From the article: He is also understood to be back riding and re-educating horses though he cannot be involved with preparing a horse for racing. Horses are also agisting at his property. though is known to retain his passion to work again training horses in some form and re-engaging in exercising this batch of horses is said to have assisted in helping mental health issues associated with the long running case. |

So, did the penny drop for him when he read the 23rd explanation, or is he out of phone credit

Haha. Bonjour would not be out of phone credit, but we need to stop getting personal here. Sorry Rusty, but I am one of the team who HONESTLY believes that the cheats are crippling out great sport. Tell me what benefits Weir, Currie, Ryan and company actually bring to this game? If it’s not cleaned up, the next generation will focus on sports betting where they feel it is not corrupt. But I do love watching the boxing in here

Whereas I'm quite sure you're missing the point in this particular and latest discussion Batman. No-one here wants cheats in racing, so in that respect we all agree with you and Bonjour.
But what other members have posted simply represents the current situation, which in essence is that Weir isn't a licensed person so is entitled to do what he likes with horses on his property. Exactly like the girl or boy up the road can do with their own horse: walk, canter, gallop, jump, swim them, whatever. Member iamt particularly nailed it with regard to the Rules of Racing 5.4 License Conditions, in effect: unlicensed individuals can do whatever they want with agisting and preparing a horse provided it moves to a licensed premises at least 28 days before its next start. Whether Weir is ultimately granted a license or not is an entirely different matter. |

Any thoroughbred being handled by a non licensed property/business should be barred from racing.

You add zero to any debate.
A thoroughbreds every minute should be accounted for. We are far too lax in this country. The fact Weir can have anything to do with potential racehorses is a blight on this industry. Why did they pick 28 days as the cut off point ?

Sorry but anyone who can purposely inflict pain on a horse, does not love horses.

Rools are rools fella, for better or worse. But more to the point your prior post is entirely remiss given there are hundreds, indeed thousands, of entities who have businesses which assist with a thoroughbred's development: but who aren't and have no demonstrable need to be licensed persons.
But by your Rule of Thumb the horses they assist should be banned from racing. Sorry, Australia isn't a totalitarian State.

And fyi, because it seems to have been over looked, Weir pled guilty to 3 charges of using the jigger. Yet people are still blind eyed to him? |

Irrelevant in this particular discussion, but certainly entirely relevant regarding his possible application to be re-licensed.

RVL are bringing in a welfare charge for licensing, but as he was charged and pled guilty, but didnt acquire charges on record (cannot remember the name its called), will that provide a loop hole :(

Unfortunately, people just can’t be given life, like they were in the good ol days. Currie is a perfect example of how the legal system here stymies that. ATM, and for the foreseeable future Weir will not be licensed, as he needs to clear the fit and proper hurdle first.(brought in “coincidentally “ literally just before he’d served his sentence) But fools that get on here, suggesting it’s against horse welfare for him to feed and rug them, and can’t explain why, deserve to be called out for their stupidity. Same as any fool suggesting he’ll get the jigger out 5 weeks before a horse races. Or, fill them full of drugs to enhance their performance over a month prior. That’s just idiocy. And then there’s Bonjour. I just hope his carer got him home safely this arvo…..

Rusty, plenty can happen just with agisting and breaking horses. Could slip some youngsters steroids to give them a boost in growth, can introduce them to the jigger, so that when it is applied in racing, or if they go to a stable that has certain practices, will get a small refresher before they race. A lot of shady things go on well before horses enter race stables

Cmon, Anything is possible. Explain why anyone would do the things you’re suggesting, for the type of money he’s charging. It’s ludicrous. And it’s 10 x more likely a breeder would give a growth hormone than a disgraced horse breaker/agister, who’s not doing it for the money.

Who is "us" ? From the time a thoroughbred is foaled it is not allowed certain drugs. If a Thoroughbred is going to unlicensed people what checks and balances are there with regards to those horses ? Are these thoroughbreds going missing for periods of time ? There whole life should be monitored and traceable. This is a billion dollar industry run and played by amateurs in Australia. No wonder we have horses bred to look like Rob De Castella but built like Ben Johnson. |

Us is all the 1000s of unlicensed and unrecognised entities that work with thoroughbreds, as mentioned by SC. Many are just worker ants that feed em, float em, fix fences, pick up sh1t etc.
I do agree with you djebel but unfortunately in reality there just isn’t the accountability systems in place and there just isn’t enough workers. The struggle to get staff is real, let alone good ones. And the pay down low is atrocious.

And FWIW I think the 28 days is reasonable, though perhaps 60 days would be safer. You know, to get the drugs, ‘treatments’ etc out of their systems,
