As a four- and five-year-old, Carbine won 17 of what would prove to be his last 18 races. On four occasions Carbine won twice on the same day. His victory in the 1890 Melbourne Cup was noteworthy. He set a weight-carrying record of 10 st 5 lb (66 kg) in the Cup, defeating a field of 39 starters and setting a record time for the race. He carried 53 lb (24 kg) more than the second-place horse, Highborn.

Carbine raced 4 or 5 times in a week, including twice in a day 6 times over major carnivals, racing and winning switching up and down in distance between 1200m/1400m up to 4800m. 4 times he won over 1600m and 3200m on the same day during those sequences

No contest as overall racehorse.

Phar Lap. Unbelievable record, carried weight and if you asked the average person on the street that question the vast majority would say the same.

Before my time, but from what I have read and little vision, awesome ... we may never have actually seen his best either.

Of the overseas raiders, I recall being impressed by what Almarrad did in the short period he was here, apparently unsound, and in a period when our stocks were pretty strong.

his brings back memories of some nice horses too;
