Using two absolute champions of the turf as examples to show a lack of competitiveness is a failure of logic I'd suggest. Early retirements and a plethora of Group races might be better indicators.

Nice list of trainers Three Bears.

Interesting that there’s still a few old timers on your list that are still actively training, including the likes of Bruce Purcell, John Gaffney & John Pearson.

But in the hype around ‘super stables’ these great old trainers are pretty much forgotten about and now only have a handful of horses in work.

My father used to race horses with Teddy Cameron at Morphettville back in the day. Big punting stable! His son and grandson are still in the game in Melbourne.
