insider brought this up in the hoop thread, but i would like everyones opinion and clarification......

in protests, ie. 4th vs. 1st, do the stewards have to be satisfied that the 1st horse cost the 4th horse 1st place or 3rd place, i believe that if the horse in front of the protesting horse should have the race taken off them if they have cost the protesting horse even one place.... i dont think this is the case...

thoughts on anything else to do with protests??

(2) If a placed horse or its rider causes interference within the meaning of this Rule to another

placed horse, and the stewards are of the opinion that the horse interfered with would have finished

ahead of the first mentioned horse had such interference not occurred, they may place the first

mentioned horse immediately after the horse interfered with. For the purpose of this Rule "placed

horse" shall be a horse placed by the Judge in accordance with AR.157.

Blake; The rule I would like to see is that any horse causing significant interference is RELEGATE to last. Then there is no incentive to ride outside the rules. Owners would vote by not using jockeys who cause interference.

3 minutes after a race most on course punters know what's happened in a race sure it would therefore be easy for experienced stewards to police.(they'll say otherwise)

Winning trainer concedes race

A Group One-winning trainer in New Zealand conceded a race in the stewards' room at New Plymouth on Thursday.

In some pretty rare scenes, local trainer Allan Sharrock - renowned for training seven-time G1 winner Kawi among 17 career G1 successes - shouldered arms following a protest, after his horse Malo Bik won race five over 1400m.

Malo Bik had held out Mikjene by the narrowest of margins on the line, but when connections of the runner-up took matters further with a second-against-first protest alleging interference in the final 100m, it was an easy decision for the stewards given the winning trainer conceded without a fight.

"During the course of the protest hearing after viewing relevant films Trainer A Sharrock indicated that he did not wish to contest the protest," the stewards' report read.

"The objection was then upheld by the Judicial Committee relegating Malo Bik to second placing."

If you had backed Malo Bik you might be feeling aggrieved at the turn of events, but from a sportsmanship point-of-view, it's certainly commendable he took that avenue given he could have easily followed the 'self-interest' path.

Further to the result being overturned, Malo Bik's jockey Wiremu Pinn pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in allowing his mount to shift out inside the final 100m, earning him a six-day suspension.

Check out the crucial final stages of the race below.

Without having seen the headon footage I am staggered the trainer did not mount a case.

The shift is almost two horses, on two occasions, when the runner up is within half a length & the margin is a pixel... pretty straight forward.

Old mate is probably an advocate for letting the vision do the talking. Keep the day moving.
