He's so honest.

Where is mid race in a 1200 metre race? The sprint home starts at about the 500.

It was bleeding obvious, after the race- only one leader from barrier 1, slow pace- who do you back, dummy? Now why didn't I work that out before the race?

For how long will the "ego's" involved bleed money before reality hits? Or are many of the slot holders viewing their expenses merely as tax deductions?
Would some forumite be able to estimate slot-holders losses thus far? It should be very interesting especially if the next two years of potential losses are added

Trapeze Artist clearly the best horse imo. Vega magic was last year but redzel made its own luck.

Don't think they're really suffering huge losses. The rumoured deals were 300k up front from the horses owners + 50% of prizemoney. 12th place gets 300k, so without taking trainers/jockeys fees even if the horse comes dead last the slot holder loses about 150k if the horse comes last. Obviously if they run top 3 they're making millions. This will only get better when the prizemoney goes to 15 million. Remember they're only providing 600*12= 7.2 million of the prizemoney, when it is 15 million in two years, Racing NSW will be putting up 7.8 of it, but the slot holders will be finding it hard to lose money, even on the losers, at that point in time.

If the slot holders can’t lose money, they are redundant.
Something that I’m ok with. I don’t think they add anything if they aren’t looking at a big loss if they pick a tail ender in their slot. |

What a fizzer of a race! Only two horses ran to their peak ability, namely Redzel and Osborne Bulls. Pierata would have won the race.

I was on Osborne Bulls, and am still a bit bemused by that run/ride . Do you reckon if he hadnt gone so wide he might have finished closer ??

My analysis is that unlike last years where Redzel was clearly the dominant sprinter and won accordingly, the track had more to do with his win this year than his form.
The ATC, need to hope that next year is run on a dry track. I can guarantee you no overseas horse will even look at the race without a guarantee of a track which gives them at least an even chance. The win of Pierata confirmed the low level of th Everest, and that is the second year in a row now, that the consolation winner has perfromed better than any horse in the Everest. On thier performances Pierata would have slaughtered that field! |

What a nonsense statement. There was rain between the races and a lot of surface level water on the track. You can't compare the times. D'you honestly think Belflyer would have won the Everest?

Agree. Godolphin worked out the track and took the risk, and it paid off in The Everest. Same tactics applied in the final race for the 2 Godolphin runners and they finished 1st and 2nd.

I was amazed no one else did it. Especially given most weren’t happy in the ground

Maybe given the prizemoney involved nobody else wanted to tbe the one who tried and it didn't come off, you'd be forever caste as the jockey that blew the Everest!! Ala Shane Dye on Veandercross, despite the fact that the three or four others that followed his path in the Caulfield Cup that day all finished close behind, and were motoring past the inside runners...
