It can certainly get out of hand Shawy.  We've recently sold our property and moved to a residential block in Bendigo where there's no room for boarders in the backyard.  Wink

Just as a postscript, sold the half brother to Patrick (see above) into the performance field and he just didn't make it, however he was certainly well cared for during and thankfully after unrealized attempts to make him a Showy.

It’s poppycock about not thinking the horse will be happy in the paddock.
Sure he might be habituated to stable life after all this time, but thousands of years of being a herd animal soon kicks in and they revert to doing what horses love to do before humans have other ideas.....
Eat grass and hang out with your mates, and hope there’s a feed bin involved somewhere 👌🐎🐄🦓🐘🐫🐂🐐🦌

Didn’t really start racing in earnest until he was a 5yo.

Not sure if that’s been the key to his longevity, or perhaps that tough South Island breeding - Yamanin Vital x Noble Bijou damline.

He won’t find it easy on Sat up against Lloyd’s younger stayers like Homesman & Yucatan, but great to see him go around nonetheless. Hopefully acquits himself well & maybe jags a placing.

I remember Northerly not racing until he was a 4 yr old. Rogan Josh the same. Thus has helped WSTB's career in terms of longevity. Hopefully he runs well on Saturday

Northerly started twice as a 3yo.

I did not know that Rogan Josh didn't start until he was 4. Wonder what that was about? Injury? So slow early they couldn't be bothered racing him?

Rogan didn't race until he was a 4 year-okd because his owners wanted him to fully develop and mature. Everytime they took Rogan Josh to trackwork as a youbger horse - he woukd get sore. He was about 17 hands which is big...they wanted Rogan Josh to "grow into his body" so to speak. The benefits of being patiebt helped Rogan Josh because he had younger legs of a young horse...even though he won stakes races asna 6 yr old and 7 yr old.
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

A half sister to the great WSTB won at Benalla today.

Flag Edition - by Raise the Flag x Ears Carol.

Trained by Michelle Payne & sensibly given plenty of time. She’s a 5yo and today was only her 3rd start.

Would be great to see her progress to bigger & better things from here. And would be a fantastic story if Michelle could train a really nice stayer.

Who Shot Thebarmans Australian fans have just a few weeks left to visit the remarkable stayer before he returns to New Zealand to continue his retirement in his home country.

The former Chris Waller trained gelding has spent the last two years at Melbournes Living Legends farm for retired star racehorses.

Were saying, last drinks with the Barman, Who Shot Thebarman, or Barry, as we call him. Living Legends CEO & Veterinary Director, Andrew Clarke, said.

Its probably unlikely that hell be back in Australia again.

Its a great opportunity for people to come out and catch up with him again or see him for the final time and get a photo of one of the legends of the turf.

Who Shot Thebarman retired from racing as a 10-year-old in the spring of 2018.

He started his career in New Zealand, where he won the Avondale Cup and the Auckland Cup, before he was transferred to Chris Waller.

Under Wallers training, the son of Yamanin Vital was a regular competitor in Australias biggest staying races and won a Sydney Cup, Zipping Classic, The Bart Cummings, and Moonee Valley Cup.

It was through Who Shot Thebarmans owners, the OLeary family, that the horse spent the early years of his retirement at Living Legends.

The situation always was that the OLearys said that, initially we could have him for a year, and when COVID hit, they extended that out for another year, which was just fantastic of them, and its been so great to have the horse at the farm, Clarke said.

Hes been in our Legends Under Saddle program, hes one of those iron horses that people just love.

Who Shot Thebarman, he raced in four Melbourne Cups, five Sydney Cups, won a Sydney Cup, quirky sort of a horse in lots of ways, but just one of those great iron horses thats just been so special to have at the farm for people to come and see and also take him out to some race meetings as well.

Who Shot Thebarman is booked to fly to New Zealand on December 9.
