Parramatta star Jarryd Hayne had his NRL grand final hopes thrown into jeopardy just moments into Friday night's 22-12 preliminary final victory over the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium.

The Dally M medallist was placed on report and conceded a shot at an eight-point try in the third minute for a dangerous contact charge after flooring Bulldogs opening try scorer Bryson Goodwin.

Hayne's possible suspension would deliver the most devastating of blows to the Eels, whose impressive record of ten wins from their last 11 matches, has been ignited by the fullback's spectacular form.

Hayne came flying across the in-goal, knees first with his feet tucked up behind him, as he desperately tried to stop winger Goodwin from inflicting the psychological blow of getting first points on the scoreboard.

Goodwin was left groggy after feeling the full force of Hayne's knees on the back of his head and laid face down in the turf while Hazem El Masri unsuccessfully attempted the sideline conversion but nailed the penalty from in front.

Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten was knocked out in the first minute by an accidental knee from Eels captain Nathan Cayless, forcing a major reshuffle to the Dogs backline.

Retiring Bulldogs hero El Masri slotted into fullback and set up the Belmore club's first try.

"El Magic" kicked a beautifully weighted grubber to his left wing which Goodwin dived on and grounded with precision timing.

Hayne appeared to be bewildered by referee Tony Archer's decision and was heard, through the match telecast, protesting that he had his feet back.

The Eels hero now faces an anxious wait to learn what grading his impending charge will attract.

Hayne will likely escape suspension if the offence is deemed only a grade one, as he has no carry over points at the judiciary.

they set the standard last year with Cameron Smith being rubbed out for his grapple tackle, the same should apply for Jarryd, a dangerous tackle and plainly careless.....1 week suspension minimum

Like everone else (except the mutant Mexican supporters) I'm hoping for the best yet fearing the worst with Hayne..Plenty of pressure on the review committee/ judiciary who now have the power to decide whether the GF is a potential classic or a forgettable whitewash..

A decision on whether he has a case to answer (review committee) is made in around half an hour I think, Tommo..

11.00am match Review Committee Meeting.

Hayne does not deserve to miss a GF for that challenge.

IanB,

Smith was outed because he had carry over penalties that extended his weeks. The actual grading by Committee without any penalties would not have been enough for him to miss GF.

Parramatta can win without him! But like most we want to see the best lineup.

Fingers crossed..GL Jarryd.Cry

Possibly true and realistically they would probably miss a Hindmarsh or a Moi Moi more but take Hayne out and I just wonder how they would react mentally..The bulk of their attack still comes through Mortimer and Robson but take Hayne out and you take out the now famous Parra unpredictability and they revert to structure rather than ad-lib..You won't beat the Storm with structure and predictability..

Hopefully the various committees will do the right thing by the home club..Wink

hayne is safe. he doesnt play for melbourne.

wont matter. storm will smash them in the forwards. counting Blair they have 6 forwards in their team and will belt the Eels cockiness out of them in the first 30mins. just like they did last night to the naive Broncos.

The NRL match review panel has charged Parramatta superstar Jarryd Hayne with grade one dangerous contact following his knees-first contact with Bulldogs winger Bryson Goodwin in Friday night's preliminary final.

The charge means Hayne will play in next Sunday's grand final against Melbourne Storm, if he takes an early guilty plea.

The grade one charge carries a 100-point base penalty, which is boosted to 120 points as a result of a prior offence relating from a dangerous throw against Brisbane last year. But a 25 per cent discount for an early guilty plea reduces the penalty to below the 100-point barrier at which a one week suspension kicks in.

Hayne was put on report early in Parramatta's 22-12 victory over the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium after making contact with Goodwin's head with his knees as the Bulldogs winger scored the first try of the match, diving on a grubber kick from Hazem El Masri.

Parramatta hooker Chris Keating will also be available to play in the grand final after also receiving a grade one charge for his chicken-wing tackle on Bulldogs prop Ben Hannant.

Great result for the spectacle but dreadful result for credibility..If that's a grade 1 I'd hate to be on the receiving end of a grade 3..

Anyway, the Eels won't be playing it in the forwards (Cayliss out too) and that'll put way too much constant pressure on the wide work..

Storm by plenty..

Skipper,

Cayless In/out won't change game plan. Moi Moi has been the driving force, mannah in starting lineup goes straight & hard.

He didn't do much in the First Half and looking at the 'weak as' tackle attempts in his nice run in the Second Half I think he was capitalising on some hot and tired opposition Forwards not going the distance.
Don't know whether its my imagination or fading memory but I don't think he looks as fast/sharp as he did last year...early days though.
I was generally disappointed by the poor skills I saw in a number of NRL games last weekend.
Origin level players not anticipating the reception of a possible inside pass being one incident.

When he is on song he is great.

Trouble is he has some shockers and therefore is a bit of a worry for his team.

he has lacked confidence but for me that catch at full speed in the third state of origin and then the pass to morris, which morris dropped, but it was the turning point of his season for him. he switched on that night and has that aura about him again.

i was confident this year that parra would struggle at the start, they have talent but do not get wins from grinding and controlling the game, like a st george do. they get there wins throwing the play book out and being unpredictable and playing on energy. hard to do that over a year but easy when you have your backs to the wall and the finish line is in sight

Penrith are a hard team to beat, especially at home.
For Parra to come back from 22-0 and win off an inspired Jarrod Hayne display was very impressive.
But his personal display will be remembered for a long time.
Parr just click into another gear when he clicks.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left

Quote from Warren Ryan's column this morning

"Much has been said about the Hayne Train, which  admittedly is quite a spectacle in top gear. Unfortunately for NSW and Parramatta, it's been parked at the station for most of the year."

very true imo
