ROLF Harris is spending his days in his jail cell sketching other inmates and their families to keep them onside after anger at his apparently receiving preferential treatment from jail authorities.

Prisoners at the HMP Bullingdon in Oxfordshire were reportedly incensed after the 84-year-old Australian entertainer was given a job in the prison garden ahead of those who had sought the role for sometime.

Harris, serving five years and nine months after being found guilty of sexually assaulting four girls, had been offered money and gifts to do sketches but decided to do them for free.

Now prisoners call the sketch sessions “Rolf Prison Cartoon Club” after his hit 1990s TV show Rolf’s Cartoon Club. The sessions are done between 4.30pm and 6.30pm when prisoners in the jail’s E Wing are allowed to move between cells.

Many of the sketches aren’t just of the inmates but of their families as well with Harris using photographs to do caricature portraits for them.

“Harris has been overwhelmed by requests,” one prisoner told The Sun newspaper.

“He did four or five sketches within two weeks of arriving and now everyone wants one. The pictures are just 10 minute cartoon sketches but the inmates love them.

“Harris was reluctant at first but he wants to win them over.”

Harris was reportedly spat on and verbally abused in jail after two months ago being found guilty in Southwark Crown Court on 12 charges of indecently sexually assaulting four girls from 1968 to 1986. He is to appeal the decision.

His presence in the jail was also unsettled after he was given the gardening job shortly after arriving, jumping a queue of other inmates who had sought the plum role over the usual toilet cleaning duties.

According to one prisoner his sketches were a way to “curry favour” with his fellow inmates.

He was actually a very nice person.  At least thats the way he came across to me.   Very respectable and down to earth, and didnt say or do a thing you could consider to be wrong or "off" .  Spoke well to the staff. Really couldnt fault him.  Bit of a shock whe "it" hit the fan and all the stuff came out about him.
