The long-shot dream of taking an unraced juvenile horse to the Royal Ascot Carnival took a massive leap forward on Monday when filly Luck Favours thrashed her rivals in a trial at Werribee.

The northern hemisphere-bred two-year-old's owner and breeder Anthony Mithen confirmed after the filly won her trial by three-and-a-half lengths that, given all remains well with Luck Favours over the next week or so, she will take her placed alongside Group 1 sprinter Redkirk Warrior on the plane to England next Wednesday.

"She trialled at Cranbourne last week (ran third) and showed talent but left us scratching our heads a bit on a couple of fronts whether or not she was educated enough and had the brain to cope with it all," Mithen said.

"We fiddled around with her and put blinkers on and worked her in blinkers since and it just seemed to clearly get her focussed."

Some weeks ago, Mithen put forward the idea of taking the Starspangledbanner filly back to England to race after declaring her the most precocious of the nine northern-hemisphere-bred foals owned by Rosemont Stud.

She was held up in a trial at Cranbourne just a week ago before finishing third, but on Monday Luck Favours was allowed her head early and dominated the 800-metre trial from the front.

"I think she's just a natural-born runner," Mithen said. "We did want to make sure of it and this morning she's shown us and everyone that maybe there will be another horse that we can barrack for at Royal Ascot."

Mithen said the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes for two-year-olds was the race Luck Favours would be entered for on Day 2 of Royal Ascot on June 20.

Rosmeont Stud’s Anthony Mithen has confirmed two year old filly Luck Favours will be accompanying Redkirk Warrior on a flight to the UK on Wednesday, with both horses to run at Royal Ascot.

Mithen said the filly was bred to northern hemisphere time and would run in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes. She is by his stallion Starspangledbanner and Mithen believes she can enhance her value over there. Her trainer Mark Young will accompany her.

From Racenet. I'm sceptical that she was ever going, and this was a PR exercise. It would be a massive undertaking to send an unraced two year old to the other side of the world to debut.

The Royal Ascot dream is over for one Australian runner.

Rosemont Stud boss Anthony Mithen has confirmed unraced two-year-old Luck Favours will not be on the plane to England to tackle the Group II Queen Mary Stakes during the Royal Ascot carnival.

Mithen told Sky Sports Radio the Mark young-trained filly had an elevated temperature on Wednesday morning, the day on which she was to travel to England with dual Newmarket Handicap winner Redkirk Warrior.

"She was blood-tested and showed there may be signs of an underlying infection yesterday," Mithen said.

"She left most of her feed overnight and had spiked a temperature this morning.

"We've run out of time to get to Ascot but at least we will have a healthy horse."

Luck Favours was bred to northern hemisphere time, making her eligible to take on the European two-year-olds this season.

Also a bit sceptical this was ever going to happen, and also feel we've been had in a PR exercise. Would love to see the transport booking and payments etc...

Goes around race 2 at Seymour. Only 1 tactic likely to be undertaken from barrier 7 .... go like the wind... Query is whether she is a trial squib... guess we'll find out at the 100m mark. Interesting they've gone 1100m on debut. Personally, I hope she bolts in, she'd definitely create interest.

It was a really good win. No Blinkers on today either, she trialled in blinkers a few times and went like the wind in front, and early trials when she didn't switch on were without blinkers.

Made my thoughts of how she'd race look stupid, I expected her to lead by 5-6L, but the way she settled and controlled the race was impressive.
