Thought this fellow was a blackbooker Randwick yesterday when 3rd over 1600m at his first start for 10 months.

He went into the NZ Derby last season just two months after his debut.  Back in a hopeless spot on the turn he weaved through late to get into 4th, distanced by Mongolian Khan and Volkstok obviously.  Dee I Cee looked more the late bloomer you'd expect to make a Cups horse in time.  His last NZ run he again didn't get much luck before hitting the line strong behind Exquisite Jewel/Werther.  A year on it is looking a better than average crop.

I was expecting 1600m to be on the short side yesterday but he kept up and kept going.  There isn't usually much depth in the Sydney staying ranks so he should have a good time of it over 2000-2400 during the autumn away from the big guns.  He's entered in the Sydney Cup so will likely be trying to win his way in through the grades.

Article from The Informant when he was sold last year

Phill Cataldo has recruited another top young staying prospect for Gai Waterhouse.
The Otaki bloodstock agent has a proven record with the leading trainer and he has recently secured the promising three-year-old Dee I Cee for her Sydney stable.
Cataldo’s past list of purchases for Waterhouse includes the Group One winners Descarado (Caulfield Cup, Caulfield Stakes) and Herculian Prince (The Metropolitan).
Like Descarado, Dee I Cee has made his early mark under the guidance of Wanganui trainer Kevin Myers.
“Coming out of the same stable has helped and it’s a real credit to Kevin,” Cataldo said “Dee I Cee looked magnificent when I inspected him and we certainly haven’t seen the best of him yet – he’s untapped.
“He’ll go to Tulloch Lodge on Tuesday and Gai will assess him once he’s there.”
Dee I Cee heads to Sydney with a record of two wins and two placings from six starts. He was a close fourth in the Gr. 1 New Zealand Derby.
His final outing resulted in a late finish for sixth in the Gr. 3 Manawatu Classic after the son of Istidaad had been shuffled back in the running.
“He’s done it all on one preparation and he turned in some outstanding runs leading into the Derby,” Cataldo said.
“His maiden win at Wanganui after covering extra ground was strong and he did it in the style of a very good stayer.
“To come from so far back in the Derby behind Mongolian Khan and Volkstok’n’barrell was impressive.
“Physically, he’s getting better all the time. I always thought he was a small horse, but he’s got a lot of leg under him and he might get to 16 hands. He’s got a great temperament and a stack of stamina.”

I agree - nice horse, and one of the few of Gai's I've backed in recent memory - hope she doesn't ruin him brfore she retires!Dead
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

Cue the faux outrage - Gai has been sacked. Now with Weiry.

Gai had him entered in a hurdle trial before the 2018 jumps season began but he was scratched from the trial.

The Istidaad breed excel as jumpers over in NZ, so maybe DKW will head down that path with him too.

First start for DKW on Saturday at Pakenham over 1600m.

Handy stayer on his day, will be interesting to see where he heads this campaign.

Looks one of his Tasmania horses for early next year.

Would have loved to see him set for the Bagot second up but it is what it is!

This Istidaad gelding has accepted for the maiden hurdle at Warrnambool on Thursday.

He hasn’t shown much in 2 flat runs this year for Ciaron but here’s hoping he can reignite his career over the hurdles.
