Jockeys Brad Rawiller and Brian Higgins remain in the trauma ward of the Alfred Hospital, four days after their nasty fall at Cranbourne, but both are on the mend and in reasonable spirits according to Victorian Jockeys' Association executive Matt Hyland.
Hyland visited the pair again on Thursday and said while it's been a traumatic week for the jockeys and their young families, they're both in much better condition than they were earlier in the week. Higgins came out of ICU on Monday night and underwent additional lung x-rays but is now well enough to leave hospital shortly. "Higgo is really hopeful that he will be able to leave hospital this afternoon (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday), which would be great, especially as he has a four-week old baby at home, so he's been desperate to get back to his family," Hyland said. "Brad is also just as desperate to be home with his young family but it's still unsure when he will be able to leave hospital. "He still has significant swelling around his injured collarbone and they still have to wait for that to go down before deciding whether or not he'll need surgery on it." Along with a fractured collarbone Rawiller also suffered fractures to the C4 and C5 in his neck. "Both riders have a lot of great support around them and have been thankful for all the visitors and messages they've received," Hyland said. "Many jockeys have been making a big effort especially to get in touch with them both and pass on their support." |

Thanks POP, thoughts are with them and their families.
Hoping they can make full recoveries as soon as possible. |

Yes, thanks for keeping us informed and all the best to both. I can still see Rawiller's fall in my head. The broken collarbone was probably all that stood between him and a broken neck. These riders are incredibly brave.

I would imagine, like the Collett incident in Singapore, that all parties are available for the inquiry to be held, but others may know more on precedent here.
As Luke has been through similar tough times before I would imagine he is feeling quite miserable about the incident. Which of course doesn’t excuse it, but it’s a tough gig. |

Inquiry adjourned until all riders available to give evidence.
Probably won’t be until after the carnival, given the fact Brad will be in hospital for at least another week you would think. |

That’s just the way it works. They have to be present for the hearing

So what's happening now that both jockeys are available for the inquiry?
Are stewards waiting until after the Victorian Autumn carnival before hopefully suspending the apparent cause of this serious incident?

Brian Higgins wins at Stoney Creek yesterday, whilst Brad Rawiller salutes today at Ballarat.
Luke Nolen won today too.
