Looks like Hot King Prawn will be lining up again this weekend to try for 5 from 5. Up to Class 2 now.. will be interesting to see how he does, particularly after Size was talking down running him again this year after his last start, per below article:

The John Size-trained three-year-old didn’t have things all his own way in the lead, with the year-older Encore Boy eyeballing him for the first half of the race to see if there were any weaknesses in the grey’s make-up – there weren’t. Jockey Zac Purton hardly had to move on him again and this time put up both good margins and a very smart winning time as he made it four wins from as many starts. The win by more than two lengths will again attract the eye of the handicapper and, while we might be talking about Hot King Prawn this time next year as a Hong Kong Sprint runner, the rise into Class Two at this stage of his career will be a red flag to Size. Last season, during Nothingilikemore’s march up the ratings, Size made it clear he was not in favour of running immature three-year-olds in Class Two and that is where Hot King Prawn will find himself now. That angle bred some speculation that Size might take Hot King Prawn to the Griffin Trophy next start – against his own age, but over 1,400m – but the trainer knocked that on the head. “He might well win a race like that against three-year-olds but I never had any thought of running him there, just for the sake of winning a race. It isn’t my style,” Size said. “I’m more interested in his longer-term future, so we’ll see what the handicapper does with him and we’ll see if there is something in the programme that might be suitable, but if there’s not he might have a break for a few months. “There’s nowhere to hide once you’re in Class Two, they’ve all won a few races and can all gallop so it isn’t easy for an immature, inexperienced horse.” Until now, Purton has played down his opinion of Hot King Prawn, who beat nothing in two Griffin races last season, and didn’t have the strongest opposition in his first-up Class Three win either, but he was more generous in his praise after Sunday’s easy victory under a much heavier weight. “I was a bit surprised that Encore Boy tried to serve it up to me in the lead like that for as long as he did, because he was always going to come off second-best,” said Purton. “But all it did was show that my fellow had more left in the tank. I think that we saw more of what Hot King Prawn is about today than we have with him just coasting around on the bit. He was actually better today going flat out the whole way than he is if you sit up on him.” Tight against the outside rail, Hot King Prawn had to shrug off the attentions of Encore Boy and make his move early, which could have left him vulnerable. “He had to get rolling early to maintain his position and he was getting crowded for room, but once Encore Boy dropped off, my bloke just picked the bit up and surged and clicked himself into another gear,” Purton said. “He’s such a relaxed horse that I don’t think 1,200m is going to be a problem but John’s a master at picking out the right race, so I’ll leave the race planning up to him.” Hot King Prawn was the highlight of the day for most fans but especially for Size, who had no runner in the first four races then had frustrating defeats with Bond Elegance, House Of Fun and Calculation – the latter pair grabbed right on the line in the final two races. |

Looks like he's not far off a return - had his third trial yesterday and looked very good 1/2 length off Lucky Bubbles over the 1200m, 7 lengths back to the next horses. Will be interesting to see if Size runs him over the 1200m this time in - certainly more opportunity over that distance at the higher level.

Well, he could have one more enter the top ranks on Sunday and join the four rockets he has running in the Group One Chairman’s Sprint Prize. Perhaps the best example of Size’s extraordinary depth in the sprint division is that while he will dominate the betting for the Group One with Beat The Clock, Mr Stunning, Ivictory and Amazing Kids, he also has unbeaten three-year-old Hot King Prawn contesting a 1,200m Class Two on the undercard. Size has a total of eight 1,000m or 1,200m specialists rated 100 or higher and has won six of the seven sprint contests at Group level this season. The 98-rated Hot King Prawn can join his stablemates in triple figures in the Class Two Audemars Piguet Lady Millenary Handicap (1,200m) but will have to overcome some serious obstacles to do it. Hot King Prawn has to carry the top weight of 133 pounds against mostly older horses, is first-up for more than three months and tackles a turn and 1,200m for the first time. Jockey Zac Purton has been aboard for each of Hot King Prawn’s five victories, all of them at short prices and each with a sense of ease that indicated a bright future. Purton said the weight was the biggest concern, pointing to the recent defeat of youngster Lean Perfection when 1.6 favourite as evidence of the adage “weight can stop trains”. “It’s not easy, there have been a couple of three-year-olds lately that have got to the top of Class Three and hit a brick wall, so we are mindful of that factor, but you can’t keep them locked in a box forever,” he said. The Australian is less concerned about Hot King Prawn’s lay-off and the added degree of difficulty brought by a turn and step up in trip. “John likes to give his three-year-olds a bit of time once they get to a mark, so there was nothing wrong with him, it was just a matter of letting him develop,” he said. Hot King Prawn has trialled three times since December, the last of those on April 17 over 1,200m on the all-weather track. “He has come back in really good order and improved from one trial to the next,” he said. “And, importantly, I think he handled himself well at 1,200m around a corner.” Another slight concern is an awkward draw, from where Hot King Prawn will have to show his early dash in a race that contains fellow front-runners California Fortune (Joao Moreira), Shamal (Victor Wong Chun) and E-Super (Jack Wong Ho-nam). “It’s too early to talk tactics, I need to take a good look at the race, but he has shown he has gate speed and I would expect that he will be handy,” Purton said. Unfortunately had to give my boy Wishful Thinker 7.5kgs who didn't have the clearest of runs but when you've got a turn of foot like he does 52.5 probably feels like nothing

Ran the opening 800m faster than any in the Group One over the same distance, carrying 7 pounds more, first up and at three.. On times he still beats half the Chairman's Sprint Prize field home with the extra weight. Don't think he's met his limit just yet.

Won again the other day his first time around Happy Valley - now 6 wins from 8 starts.
Looks like he may make his next start in G3 company in October, rating is up to 112 - not bad for a 3yo over there. |

He took the leg up on Hot King Prawn after an undistinguished start to the day – with no placings from his first six rides – but the Brazilian was all smiles again after Hot King Prawn took his record to nine wins from 10 attempts. “It’s such a pleasure to be back riding a horse like this for John,” he said. “He was so fast out of the gate and when I asked him to go in the straight I was always confident that he could hold on.” Hot King Prawn’s chances of holding on were increased considerably by the fact that Moreira was able to secure the lead without using up anything like as much energy as the early leaders in the previous two Gr2 contests on the card had to expend. The freewheeling grey put his nearest pursuer Ivictory in trouble as he stretched for home early in the home straight and opened up a lead of a couple of lengths soon after. Mr Stunning and Karis Teetan found full stride in the final 150m, but Moreira had judged things perfectly on the winner, who hit the line with half a length to spare in a time of 1m 08.59s. The winner’s stablemate Beat The Clock stayed on willingly after a lengthy break to finish an honourable third with Winner’s Way in fourth, but things didn’t go well for the rest of the Size quintet as Ivictory, Premiere and D B Pin filled the last three places.
“He’s made gradual improvement and keeps coming up with the goods,” he added. “We keep turning him out but he helps himself both at home and at the races.” Size is well aware that Hot King Prawn’s last two successes have come without too much pace pressure and that a new set of rivals may offer something different when he bids to land the Gr1 LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) on 9 December. “Pressure for the lead is a concern and I’m sure someone will come up with a plan, but I think this horse can adapt. I haven’t had a chance to check the other horses yet but Silvestre (de Sousa) was very happy with Beat The Clock and he should improve for today’s run.” Connections of those who chased the winner home in this dress rehearsal for the Hong Kong Sprint will be well aware that only one Jockey Club Sprint winner in the last decade has gone on to follow up in the December showpiece. That one horse was Mr Stunning last year and Teetan, who felt that a bump from Ivictory harmed his cause, is relishing the chance to take on Hot King Prawn on better terms next month. He said: “Zac’s horse smashed into him and he fell back half a length but he got his momentum late and hit the line strong.” De Sousa felt that the lack of a searching pace wasn’t ideal for Beat The Clock and feels “he could be a very smart horse for next time,” but Purton remains in the dark about why Ivictory has failed to shine this season and conceded that “he just doesn’t seem at his best at the moment.” No such comment applies to Hot King Prawn and Mr Stunning and the stage is now set perfectly for round three back at Sha Tin in three weeks’ time. The record reflects that Hot King Prawn came out on top by a length and a quarter when receiving 11lb in the Premier Bowl and by just half a length when receiving 5lb today. Level weights will apply when Mr Stunning attempts to join Falvelon, Silent Witness, Sacred Kingdom, Lord Kanaloa and Aerovelocity as dual winners of the Hong Kong Sprint, but Moreira has ample faith in his new best friend.
