I thought he had loads of ability on his trial and got on today, but to hear O'Shea after the race explain how little they had done with him tells you this horse is a serious animal.

Bred to be a star too.

Anyone know what happened to this horse after his run at the Gold Coast? I assumed he was being aimed at the Brisbane majors but no sign of him.

When he won on debut, O'Shea mentioned he had had his share of problems early on. I wonder if something has happened.

Trainer John O'Shea says 2YO Impending has gone to the paddock after run at the Gold Coast last Saturday. Holler trials Friday week then UK.

Thanks, SYT.

You'd have to think there was an issue?  He hit the line full of energy and was desperately unlucky. You wouldn't send him to the GC for fun, it would have been with the big races in mind.

Hopefully he just needs a rest and can feature in the spring.

$11 with TAB is best available for the Golden Rose. It's nothing special but I expect him to be a serious chance in the race. As above, I've been keen on him for a while, and his trials this time in have been A1.

A few nice horses in Golden Rose contention like Star Turn, Capitalist, Mediterranean, El Divino, Yankee Rose, Omei Sword. Is Manaya running in it? Should be a hot race if they all make it in good shape.

Capitalist confirmed as a non-starter in the Golden Rose.

He's a good'n Sunline. I've backed him to win the Caul Guineas (along with Divine Prophet).
Both sire and dam were Group 1 winners over the mile.(Caul Guineas and Thousand Guineas)
I started with nothing and still have most of it left

If he's winning the Caulfield Guineas, you'd think he'll be there to win the Golden Rose. I might hit the CG price all the same though.

Would have to run in the 1400m Golden Rose two weeks at most after his resuming run.  Possibly just a tad tight time-wise.

Sat week's Run to the Rose is a logical leadup and has proved to be a good guide since its inception in 2003, providing 6 of the 13 winners of the GR, including 4 dual winners: Exosphere, Hallowed Crown, Denman, Paratroopers. 1200m first up then 2 weeks into the 1400m G1 seems near perfect depending on track conditions.

To be more explicit, just how many of those six winners actually had just one run on resuming after a spell in the Run To The Roses before contesting the GR?

Clearly an invitation for you to cop out and me to cop in.

Either way at this stage I'd be happier taking a quote about him in the Guineas, but surprise surprise have actually been wrong once or twice before.  Smile

It just shows how poor training is in Australia when they can not get a horse ready for a 1400m race off the back of one run.

The skill and facilities available for horses owners in Australia is abysmal.

The answer is easy enough to find and it won't surprise most.

Horses which raced at the Qld carnival - eg Impending - will have residual fitness so probably less pressure to get them physically prepared.

Trainers of lesser quality horses might look for an extra run with the hope of a slight fitness edge but I've no doubt at all that they all know what it takes to win a G1 over 1400m early in a prep. Harder with new 3yos though because they're obviously somewhat of an unknown quantity.

Not sure how many have attempted it but interestingly the GR/CG double is as rare as hens' teeth with some horses staying in Sydney and others taking a sprinting path etc

Off the top of my head, Zoustar was 4th in the Run To The Rose first up and then won the Golden Rose second up.

As 3BM has said, he had residual fitness from a winter in QLD, which Impending had of sorts with a debut in Sydney and a single race in QLD before spelling.

There is no way you can't have a horse ready to win a 1400m G1 second up. A good enough horse can be at an early peak for the GR and still have a strong bullet left for the Caulfield Guineas with even a run in between like the Stan Fox or Guineas Prelude.

Swap the runs and the jockeys and there's no doubt who wins imo. A cold ride by Berry? in the CG will see him turn the tables.

1st

IMPENDING

James McDonald

I had a beautiful run, had jockeys playing jockeys for a while, but we got the result we wanted He's a good horse in his own right. I think he's a Group I horse for sure, he's in the shadow of Astern. He's got a great turn of foot and a great nature.

2nd

DIVINE PROPHET

Christian Reith

He ran really well. They just went too steady for him. He wanted to over-race a bit in the run. He lost a shoe at about the furlong and he'll take good improvement.

Couldn't disagree more, with respect. I thought the poor ride was given to Impending and he was dominant despite this. With a better ride would have won by a margin.

Even luck and he beats DP again in the CG.
