An outstanding race!

Great finish wasn't it. It was a true staying test. I backed Mekong..he was paying $26...I onky backed Mekong as he was 2 wins from 2 starts on heavy tracks. He ran 4th...good effort.

Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

From Racing Post -
Aidan O'Brien is responsible for 11 of the 12 entries for Saturday's Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster. Kameko (Andrew Balding) is the other entry

The sponsor is embarrassed. The media is calling it a farce.

The Doncaster meeting today has been washed out but there is a chance the Gp1 Vertem Futurity Trophy will be rescheduled sometime before 9 November.

Terrible weather in the UK today.

Several Football League matches postponed including Nottingham Forest's Championship match which is not too far from Doncaster.

Magical has been retired after she had high temperature prior to shipping to California in preparation for the Breeders' Cup.

The four-time group 1 winner has been a model of consistency throughout her career, finishing runner-up to Enable on three occasions, including last year's G1 Longines Breeders' Cup Turf , and netting more than £3 million (US$4,321,653) in prize money.

This is worth reporting more for its exotic content. The G1 Grosser Preis von Bayern held in Munich over 2400 metres was won by the Hungarian trained Nancho (bred in GER by Tai Chi (GER) a champion German juvenile in 2011 who finished third in that year's G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud.

Nancho was ridden by his *Mongolian* jockey, Bayarsaikhan Ganbat, who won his first top-level race in Europe.

Enable, Crystal Ocean and Waldgeist, three middle-distance stars who last year took turns to beat each other, have been jointly named the world's top racehorses in 2019 – but they also share the title of being the lowest-rated world champions since international rankings began.

In what was a distinctly underwhelming Flat season judged on numbers, Prix du Jockey Club hero Sottsass has been revealed to be the poorest number-one three-year-old since the inaugural international classifications in 1977.

The official champions of 2019 were unveiled in London at the Longines World's Best Racehorse Awards, during which the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe – in which the Andre Fabre-trained Waldgeist narrowly denied Enable an historic third consecutive success – was named the world's top race for the fourth time in five years.

Enable, Waldgeist and Crystal Ocean all finished their five-year-old season with an official rating of 128, matching the former benchmark low of Rock Of Gibraltar in 2002.

Crystal Ocean was prepared by Sir Michael Stoute to earn his highest mark in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, in which he was beaten a neck by Enable when carrying 3lb more due to the sport's sex allowance, which is not built into the Longines rankings.

Enable's 128 was secured when she landed the Yorkshire Oaks, while Waldgeist – who had finished third to Enable and Crystal Ocean in the King George – soared to his personal best mark by thwarting Enable at Longchamp.

Enable stays in training with John Gosden as a six-year-old but Crystal Ocean and Waldgeist have both been retired.

Star Hong Kong miler Beauty Generation was next in the Longines list on 127, followed by Japan's Lys Gracieux – a sensational winner of the Arima Kinen in late December – America's Vino Rosso and British pair Battaash and Ghaiyyath, who were all awarded 126 and co-fifth position.

Last year's joint world champion Winx, who retired following her 33rd consecutive victory in April, was this time bracketed in ninth on 125, alongside Benbatl and Glory Vase.

Down in co-16th was the world's leading three-year-old Sottsass, whose 123 was collected for his Arc third behind Waldgeist and Enable.

No champion three-year-old had ever previously rated below 125, while Roaring Lion, Cracksman and Arrogate, division leaders of the Classic crop in 2018, 2017 and 2016, finished their seasons on 127, 130 and 134 respectively.

Overall, 296 horses, trained in 17 different countries were rated 115 or higher in 2019, compared to 332 from the same number of countries in 2018.

Danceteria (4g  Redoute's Choice x Bal De La Rose, by Cadeaux Genereux) just won the Gp1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis - Bayerisches Zuchtrennen at Munich. He is currently about $10 in the Cox Plate markets.

Danceteria (FR) is now in the US.

Yesterday started as the 3/1 second favourite and finished 7th on a yielding turf track (with all the raine New Orleans had this last week). This is the second start after an impressive second at Gulfstream Park in an Optional Allowance Claiming event on Jan 13.
