World record holder Kerryn Manning has today lodged an appeal against a six week driving suspension imposed by Harness Racing Victoria stewards at an inquiry last Friday afternoon.

Stewards charged the female trailblazer with failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible finishing position aboard Fox Street at Charlton on May 26.

Fox Street finished eighth as a $2.60 favourite in the Winchester Arms Merv Dillon Tribute after being restrained at the start from gate four.

Manning has been granted a stay of proceedings with her appeal to be heard by the Independent Appeals Panel on Thursday, June 26.

Well you can make your own mind up here but even Kerryn herself after viewing the footage must have felt she could have done more.Had Fox Street Last until into the straight where she pulled to the extreme outside of the track. Was finishing on and to me should have at least placed.

Manning creates history aboard Arden Rooney

Australia’s first lady of the trots has done it again.

Kerryn Manning today became the first woman driver to win a New Zealand Trotting Cup with an all-the-way victory aboard reigning Hunter Cup champion Arden Rooney.

In winning Manning also became the first trainer to win the race that stops a nation in the land of the long white cloud.

Manning drove the perfect race aboard the Merv Butterworth-owned star at Addington in front of an enormous crowd, the Great Western pacer outgunning the might of Mark Purdon’s stable – who had won nearly everything else on the day – and the best Australasia had to throw at her over the two-mile journey.

Arden Rooney stepped perfectly from behind the tapes to find the lead early and was never troubled in the run, holding off the race favourite Smolda in second and Mossdale Connor in third at the finish.

Manning, last year’s HRV Gordon Rothacker Medal recipient, was the first person ever to win 300 races in a single season in Australia or NZ and the first woman to drive a winner in both the Southern and Northern Hemispheres.

Wow, a seven year old thread, the search function must be working today. That trot was by leading off a snails pace, the second horse galloped early and was totally unlucky to lose.

Gallop at the start of a standing start race and no way can you be considered unlucky.

max & others, you have to use the advanced function, & change 'message body' to 'topic subject'
I haven't tried the simple one, it probably works if you change the dot from 'show posts' to 'show topics' Smile

If it isn't "unlucky" then what is it ? I guess it is part of what is being tested in a race, the ability to jump cleanly. But if a horse does normally go away cleanly (no idea if that applies here) it is unlucky if it does not  on the big day.

I would consider that galloping at the start of a SS race (unless interfered with) is similar to a fall in a jumping race, in both cases regardless of whether it is an abnormal event.
