I was on him today, but he needs to improve a whole lot to beat Jameka in Australian Cup. Not saying he can't win the Cup, just that he's still a way off Jameka.

Can anyone tell me, in NZ did he do the majority of his racing left or right handed?

That race plated out exactly how I imagined it with the exception of Tom Melbourne not leading and boxing on. Had first and second in a trifecta with TM.

Humidor is a very good horse but the run of Exospheric was foreboding.

He was trained in the Central Districts where every track is left handed and logically would have been trained that way.  He was laying in just like that in NZ both last season and in the Spring Classic in October which probably cost him the win.

Anyway they got him to the NZ Derby on a rushed prep at start 4, which was his only right handed right.  And it went like this.....

11th-18
stipes report-began awkwardly, badly hampered 1800m, rider reported had hung outwards badly throughout and was unable to be fully tested as a result

He actually ran on well late but somehow seemed an even more difficult ride that way around.

I've backed him the last two starts for two seconds... backed him win only of course.

I'm on him in the Aus Cup at $26 so maybe that's when he pays me back?

How does he win a race if he keeps hanging though?

No gear change either which surprises me.

Marscay, I would love to see the jock go with him when he hangs in instead of fighting him and spoiling his momentum. If he can get him into open space down the centre of Flemington, he may be able to cut loose and hang in without cleaning up other horses. They run faster when they're let go rather than riding on one rein while tugging on the off rein to pull him straight.

Either that or get him to the front sooner so he can just run to the rail!
Sunline...simply supreme

Good question... guess we just have to trust Weir re no gear change. He was in front of Stratum Star just after the finishing post so no doubt can still win this race at Flemington if he hangs. Added bonus for his backers if he decides to run straight....

Weir said after his last run he wants to train him to run straight without needing a gear change. See how he goes.

A barrage of social media concerning the wellbeing of Australian Cup favourite Humidor sent shockwaves through the Australian racing world on Saturday morning.

However, it seems that the outcry about the condition of Humidor was the result of an oversight by the four-year-old's strapper.

Racing Victoria stewards said that they did a stable inspection at 3am on Saturday morning at the Warrnambool stables of Darren Weir and found a plunger from a syringe in top-line galloper Humidor's feed bin.

But stable staff said the plunger contained a liquid that should be lathered over the tongue of the horse to help with its digestive system overnight.

"After the inspection it was pointed out that instead of having the liquid put on the horse's tongue it was inadvertently thrown into the feed bin. We have examined the plunger and the liquid inside it and are content that nothing untoward happened," chief steward Terry Bailey said.

"It was merely an oversight by an attendant at the stable and the horse is free to run."

Humidor is the $4.20 favourite to take out Saturday's $1.25 million Australian Cup.

Bailey on RSN: They give a vitamin preparation syringed over the tongue when they put the feeds in at night but in this case, the staff member left it in the feeder without having given it - oversight & I doubt it'll affect his performance Big smile

Harmless medication even if given (don't think it is against the rules  to be given night before anyway)

Odd oversight. A syringe in the stall of a G1 favourite. Lucky the stewards found it. Thought the first thing the strapper would have done is check the horses feed bin. Great control

Yes- and prior to Oct 2015, injectable vitamins were still allowed too, just not after midnight as that would then be Raceday..

Is it a needle? I was sure no administration on the day before.
