Well at least they did not give a Melbourne Cup winner to Kris Lees, this time!

I would rather have the horse in Weir's stables, than their other Australian trainers!

Mr Garcia, impressive winner at Flemington during Cup week for Andreas Wohler, will make his debut for Darren Weir in Saturday's $300,000 Ballarat Cup (2200m).

But the imported galloper will have a new jockey as Kerrin McEvoy, who piloted the Paco Boy gelding to victory on Oaks Day, has elected to remain in Sydney and ride at Rosehill Gardens.

One of Darren Weir’s stable jockeys is expected to take the ride as Damien Oliver, Craig Williams and Damian Lane will all be in Perth riding in the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes at Ascot.

Jamie Lovett, who manages the ownership of Mr Garcia through his company Australian Bloodstock, said the intention is to run in the Ballarat Cup provided Weir continues to be happy with his progression.

“At this stage we are planning to run next Saturday,” he said.

“By all reports the horse has come through his Flemington win in good order and if the stable are happy with him this week, the Ballarat Cup looks a good option for him.”

I think we get a good gauge on where he is at.

There are some top off season types in here like Grey Lion, Second Bullet and Antonio.

He would be wanting to win this with 54, to be a autumn contender at some of the lower races, or considering his wet track form maybe Brisbane!

Intriguing galloper!
