More drama, the AEC is recounting postal votes after odd counts in 2 booths where Greens did unusually well but Phelps preference flow was well below normal. Labor thinks incorrect data entry problems may have occurred.

BREAKING: After Bellevue recount Phelps extends her lead by 281 votes. @drkerrynphelps gained 126 votes and @DaveSharma lost 155. Phelps’ lead is approx 1165. Looks like it could be enough to offset the rest of the postals @SkyNewsAust

@Kieran_Gilbert

I’m told @kailamurnain and 10 ALP scrutineers have showed up at the AEC scrutineer centre. I don’t think it’s to boost their 11.5% primary #phelps #WentworthByElection

Labor are running dead as the Libs did in the 5 recent citizenship by-elections which were the other way around, but nobody agreed to not support an Independent so Labor and Greens preference Phelps while Phelps preferences Libs. This pushes Phelps past Labor, who run 3rd and then they all push Phelps past Liberals. Had Phelps preferenced Labor she would likely have finished 3rd and Libs would win.

In short: the Labor Party made a conscious and calculated decision to run slow and thus third, not second as they well might have had they campaigned seriously, to ensure a Phelps victory.
LOL ... Labor was going to run second, how?

Yes, yes, yes, we know what happened SC, it was a shameful display by the ALP, and if you care to know just how far it went ... read on ...

She was GIVEN the ALP's own Campaign Director, Darrin Barnett - Julia Gillard's former Press Secretary no less, a fellow of the ALP/Greens think tank The McKell Institute, who had only just come back from Tasmania, where he had won the Braddon by-election for Labor!
She was also given all of the GetUp social media support, and who knows how much "Renewables Money" from Alex Turnbull and the family (you know - the SUBSIDIES that are paid out from YOUR TAXES, and are making the rich!) - she also got the "LIKE" from Malcolm on twitter, whilst his "pretend" endorsed candidate, never got an endorsement - because ScoMo refused the terms that went with that - he was happy to "help" in writing, provided he could crucify Dutton at the same time - ScoMo said no, and good on him!

As for the poor bastard from the actual Labor party - they gave him NOTHING! ... he still to run a campaign out of his own pocket though.

So yes, you could say they ran dead, but that's what I said when I was trialling for the Olympics ... "oh, I think I'll just run dead" ... and what do you know - SUCCESS!!!LOLLOLLOL

I do agree with CNNPT, that this was no more than a protest vote in a Green electorate.

Since Malcolm took the seat in 2004, it has gradually ceased to be a "Conservative" seat ... because they KNOW that Malcolm is NOT A CONSERVATIVE. Just like Phelps, he's a Greenie who wants lower Corporate Tax Rates. The fact that Malcolm held his majority 2 years ago, when he was in the process of losing 14 seats, makes that plain, even to the dummies - so this was clearly a localised result - just like ALL of the by election results have been. (except the ABC commentators will try to make something of this that it is not.).

Wentworth is the most NON representative seat in the country - it is a basket case of people living in a bubble - how do you think the immigration and asylum issues impact them - they don't care so long as they get their quota of Pacific Islander players for the Roosters and the Warratahs ... and the odd French Au Pair is also happily received on the low down. Nobody there is losing any sleep about power prices either. Just a bunch of arrogant, overpaid, virtue signalling elitists, living in their harbourside Mansions ... isn't that what we are told by the "battlers" of the ALP?Wink

So they got Malcolm the Lesbian ... which is even better than Straight Malcolm!LOL

Whatever the outcome was going to be, once it was done and dusted, we were always going to have an interesting 6 months ahead of us ...Big smile

ScoMo needs to Go Hard or Go Home on a number of issues, and run as a true Conservative. People are not concerned about "instability"- the fact is that they sacked a mercenary who was further left than the opposition leader, who had been meeting with the UN, posturing to forfeit our sovereignty and $billions of our cash, ff$.

Now that Malcolm's old seat is gone (is it?), ScoMo really has nothing to lose and all to gain (as does the country!) and he needs to explain that precisely, and shut down the "why was the PM sacked" crap from the policy vacuum on the left.

Then, he needs some simple messaging that will destroy Bullgelati Bill.

It's pretty simple stuff really.

The ALP/Greens offer;

* Wealth destruction through Property and Super Taxes.

* Open Borders - they will hand control of our economy and borders to the UN.

* Socialism - more government, more control and more spending.

ScoMo can beat this friendless cup cake, a bit of pressure any the Union Puppet will go to pieces and fcuk up like he did last time ... he just needs to put some faith in his trusty lump of coal.

If not, we are fcuked ... because unlike every other time the ALP gets their hands in the Cookie Jar, this time it's empty, and there's nothing to piss up against the wall like a drunken sailor ... in fact there's a Bill for half a trillion dollars in it ... what will it be after they kill the economy and spend money that isn't there? ... and I bet all the public servants and bureaucrats will be pissed off if they don't get their ray rises on time!Dead

Did you see Labor's Tim Murray's speech after the winner was announced? Absolutely jubilant in defeat and when he mentioned Kerryn Phelps name the room erupted in applause and cheering.

It was a better blindside than when they got rid of Matt Rogers on Australian Survivor with an immunity idol in his pocket. LOL

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY celebrates a loss like Labor celebrates a loss!BeerHandshakeLOL

Bullgelati Bill is STILL on his "Defeat from the Jaws of Victory Tour" celebrations as we speak - so important in fact, that he couldn't break from it this month to visit Wentworth AT ALL, EVER, NOT ONCE!!! ... that was probably what delivered the ultimate margin to Phelps!LOL

Can they hide him forever???Cry

This is just arrant nonsense.
It’s the biggest swing against a government in a by election in history.

I’m not suggesting this will be replicated across the nation.
Just refuting the ridiculous framing of the event as a bad one for ALP or Greens.
Does anyone for a second think both ALP & Greens weren’t celebrating last night?

If it was a swing against the incumbent, why does the winner have exactly the same policy set? ... it is literally status quo when you analyse it, and the anticipated 55/45 result was not even close.

Bad result for ALL of the major parties, but really, just a by-election, in an extremely unrepresentative electorate, and nothing really to be learned from it that we didn't know ... primarily, that the Socialists are the same the world over - they will stoop to any depths in an attempt to gain power - it will come back to bite them.Wink

When you have Labor leaders still crying because Indonesia law had 2 upper level Heroine runners executed it poses questions.
Add to that the History of Labor's Deputy Leader , Married to a convicted Drug runner ( Got 9 years ).       No wonder they have earned ,all of those descriptions Doc put forward.   ( Can you imagine the embarrassment should Tanya ever become Prime Minister )

Even Scomo said it was a vote against the liberals not the local candidate.thats a swing, not an anomaly.
They don’t have exactly the same policy set, Offshore detainees, renewables for a start.

As I said before, ScoMo needs to stop straddling the barbed wire fence, or it will all end in tears for him!

He's still trying to cajole Malcolm into ceasing and desisting from his clear objective of destroying the party - I think he just needs to see what everyone else now sees, take the vindictive prick head on, and call him out for what he is - an ALP stooge - just ask Richo.

Ok, Malcolm may have "said" he is in favour of offshore detainment - but he is a mercenary, and that IS a vote winner - and yet he and Julie Bishop were covertly helping the United Nations draft it's Global Compacts on Refugees and Migration ... which Peter Dutton duly stated we would not adopt "in its current form" ... what do you make of all of that?

... and in which way does do Phelps and Malcolms positions on renewables conflict? ... maybe you could ask Alex.

If you go back and read her statement of "what I stand for", and think about the REAL Malcolm, now that the facade has been torn down, and tell me that he hasn't always been Greener than Kermit, and almost exactly like her, and was ALWAYS helping the ALP to get her elected.

Why do you think he originally endorsed Dave Sharma, when they had a short list of women ... he didn't want to take any chances that a better qualified woman would upset the apple cart!

...and what about Sharma? ... I found it interesting that he was universally acknowledged as an exceptional individual, an extraordinarily qualified former diplomat, etc, etc ... until they put him in front of a camera, and personally, I thought he was a nice guy, but exceptionally underwhelming ... in fact, after seeing a few images of him, I couldn't think of him without seeing the image of Fredo from The Godfather!!! ... right?

Image result for Fredo CorleoneImage result for dave sharma website

Ok, not that there needs to be a direct "benefit" for doing everything you understand, but how about simply fostering goodwill with the citizens and administration of Israel, confirming and consolidating our long standing bilateral relationship with the only democratic government in the Middle East. As soon as possible.

Why do you think Trump has agreed to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem?

Why are you opposed to it so vehemently?

So tell us Whale, what do think about the two state solution, where one of them is a lawless group of Radical Terrorists run by an unelected despot, whose only agenda is genocide, who are supported by the ALP/Greens, because they don't want to upset the Muslims in Western Sydney ALP seats, and the other is a modern democracy - going well? Who do you support? ... and do ask CNNPT to explain why.

Huh?
Wtf!
How doesALP/Greens views have anything to do with the legitimacy of the Palestinians claims?

You are the king of conflating unrelated topics.

You do realise the Jewish settlement of disputed territories is condemned by most neutral observers worldwide?

agree with the 2 state solution even though Israel wants a 1 state solution.
they have every right to be aggrieved since their land was stolen and they were displaced, just wish they would leave their grievances in that part of the world.

Dave Sharma appeared to be a pretty good guy, both personally, intellectually and career achievemet.

But that aside, I'm somewhat confused (no patronizing comments please), and would appreciate if someone could end such a state of mind.

So answers in relation to (a) just when and by whom was the Israeli homeland stolen, and (b) what prior claim did Israelis have to said "homeland"?

Thanks in anticipation.
