Zululand to Stand at Grenville Stud

Zululand to Stand at Grenville Stud

Grenville Stud is excited to announce that they will be standing Zululand(Fastnet Rock – Dream Play) at stud this upcoming breeding season.

Zululand is exceptionally bred being from the Group 2 winning Hennesey mare Dream Play. Dream Play is a half sister to Group 1 winner Diplomat Lady with the family being filled with stakes performers.

Zululand is a magnificent type, he was purchased by Coolmore and China Horse Club for $1,500,000 as a yearling at the 2013 Australian Easter Yearling Sales and was the fourth most expensive colt sold that year.

Zululand was trained by David Hayes and immediately showed his ability as a 2YO winning the Group 2 Sires Produce Stakes at Flemington convincingly. On this day he defeated subsequent Group 1 winners Awesome Rock, Malaguerra and Stratum Star. Zululand was then taken to Sydney where he ran a gutsy second in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes after sitting outside the leader the whole trip only to be over ran late in the final stages of the race.

Following on from his impressive win in the Group 2 VRC Sires Produce Stakes David Hayes said “I think we have got a good one. He’s probably paid for himself in stallion value with that win. You like to see them finish off like that in the last 100 metres. This is a stallion making race and he has got a stallion’s pedigree.”

Zululand is by Champion Australian Sire, Fastnet Rock who is quickly establishing himself as the leading sire of sires in Australia with the likes of Hinchinbrook, Smart Missile and Foxwedge proving successful sires.

Graeme McCulloch stated “Zululand is an exceptional type, I can see why he made $1,500,000 as a yearling. He had brilliant 2YO speed and has a great pedigree. I am delighted to have secured him to stand at Grenville this upcoming season.”

Zululand will be standing for a fee of $5,500.00 inclusive of GST, payable on a live foal for the 2018 breeding season.

Zululand will stand alongside Mawingo who will be standing for $4,400.00 also payable on a live foal.

For further details head to www.grenville.com.au. Graeme McCulloch can be contacted on 0417 018 895 and Bart McCulloch on 0403 608 873.

Interestingly, the Hayes trained VRC Oaks winner Irish Lights, is also Fastnet/Hennessy mare which gives Blue Hen, Crimson Saint 4 x 5 Smile

Funny you should say that. I am sending a Fastnet mare to Churchill this year. I really like the sex balanced 5f x 5m to Crimson Saint.
Amongst other reasons of course.
You're either Einstein or Frankenstein in this game.
