The Herald Sun understands the horse allegedly involved was a former top stayer, who retired several seasons ago and has since died.
Has it been disclosed as to who the horse was? |

Taiyoo Kyneton Cup winner '16, is a possibility as he's down as deceased but Akzar last run Oct '15, though listed as retired, is actually deceased from colic complications, according to the local grapevine a few years ago

They were Weir horses.
It is a horse trained by McLean and under his name that is being investigated according to reports. I’m pretty sure Akzar ended up with Michelle Payne and Taiyoo died in a race in Tassie by the looks of it. |

“The animal concerned died some five years ago,” Broadfoot told the court.
This is from one article I read |

The article doesn't state specifically that he was training it under his name. Whilst he was foreman, it could have occurred at W/bool or the Forest Lodge stables, that press release doesn't clarify either

Word on the streets is that it was before he was employed by Weir.

Whilst I hope nobody gets away with anything untoward, THAT is pretty much a Lawyer doing his job.

Police warrants are very specific and heavily vetted, rightfully so. Participants need to be careful what they are wanting here as far as an outcome... if RV are allowed use evidence specifically acquired by police (which you may note, THEY haven’t used nor acted upon) that was unlawfully given to them and it is allowed by a Judge, a dangerous precedent is set. Participants liberties are so few under the Rules anyway- how about Racing do their jobs properly and follow proper procedures for once- it’s not like they have zero access |

nine news
Suspended Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Darren Weir has faced court charged with torturing, abusing, overworking and terrifying horses. Fellow trainer Jarrod McLean and stable hand Tyson Kermond appeared alongside him in the Melbourne Magistrates Court today, also on animal cruelty charges, and stable hand William Hernan appeared on corrupt conduct charges. Weir is accused of torturing, abusing, overworking, terrifying and causing unreasonable suffering to a thoroughbred race horse, as well as a conspiracy to defraud Racing Victoria stewards, following January police raids on his Ballarat and Warrnambool stables. |
