You'd wonder why. Doesn't Weir, more than almost all Australian trainers, have the facilities to prepare horses to win first up at a distance?

In that European style prep would they have any fast gallops before resuming over a distance?

If you are four or more wide in the straight you might as well stay in your stable!

This one is a DK special..

Granted he was in the wrong spot and holding a lot of condition, my guess is he will never fire another shot

Just remember our annual form history reference.

VRC Derby winners who run in the Australian Guineas, usually run a place.

I would expect about $3 to $3.50 the place now at least.

Goss from an owner:

Extra Brut..... going to race in Hong Kong full time. Aquis bought 39.25% before Derby..... They made an offer on Monday to buy 11% or more to gain control which meant they were going to take it to Hong Kong if accepted. Owners wanted to run Melbourne Cup, and were unaware of the wheelings and dealings going on in the background

Won't run 3200m out strong in a pink fit so HK good move.

Extra Brut made a promising start to his Hong Kong racing career, finishing third in Saturday night’s Chevalier Cup Handicap at Sha Tin.

At his first start since finishing down the track in this year’s Australian Guineas, the 2018 Victoria Derby winner closed off stylishly to be beaten 1.75 lengths in the 1600m race won by Fast Most Furious.

Jockey Keith Yeung was thrilled with the performance.

“He’s still not fit, but he feels like a really nice horse,” Yeung said.

“At the 600 (metres) mark, when they started to kick up he couldn’t follow the pace, so I just looked after him to let him do everything right and get into his rhythm - then he changed legs and finished off really well.”

The son of Domesday, who is now trained by Frankie Lor, will head towards the Classic Series, which kicks off with the Hong Kong Classic Mile on January 27.

Sad news with Frankie Lor losing 2018 Victoria Derby winner Extra Brut in a stable accident this morning at Sha Tin.

Was due to trial this morning but was euthanised after suffering a freak leg injury on walking machine #HKracing

This is actually not a rare occurrence but naturally only the 'name' horses ever get publicity.

Should pools, treadmills or even riding horses, also be banned? They get hurt in rubber walled boxes & in paddocks too. Accidents happen tho' from my experience, many are avoidable.

Are we talking about treadmill type things or those ones that look like Hills hoists? Horses are too big and clumsy for treadmills. They are dangerous enough for humans.

Isn’t that similar to what happened to Hinchinbrook?

“Where in this wide world can man find nobility without pride, friendship without envy, or beauty without vanity? Here where grace is laced with muscle and strength by gentleness confined”
