Serious question - well almost anyway. Up here in Sydney there has been bugger all coverage on it. I said to a mate today are you having a bet on the Derby. He said "maybe - but the Golden Eagle is of more interest to him". If the Vic's are not worried at how successful the Sydney carnival has been well they darn should be. A real shift in momentum going on.

There are fliers all over my work place wanting peoples to be involved in $1 $2 and $5 sweeps.
It is alive and well in Newcastle. |

Over here in SA from my observations Caulfield Cup/Everest Day felt very much level pegging. Interest in both meetings was high, and they seemed to compliment each other quite well for a great days racing.
Today the impression was it was all about Derby Day. Interest in the Golden Eagle was minimal in comparison. Again however these are just my observations from being at the track/chatting with friends. As far as the Cup is concerned, would think that the buildup feels similar to recent years. Perhaps not Makybe Diva era levels of interest, but still the one event non racing people seem to have an interest in. Unfortunately that now includes people who watched 5 minutes of the 7.30 report becoming overnight experts on the 'dangers of the Cup.' |

Serious answer Nsw and vic win and place totes combined both races Golden eagle 1.656.000 Derby. 2.381.000 Combines nsw and vic quaddies Rosehill 1.934.000 Flemington, 5.285.000 Lol if Sydney can’t match the derby , forget about the Melbourne Cup That’ll have 100 times that money on it Crowd numbers would be interesting, Rosehill looked (on tv like it wouldn’t have had ten thousand there???) Flemington would have had triple the crowd regardless of what Rosehill had |

Comparing apples and oranges there. Derby Day is Melbourne’s biggest day of the year, the Golden Eagle is obviously not meant to be Sydney’s equivalent with only a couple of new big races and the rest was benchmark stuff. Overall the new approach to the Sydney spring carnival has done a great job of adding interest in Sydney racing through to November whereas as in the past it was all over by Epsom Day. Whether it goes on to challenge Melbourne racing for interest in the spring remains to be seen but they’ve made a strong start for sure. |

Yes i am sure it depends on were you are based. As a Sydneysider all i can say is that there has been a concerted push to keep the local carnival on the front page. Done a great job with local media ($$$$). Probably doesn't spread as far as Newcastle - no value in appealing to the bottom feeders of the population (only kidding djebel) .

I heard V'landy had moved the Melbourne Cup to Hawkesbury, on 7th.
He has a 25 million maiden on at Molong on Tuesday. |

Moonee Valley was decimated and the manikato stakes field really suffered. I remember when the pools were getting joined together over a decade ago. Whilst Vlandy’s dukes it out sports bettings grip will tighten even more. American sports betting will dwarf these carnivals soon enough anyway.

Does anyone know of a leaked email directing Sydney media to not mention the Caulfield Cup but to only mention the Everest?

You mean the Murdoch media? There was so much Everest and Eagle coverage in the Morning Murdoch, obviously paid for, that alleged email wasn't needed - there wasn't enough room in the paper to fit anything else.

Mistakes were made over 100 years ago. Melbourne should of had autumn and Sydney should of had spring! Weather wise it suits both
