So my mare's half-brother made a very nice debut in Hong Kong today after being hyped for a few weeks. Hot King Prawn - initially bought by Price bloodstock and had a few jump outs and trials with Mick Price is now with John Size and a first start 2yo Hong Kong winner...

Might be in for some page updates with our girl Big smileClap

How to stuff a pedigree page, send one to Asia, unless of course you are happy seeing your families on a one way ticket. Very few are repatriated, only plus is it is with John Size, unless they go to the likes of Moore or Size/Hall, kiss the page updates goodbye.

How so Bonjour? Is the feeling that only the asian market appreciates wins over there?

I'm just happy he's been placed with a good trainer. Storm's page was very light on when we bought her.. hence her only costing $12k. Talented family so I'm glad he's with a champion trainer over there.

Ps. Xavier - mixed up Mick Price with Price Bloodstock who owned him.

It's my opinion SS, A Gr race in Asia doesn't carry anywhere near the cred anywhere else does, plus it's a crap life for a horse, you don't think they get a happy retirement in China do you? Singapore and Malaysia are even worse, unless those horses unlucky enough to end up there in that stinking heat [and I spent a lot of time in KL in the 80's.....until I woke up and got a conscience] have owners that want them back in OZ/NZ after their racing ends......Black Type in HK is a furphy, maybe the invitation or elevated races in DEC, but in all reality, ask the UK bloodstock agents, not the sycophants that masquerade as bloodstock agents here.

What do we make of these Demans? They seem to be a flash in the pan. I remember early on Darley were shutting the book on him - they would be giving away noms these days with the way they failed to go on.

Might be a concern for whether this one has scope to go on with it - albeit I haven't even seen him yet.

Storm Siren - congrats. Hope he adds a zero to the value of your mare!

It'll be interesting - the family of late hasn't really been two year old types, they tend to be better at 3-4 years and over a slightly longer trip (1400-1600). Will be fun to watch...

Hot King Prawn offers the bare minimum in domination

John Size’s youngster is the first horse in five years to return the bottom dividend of $1.05 as he cruises away for a commanding victory

Hot King Prawn won his way out of griffin class and into the general horse population with another hollow victory at Sha Tin on Sunday as the first horse in five years to pay the minimum dividend but he won’t be seen again this term.

Amber Sky was the last horse to return the minimum payout of $10.50 for a $10 bet, in May 2012, and Bear Hero in May the year before that – both after winning griffin races – but before them it was Silent Witness more than a decade ago.

Hot King Prawn (Zac Purton) never gave his legion of backers a moment’s concern, bouncing to the front and strolling in by almost six lengths to be John Size’s 90th winner for the season, but the C-grade opposition he has beaten leaves no one any the wiser as to his ultimate capabilities.

While some were waxing lyrical about what’s to come, Purton and Size were more circumspect.

“The horses he beat today aren’t very good and he’s had two soft kills against the same kind of opposition,” Purton said. “He does everything right, he has good gate speed and a good head on his shoulders but until he is put under pressure, nobody knows what he’s made of.”

And that’s not something he’s going to have a chance to show this season, with Size not at all interested in throwing the two-year-old in against open age Class Three horses after he is given a rating by the handicapper today.

“My job is to realise his potential – whatever it is – so I’ll look after him and there’s plenty of time next season for Class Three,” Size said.

“Even then, there won’t be any hurry to run him soon or often and I’ll let him tell me when he is right to go. The handicapper will give him a number now and it will be up to me to manage him so he can catch up to that number when he does run.”

The victory left Size one short of the all-time record season’s tally for a trainer.

Looks like this guy is starting again on Sunday at Sha Tin trying to make it four from four... based on his first up run and looking at the opposition shouldn't be too much of a stretch to get there...Star

Hope you're right SS.

However he's still a restricted galloper and the one he beat today has won just 4 from 37.

He has a poor strike rate but he is very consistent at this level and Hot King Prawn treated him with contempt.

Very True - all he can do though is keep on winning. Untouched is what you’d expect with the company. Let’s see how he goes against C2 next time

I find it laughable the caller refers to barrier 14 as the extreme outside gate when the whole field converges to the same side of the course everytime there is a 1000m race at Shatin.

The way he calls it the extreme outside gate indicates it is a disadvantage when it is clearly an advantage being drawn in that gate.

Yep, very consistent at this level, having recorded one win, one 2nd and one 3rd from his last 18 starts.  Smile
