Out of interest, the stallion is being sold at MM broodmare sale as a supplementary lot, BUT from the draft of Newgate Farm, not Williams. Fertility issue ????? And why under the Newgate flag??????

I’ll post a snippet from Mm below, my understanding is the horse is at Newgate being prepped for the sale on behalf of Lloyd.

Blue Blooded Stallion Prospect Joins National Sale
May 10, 2019
One of the best bred stallion prospects in the world has joined the supplementary catalogue for the 2019 Magic Millions National Sale.
The impeccably bred The Taj Mahal, a multiple Group Two winner and member of one of the world’s best and most current families, will join three other stallion prospects to go under the hammer at the conclusion of Day One of the National Broodmare Sale on May 28.
Winner of the last two runnings of the Group Two Zipping Classic at Sandown, The Taj Mahal is by world champion sire Galileo and from the group winning, champion producer You’resothrilling.

The Taj Mahal is a full brother to Group One winners Gleneagles, Happily and Marvellous and a brother in blood to fellow Group One winner Decorated Knight. Gleneagles, a Champion at two and three in Europe, is standing at Coolmore Stud in Ireland and his first runner Highland Chief was a winner.

“The Taj Mahal was a tough, genuine horse who was unlucky not to win a Group One in Australia,” part owner Nick Williams said. “He ran in some of the biggest Group One races in both hemispheres.”

“It’s not often a horse with such an incredible pedigree has the looks to match. He’s an absolutely outstanding individual and his family is high class and very current,” Williams added. “In my opinion he’s the best opportunity for a middle distance stallion in this part of the world since Dundeel.”

If Nick thinks so highly of the stallion, why is he flogging him off  ???  Confused

His racing days are finished.

Lloyd doesn’t breed anymore, so he is trying to do the right thing by the horse and giving him every chance at being a successful stallion.

The ownership group need to win The Cup each year, just to keep their head above water. 13 wins in the Howley era, for $3.6m... They’re also heavily geared in industries that are going backwards.

They need cash to feed the machine. I doubt they give a toss where he ends up.

I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt

But in reality, will probably not make the reserve price.
Which I reckon would be fairly substantial

What in Heaven's name is wrong with offering a horse up for sale as a potential stallion?

Nothing wrong with it imo.

Yes I’m pretty sure he tried to sell USA privately but wanted too much $$

Well that's a blow imo, if they wanted him " hard enough" could have done a deal , lovely horse , Group 1,2,3 winner out of a Pivotel mare, sheesh.

South Africa may be the winner Carioca, and at very least The United States has found a home.

ps see Lloyd is only worth about $670 million these days.  That's what happens when you purchase over 500 horses over your lifetime.  Wink

pss he's rumored to have bought over 100 Zabeel's alone.

The stallion The Taj Mahal was sold at the recent Magic Millions sale to Arthur Hoyeau (as agent) NSW for $560,000.
Does anyone know where he is likely to end up? I'd be interested in following his progress.
