Okay for you stallion experts out there ..

.. I've got a mate that is looking at taking on a very good stallion that is perfectly fertile but has a dreadfull libido problem where he can take up to an hour .. but if something small distracts him, he's hopeless.

I've got a number of thoughts here as to how he can be 'revived' but I'm sure someone here can give me some good suggestions.

The stallion is 14 years old.

You are going to think this is stupid but it works on the stallions I have tried it on. If you go to your local supermarket, you will find in the medicine section products called Horny Goatweed, Libido etc., basically herbal sex drugs for men. We usually buy the Libido brand because it is cheap, but all brands have about the same levels of active ingredient. Crush four tablets to powder, and add it to the stallion's feed at night, and if you want more impressive results, both feeds. We only use the product during the season.

I tried the stuff myself before giving it to the stallion concerned, and it did nothing for me. But the effect on the stallion was phenomenal. Being an animal we can rule out the placebo effect in the stallion's case. Bit disappointed at my own results tho!

The other thing we have had success with is voyeuristic sex. We arrange so that the wimpy boy can watch one of the more sexually athletic stallions work. That seems to fire wimpy up, and he comes out on all fives when his turn comes around.

One stallion in particular needed to have his mare dressed up. He went through a phase of only covering mares we had put a rug over. Thankfully that phase is now over. It was a white cotton rug. Must have had a thing for blondes.

Finally, the snuffleupagus has been a win. This invloves a rag soaked in in season mare pee being hung over the stallions beak about 20 minutes before service. The collection of mare piddle is one of the least sought after jobs on the stud. You have to use it fairly fresh. It goes black and horrible if you leave it out.

If none of that works I have a few other tricks.

Willy I don't know if this any help to you, but I remember some years ago there was a stallion by the name of Zephyr Bay and if my memory serves me he was classed as a shy breeder.
His owner was was a veterinarian and like I said if my memory is correct he used to breed with during the night time. There is more to this then I have stated but it would be easy to find out.Smile

Thanks ILALA and ARCHWAY.

Interesting suggestions and I'm confident that this horse can be "sorted".

We had considered a number of these suggestions .. and the mare dressing up one is interesting. The in the dark suggestion worth a go. Also, getting his opposition to do the act as well.

VIAGRA or the herbal equivalents of LIBIDO or IGNITE had been on the list.

I'm a big believer in deer velvet and would probably introduce that regardless .. but a blood test to check his blood will be a first step.

Maybe mares on his fenceline .. 2 'hotwires' apart might be worth a try .. or some nympho pony sized thing to run with him.

Thanks again.

Just the sort of ideas we needed here.  ;)

Has this horse had large books in the past?
Mares on his fenceline are an invitation to trouble -put them with him to get them pregnant.

I think this was about a case where mares were not getting in foal.
These days stallions are too valuable to be let operate naturally.

This is from the book "Bloodstock- Breeding Winners in Europe and America" by James Gill (1977)..
The extract is from the section on The Irish National Stud.

"If Stud Manager Michael Osborne MRCVS lacks nothing by way of modern scientific aids, new buildings and equipment, it is, perhaps, a return to nature which has proved the most startling of his successful initiatives, with Tepukei (Major Portion— Cutter, by Donatello II) being left to run with his mares.
The only small variation from mating in the wild is the removal of a mare already covered, as the stallion shows a regrettable tendency towards monogamy.
Results, so far, indicate a higher than normal fertility rate, despite the fact that Tepukei, who won the White Rose Stakes at Ascot and the St George's Stakes at Chester in 1973, has been given some woeful breeders - one of the mares he got in foal in 1976 had been barren for eight years.
Since his first season in 1974, Tepukei has learned a great deal about the art of seduction, approaching a mare only in the latter stages of her season. and executing a couple of exploratory mounts from the side to ensure that there will be none of the kicks he suffered in his tearaway days as the paddock rapist.
The free-range services of Tepukei, who covers half-bred, hunter and Irish Draught mares, as well as thoroughbreds, cost £200."
