic the meeting will proceed on Saturday although contingency plans are in place to hold it on Sunday if necessary.

Aurich said the track could recover to allow the meeting to go ahead provided no further rain fell.

"It's in the lap of the gods," he said.

"If the current fine weather stays with us the meeting could go ahead but any rain will put the meeting in serious jeopardy.

"Even if we do race and there's fine weather right through to Saturday the track will be heavy."

Stewards will make a further track inspection every day to race day and will make an early decision if the rain returns.

"We'll inspect the track again tomorrow and on Friday and if it stays fine we probably won't make a final decision whether the meeting goes ahead until Saturday morning," Aurich said.

"However, if we get any rain we may be in a position to make a decision earlier and then go to Plan B."

Final Rankings.

1. Wonderful You. He gets abck a bit too far but if he jumps with them here he will be the hardest finisher and come over the top of them.

2. Pepper Jet. His two wins have been top class and he only has to stretch the form to the 1200m and he is a chance. Will look the winner at some stage in the straight.

3. Five O'Clock. Top run last time giving Pepper Jet 3 kilos and dropping back in distance. Drawn well, has a cool jockey (means he is not flustered having to make decisions) on board, and has good wet track form (although I think he is better on top of the ground). Top show.

Add ins for the trifecta. Double Impact. Hope the Toowoomba horses all go well tomorrow and he can give a show. Snippets Glory has that good run behind Smart Missile and I think that is exceptionally good 2yo form, also bred to be a swimmer. Karuta Queen and Military Grace are hopes but can not back them to win and Ingham Magic is the best of the others.

I just think Nocturnal that Karuta Queen has had good runs out in front and she has been given every hope in her runs and I am not convinced she will get that tomorrow as there is plenty of speed in the race and I think having drawn better that the ones I have infront of the two favs are better chances.

I also feel that Snippets Of Glory showed up the form of Schiffer a little as he had to give Fast And Sexy 2.5 kilos and only just missed and he will take great benefit from the run where as Schiffer had a hard run behind Karuta Queen at Wyong into her win and she has drawn awkward as well.

At the $21 and $17 respectively I feel that Five O'Clock and Snippets Of Glory are better value than the two favs and Schiffer.

But as I said the two favs if they get the right runs can win, they just will not be carrying any of my money except in the trifectas.

God knows how one could waste there money betting on this field, especially on a heavy 10!

All I know is that there is no way in hell I could back the fave at $3!!! Heavy track? 1200m?
