Interesting to look back on this thread after Press Statement wins the Caulfield Guineas and cements Hinchinbrook's place as a stallion! Does anyone still think $16,500 was too high a fee? His yearlings have sold well and now he has the racetrack performances to back that value. Will his fee go up next year?

Probably... and the naysayers would have a valid case to declare it as undeserved. Bloke's got a grand total of two stakes winners, off an already high base.

Dollar is low, so the internationals will be buying... but where will the dollar be in two years? If it stays low, they'll increase (I would).

If you take press statement out the rest of his runners have learnt 180k this season

Hard to judge a stallion so early but he has produced a g1 winner, although Domesday also produced one out of the same mare.

38 runners in total for 13 winners and 2 sw, not shabby but a long way to go before getting excited

True however works both ways. Those that went to Sepoy in his 2nd and 3rd years would be concerned and those that went to Pierro last season and that will this one will be crossing fingers!

I expected & would have been comfortable with a price rise as he deserves it.

Just didnt expect it to be that high & believe it is too high.

I would of thought maybe 27500-33000 would of been fair, he has been doing a good job. If Press Statement actually went to Royal Ascot and won it could be fair enough.

Some stallions look great when first and second year sires however look a bit ordinary and have
their work cut out when thrown in amongst the seasoned stallions.

It is only early of course.

Hinchinbrook Dead
Tara Madgwick - Monday July 16
At the height of his powers and with a full book of mares to cover this spring, Yarraman Park's Hinchinbrook has died tragically today as the result of a broken hind leg.

Hinchinbrook

Hinchinbrook

Foaled and raised at Yarraman Park, Hinchinbrook was turning 11 this year and was at the peak of his career with seasonal earnings of $6.2 million and 100 winners highlighted by five stakes-winners headed by Group I winning filly Seabrook.

"We are devastated as you can imagine," said Harry Mitchell.

"He's been a special horse for us and we believed in him from the start. He wasn't an easy horse to get going as he was not the most fertile, but he kept proving himself and getting that good horse.

"It just breaks your heart, but it's something that happens. It happened to Northern Meteor and it happened to Scat Daddy, as sad as it is, you just have to regroup and move on."

A three-quarter brother to champion sire Snitzel, Hinchinbrook was a top class two year-old that trained on at three to numerous Group I placings and retired at a fee of $16,500.

By champion sire Fastnet Rock, he was the Champion First Season Sire of 2014/2015 defeating Beneteau and Star Witness and his first crop included outstanding colt Press Statement, a dual Group I winner of over $1million in prizemoney.

Hinchinbrook enjoyed a steady rise to sustained commercial success and was fully booked for this spring at a fee of $55,000 after covering books of 148 and 129 mares in his past two seasons at fees of $38,500 and $44,000.

Yarraman Park Stud's Hinchinbrook dies following exercise accident

Son of Fastnet Rock broke a leg on a walker at Hunter Valley farm

Yarraman Park Stud has been dealt a huge blow on the eve of the new southern hemisphere breeding season with the sudden and freak death of their top-class stallion Hinchinbrook.

The son of Fastnet Rock would have been entering his eighth year at stud but died after suffering a broken hind leg while on the walking machine at the Hunter Valley farm on Monday.

“We are devastated as you can imagine,” Yarraman Park Stud principal Harry Mitchell said.

“He’s been a special horse for us and we believed in him from the start. He wasn’t an easy horse to get going as he was not the most fertile, but he kept proving himself and getting that good horse.

“It just breaks your heart, but it’s something that happens.

“It happened to Northern Meteor and it happened to Scat Daddy. As sad as it is, you have to regroup and move on.”

Unbelievable.

For $8-10m in revenue, you'd reckon they could find someone to walk him around for a bit.

They were walking Danehill around for a bit, letting him have a pick, when he pulled/reared/fell,,,whatever he did,,and died as a result of that.
Unless you are there to actually see it with your own eyes, you are always thinking  "how the hell did that happen "  ??   Or at least, I am.
