And there in lies the problem for our stayers. They should not be running in all those races. By the time our stayers get to a proper trip they have lost all enthusiasm and the speed as been raced out of them. |

You can't blame the race for what you may consider sub-standard horses, blame the breeding industry.

But you can blame the way races are programmed in this country. |

I agree the programming of the BMW is ludicrous. But so is the Cox Plate.

Sorry but you are not right on this and on the rail movements too. It is moved pretty much every meeting here ( I can't recall 2 meetings in a row were they kept it the same other than the all weather of course) |

you're are having a lend of me I see.. I never said there was no rail movement..I said very little, by comparison to here it is barely noticeable and bias is virtually non existent due to this. When has the rail at the Valley or Sha Tin ever been out 6m in the straight..? hell even 4m in the straight..? |

There is constant rail movement. Anything on the 'B' course or more means the rail is 4m+ out.

I would say the lack of bias is due to limited artificial watering.

Quezacotl, mares are allowed to race in Hong Kong all year around. It's just rare that they do.
Moccastocker, they did handle it okay the way it is - although the last two, Fiumicino and Eremein, didn't race as three year olds. |

You can hardly blame the breeders. They're just catering to the market. A market which sees restricted sales 2yo races worth $2 million, for instance.

Having just returned from a very enjoyable week in HK - and attending both Happy Valley and Sha Tin the thing that annoyed me was the inability to bet on our races on the Saturday. We can bet on the HK races every week but only on special meetings can they bet on our races.
Had to resort to betting on line in Aust races. Their was significant leader bias at Happy Valley last Wednesday (7th December) and anti leader bias at Sha Tin on Sunday.

As Andy said, fillies/mares are rare but they do race here. Go look up a mare called Happy Contender. She's had 28 runs here the most recent in a C5 at the Valley at the end of November. |

Kav would be right for those who've ran in my time here. She was regarded as the best in HK for a brief time. Sweet Sanette would be the best performed mare of recent times.

i think they loved hongkong because it more cheaper for the participants and a lot of jockey, trainers and horses are joining the race.the prizes are more bigger than other place here in Asia. And people there are so accommodating.

Well I admit I was wrong then, I took my statement of "no fillies and mares" from pouring over the fields of hong kong racing and not ever seeing a mare in the fields, just saw gelding after gelding ..obviously I did see a mare or two in a field but was beyond looking carefully enough and just assumed all geldings by the time I'd gone over it.

Over 100,000 people at the races tonight in Sha Tin, record betting levels almost weekly this season. Amazing how much a sport can prosper when it is well-organized, clean and strong governance.

Final figures of 111,000 people at the track with a turnover of $1.526 billion (HK dollars). Amazing!!
Last race an absolute cracker too.

Hong Kong racing is some kind on benchmark no doubt...
I would like to see a lot more night racing here, kick off night meetings @ 5pm during the weeknights instead of endless dogs and diahorea... Night racing would boost turnover significantly on the weekday gallops imo. |
