Don't usually buy the Newspaper but did today. Hird still has a bit of grief to go through but that's better now.

He's left Essendon pretty much as he found it when he stepped in to help. And probably never intended to stay that long but the stunt pulled on them all made him have to stay and fight for the players - and he did as a champion does.

There's a bit to read on the wrap up, now he can get on with his work ... speaking of which .... Wink

He left Essendon pretty much as he found it? Are you all there?

Your club is the laughing stock of the sporting world. You have paid coaches more money to NOT coach than most clubs pay their coaches TO coach. The club has destroyed the game for its many supporters and absolutely gutted a playing group duped into this disgusting supplements regime- who still don't know what was injected into them.

James claimed yesterday he's always been for the players. Give me a spell. He was always in this for himself and himself only and was prepared to take down anyone that he felt could take the fall instead of himself including a lifelong mate in David Evans. Every person involved in a position of responsibility at that club was sacked or pressured to resign except one guy who instead of any punishment was not only paid in full during his AFL suspension but had his contract extended!

He spewed out crap constantly over the past few years about the truth and how that would leave them in a good place and exonerate them all. Then he spends of a fortune of the clubs and his own money on stopping that truth getting out.

Then he attempts to sue the club insurer to cover his own personal costs!

The attempt to remove him late last year was met with threats of wrongful a dismissal cases, and he didn't walk now unless a payout was guaranteed. Yeah Hirdy loves this club!

Those tears yesterday were for himself, no one else.

"He's left Essendon pretty much as he found it".

You've been hibernating for how many years? History won't be kind to him for this part of his life, which is a shame really. A bit of humility in the face of obvious bad judgement might have changed many things.

Don't have the time to follow football anymore and Essendon wasn't my primary Club anyway. Though did admire the talent in the way Hird played and Matthew lloyd as well so would watch their games.

A dear old friend who is in her 80's now pretty much lives to watch Essendon and l see the club through her eyes when we catch up for a chat. She's still sharp as a tack, no-one's fool (and has always been on Hirds' side) So l still keep tabs on that club's progress for her sake.

When Hird was asked to step in (he had other things to do) that Club was pretty much in the same predicament as it is now.

 - btw the journalism on this has been extremely woeful - l'd get better material Wink

Time to brush up on the facts then Flash. It's a matter of public record that Hird was a major player in the Dank disgrace which has decimated Essendon when it looked to be building a promising future, demoralised players and fans, and brought the game into disrepute.

Well if you look at it like that, it's what you'll always think l guess.

Was out Geelong way last week and noticed Dank was all over the front page of the Advertiser re him and Geelong - for exactly one day.

That's the differance, Essendon were hounded with little to no evidence because ? etc ad nauseum

Hird stayed and defended when others wouldn't or couldn't - definition of a champion.

The players reactions when he left says it all about what he did for them, that's never been seen when any other coach has left a Club.

"what he did for them" was encourage them to be injected with substances they had no idea about...

Crash, you are blinkered on this...have you followed it at all?

funny how players like Heppell were once non-stop live-wires...now he averages about ten touches less every game...

 no drugs, no action...

Well juno yes, guess l may be blinkered somewhat these days re as per my motivations, as have said and am happy to be.

And did follow it early on, curious from a Chemistry point of view (my chosen profession and passion in a distant past) Read the original so called evidence to see what was new these days/ those days - that ended up not being worth the paper it was written on.

You can read a lot into how players play, you're a proper sportsperson and more astute than most. l think in this case how could one judge any performance though, even Hird's given all that went on.

The only thing which saved their bacon was ASADA's lack of powers to make people testify. For those who think justice hasn't been properly served as far as the main perpetrators go (I exclude the players from that) it's a great pity that Dank hasn't backed up his numerous threats of court action. People, including the compounding chemist and importer of the goods, Essendon officials, Dank, Hird and others would be subpoenaed to give evidence under oath and phone and other records would be forensically examined. My guess is we'll never know what happened to the mysterious club records of injections - unless of course a player sues Essendon sometime down the track.

Players in top country teams in the eighties who had staff who came from the then VFL had the players on the juice.

I did wonder why some of my team mates were always up for the battle no matter how I felt, tired, sick etc.

Some of the Dons in the eighties liked the juice.

So don't kid yourself about anyone who overseas a drug experiment on players in 2012.

Brains Flash, really?

"only Stephen Danks knew what was injected into the players"

convicted himself with that one statement, where was his duty of care?

"I can't believe Danks did anything wrong, why would he dope the players"

My what a logical, well thought out defence, wouldn't stand up in kindergarten much less a proper tribunal.

Your hero worship is embarrassing Flash, grow up.

The same attitude that had devout catholics defending paedo priests Ouch

Think the simple point's been missed again.

Essendon were targeted exclusively and basically double-crossed while other Clubs operating in a similar manner and worse were not scrutinized in a similar way and still aren't today.

As for being a mug about it let's just say injections need to be given by qualified nurses as does the upkeep of medical records whether existent or no longer so ... Wink  and let's just say the AFL are in a lot more trouble than Essendon despite what they've been through (ref Ivanhoe medical clinic saga)

Not that l care other than that have always thought of Hird as having a touch of class both on and off the field. And so it was good to hear what he actually thinks rather than what other people say he thinks - he did not disappoint Smile

Australian Football Anti-Doping Code

WARNING By this Code the AFL prohibits the classes of substances and methods which are prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Code Prohibited List.

This Code also sets out various restrictions and requirements that apply in relation to the use and administration of certain substances and methods that are not prohibited under the WADA Anti-Doping Code Prohibited List.

Substances are prohibited if they fall into the prohibited classes identified in this Code. The substances described in each prohibited class are examples only. Substances which are not included as examples are prohibited if they fall within a prohibited class.

It is the responsibility of each person to whom this Code applies to ensure that he or she does not Use or Administer prohibited substances or prohibited methods, whether or not included as examples, other than in strict compliance with this Code.

5. Prohibited Classes of Substances and Prohibited Methods

 (a) The classes of substances and methods prohibited under this Code are those described in the WADA Prohibited List. (b) Persons to whom this Code applies are specifically cautioned:

   (i) The WADA Prohibited List describes, amongst other things, prohibited classes of substances. The naming of substances in the WADA Prohibited List is by way of example only and the fact that a substance is not so named does not affect its prohibition if the substance is within a prohibited class.

(ii) Amendments or additions to the WADA Prohibited List take effect under this Code at the same time as they take effect under the WADA Prohibited List.

(iii) It is the obligation of each Person to whom this Code applies to inform himself or herself of all substances and methods prohibited under this Code. It is not a defence to any claim that a Person has breached this Code for that Person to contend:

       (A) ignorance that a substance or method is prohibited; 12

      (B) an honest and reasonable, but mistaken, belief that a substance or method is not prohibited under this Code;

      (C) lack of intention to use or administer a Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method;

       (D) inadvertent use or administration of a Prohibited Substance or Prohibited Method;

       (E) that the substance or method was Used or Administered for therapeutic purposes unless permission has been granted under clause 9; or

       (F) that the substance or method in question did not enhance the performance of the Player concerned or was otherwise not performance enhancing.

I am agreeing with you and questioning Flash

The players, being sold a story that would never stand the scrutiny of a proper inquiry, totally ignoring the leading paragraph in the WADA code and the sections about ''personal responsibility''?

Either they were gullible or bought into the premiership enhanced chances being put to them willingly, which then makes them culpable.

As someone said last week, any 13yo kid with a sniff of getting onto a future Olympic squad becomes obsessive about even what cough medicine they should take, yet we are being asked to believe that one of Australia's biggest most professional clubs and it's professional athletes is oblivious to the risk of sticking needles into their arms, not even being told what was in the needles.

If you don't want to know what your players health status is i.e. What have they been drinking, eating, injecting why would you not want to know?

C'mon Flash wake up and smell the roses!!!!! It is not that hard.

At worst he knew that what was occurring shouldn't be occurring as simple
as that.

That allows him now to be complicit after the event, well congratulation, not a champion,
not a class act, a self centred I am the best everything revolves around me gutless grub.

Hird is guilty as sin but duty of care to players, really? Was he minding a creche of toddlers? The players have  had it drummed into their thick heads a hundred times over that they have a strict liability for what goes into their body. Not a difficult concept to grasp, morons. The players have a duty of care to themselves.

Employers have a duty of care to their employees.

Employees don't have a duty of care to themselves.

Employees have to act responsibly and follow their employers procedures and processes otherwise their employment can be terminated.
They followed their employers processes and procedures is that so difficult to understand is it Tlaz.

So difficult to understand that if the players did not do what the club required their jobs their livelihoods would be gone.
Ever tried to feed your family the paint on the walls Tlaz, you can do it but you won't put on much weight.

The Coach only needed to or still needs to come out and state 'As senior coach of the Essendon Football club the buck stops with myself and the board at the time, i take full responsibility for the players under my care during this time and I ask that the players be spared and treated as innocent victims in this issue'

'If' he had of done that WADA may never have got involved and the players would of need spared.

The Captain has to go down with the Ship to earn respect not swim for the shore.

WorkSafe Victoria charge Essendon Football club

Caroline Wilson
Published: November 9, 2015 - 1:50PM

Essendon have been charged by WorkSafe Victoria for breaching two counts of the Occupational Health and Safety Act after a long investigation which also saw the AFL investigated but cleared of any breaches.

The charges relate to the supplements scandal which took place at Essendon from the end of 2011 until August 2012 and saw the club fined $2 million by the AFL and coach James Hird suspended for a year, along with draft penalties.

The charges from WorkSafe come just a week before the World Anti-Doping Agency brings its case against some of Essendon's current and former players before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Sydney.

That hearing is scheduled for November 16. It is not known how long the case will take to be heard.

WorkSafe released a statement on Monday morning outlining the charges.

"Following a comprehensive investigation, WorkSafe has charged the Essendon Football Club with two breaches of the OHS Act 2004 in relation to its 2011-2012 supplements program," the statement read.

"The charges are: One breach of section 21(1) – failing to provide and maintain for employees a working environment that is, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risks to health; one breach of 21(2)(a) - failing to provide and maintain for employees a system of work that is, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risks to health.

"WorkSafe understands the significant public interest in the details surrounding this matter. However, as it is now before the court, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.

"WorkSafe has also completed its investigation into alleged breaches of the OHS Act by the Australian Football League. Following a review of the available and admissible evidence, it could not be established to the requisite standard that the AFL breached the OHS Act."

There will be a mention hearing on November 30.

"We are aware of the charges laid by Worksafe Victoria, and have liaised with both WorkSafe and Essendon Football Club throughout the investigation," Brett Murphy, legal counsel for the AFL Players Association, said.

"Given this matter is now before the courts, we are not in a position to provide any further comment."

Former Bomber Hal Hunter has been seeking a court order forcing Essendon and the AFL to provide more documents relating to the supplements program before deciding whether to pursue legal action against them.

Hunter's lawyers claim both organisations had a duty of care to Hunter when he was a player and he is now worried about his health, safety and well-being after being subjected to the experimental supplements program run by Stephen Dank.

And Fairfax Media reported last week that Essendon believe that the players facing the WADA appeal are unlikely to be suspended even if found guilty of anti-doping offences.

And outgoing chairman Paul Little said the mentality of some players facing the appeal had shifted to one that is less protective of their reputations and more focused on just "moving on" and playing football.

The Bombers released a statement on Monday afternoon via their website.

"Essendon Football club has been assisting WorkSafe with its investigation and agreed to the charges laid today," the statement said.

"The charges reflect the governance failings of the club at that time, which the club has accepted responsibility.

"As this matter is now before the Court, the club will make no further comment at this time."

The AFL followed suit shortly after.

"The Australian Football League was today notified by WorkSafe Victoria that it had completed its investigation into alleged breaches of the OHS Act 2004 by the AFL," the league said.

"The AFL notes that this matter is now concluded, with no further action towards to the AFL from WorkSafe Victoria.

"The AFL is aware of the two charges laid by WorkSafe Victoria with respect to the Essendon Football Club.  Given that matter is now before the courts, the AFL are not in a position to provide any further comment."

INJECTIONS ... IN ORDER TO give someone an injection, you must be a doctor, nurse practioner (R.N. with further education), an LPN (licenced practical nurse), or an R.N. (registered nurse). If you are a child or an adult with a particular need for injections (diabetes, cancer etc.) a nurse can instruct you how, and you can give them to yourself. ALSO, trained medical personnel, like an EMT in an ambulance can give injections and start I.V.'s. <<<ADR>>>

Sounds like you may not like him Aurelius so whatever he says won't matter.

Even the medical staff were given assurances that were reneged on. Trained qualified medical staff assured by other qualified personel higher up (as Hird alluded to happened several times in his situation as well)

So what hope would Hird have. And by the way it's just a football club Hird has better things to do.

At least he's learnt a little more about loyalty and trust, he just has to wait a little for what happens next in the learning process. He's smart and strong enough to as the interview showed but only just.

He sacked Evans as a friend. Same with the Doc. Same with others who attempted to counsel.

Could play football great.

But a total failure at very single job or enterprise he's taken on since retirement from the playing field.

And more than anything a total failure as a person.

Just imo.
