Wasn't even supposed to be running in this, supposed to be in the paddock for a horse prep

Might have to look at the Adelaide Cup

I think I heard/saw that both AM and Timikar (purchased as a group) have both been doing a fair bit of jumping and spending a bit of time on the water walker. They were in full work when Lloyd sold them so they've been up a while, AM is off to the water walker tomorrow for 2 weeks.

Williams cast off lands Bagot

BY Adrian Dunn

Annus Mirabilis, purchased from Lloyd Williams with a jumps career in mind, secured a bonus for his new connections with his win in the Listed Bagot Handicap.

And, Annus Mirabilis, formerly trained by Aidan O’Brien before Williams bought him, is now likely to be given the chance to add the $400,000 G2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville on March 13 before he begins his jumping career.

Purchased by a group that includes Melbourne Racing Club chairman Mike Symons and VRC Director Peter Fekete, Annus Mirabilis was specifically targeted as a jumper

“He was bought to win a Warrnambool Maiden,” joked trainer Stuart Webb.

Annus Mirabilis and Timikar, another ex-European were purchased as a package from Williams for about $180,000. Both were bought as the owners are avid jumps supporters.

With his win in the Bagot, Annus Mirabilis has now earned his new connections more than $120,000.

Webb admitted the Bagot was an after thought for Annus Mirabilis to contest as he had planned to send both he and Timikar to the water-walker for a month before preparing them for the jumps season.

He said the Bagot became a serious option when his win at Ladbrokes Park was analysed, particularly his closing sectional splits.

“He peeled off sectionals that were equivalent to a couple of the mile (1600m) and 1800m races,” Webb said.

“They way he’s staying, we’re obviously going to have to re-address where we are heading.

“The Adelaide Cup is now in March and he is such a genuine stayer. He is so clean winded that we will probably have a look at that.

“He’s an easy horse to train and he’s sound. He’ll definitely go to the water-walker this week for a couple of weeks then we’ll decided what to do with him.”

Annus Mirabilis, the $3.60 favourite, was afforded a lovely ride by apprentice Regan Bayliss as he put the six-year-old to sleep when Kevin Forrester allowed Cinnamon Carter to bowl along in front.

When a gap appeared at the top of the straight, Bayliss drove Annus Mirabilis through and with a wink of the eye the $150,000 race was as good as over.

Bayliss, who earlier rode the David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Flying Light to win the Straight Draw Handicap, was kind on Annus Mirabilis as he coasted to a two and a half length win from Anemoi, $21, with three-quarters of a length to Thunder Teddington, $10, third.

The 19-year-old is now within six wins of Dwayne Dunn, who leads the metropolitan premiership.

Couldn't quicken at the end of 2000m, but an impressive effort nonetheless to stick on so well.

Will be a fantastic chance in the Adelaide Cup on 13th March.

Well this is another Adelaide Cup winner that got away from Williams. The other one being Tanby a couple of years ago

Noticed this former Adelaide Cup winner is listed as ‘Deceased’ on the Racing Australia website.

Was beaten 100 lengths at his last start at MV last month, so I can only assume he went amiss in that race

I read somewhere he was fighting for his life last month after getting an infection. Sad outcome by the looks.
