He won 1 race as a 3yo, lol.

Won 3 stakes races as a 2yo though. Moody said he was always a 2yo too, don't think he'll be winning any good races in open company if he continues to race in spring.

Lads he has been amazing for his connections,10 starts for 6 wins and won his 1st 2 starts thats what owners dream of money in the bank!!!

Ok hes not a"Champion like Black Caviar Sunline etc" but a champion horse you'd love to own every  day of the year.

I know l would and my trainer Matt Williams would be and Alison Bennett and John Moloney reckon you could take your pick and all trainers would be sayin they'd love a Golden Archer in their stable every day of the week!!!LOLLOL

He went back into work this week. Had a heel injury from a paddock accident in the early autumn. Missed out on valuable time to estabilish some sort of future at stud in all the good sprint races in the autumn, (with black caviar & gelding-hay list winning most) could have even been a kings stand type of horse on his best form. It's unfortunate but at least he is back for another go, July at earliest.

Thanks wishing well for update l was there for his 1st run and can remember saying how strong he looked in the yard.

It could be your good fortune that hes had some extra time off to develop and reckon he will comeback and be the sprint horse to beat until BC is back again!!!

Started 7 times as a 2yo which is a big ask of any youngster.

But still commenced well as a 3yo before a shocker in the Caulfield Gns Prelude.  May have come out of the race with a problem.  If he's had another setback, as suggested, let's hope it's not a recurrent problem.

Either way a good recuperative spell won't do him any harm whatsoever.
It's hard to soar with eagles...

Cheers

Golden Archer Retired and Looking for a Stud
Breednet - Media Release - Friday, 19 April 2013

Hot on the heels of the Black Caviar decision, the Peter Moody stable has today announced the retirement of another one of its top class performers in Golden Archer.

"Golden Archer has been a great stalwart for our team. Over the past two and a half seasons only Black Caviar has won more black type races for the stable,"  Moody stated.

"Unfortunately he was galloped on in The Galaxy. The injury was not severe however, combined with normal racing wear and tear, plus with him being a stallion we have decided the timing was right to retire him to stud,” Moody commented.

Golden Archer finishes his racing career with eight wins and earnings of $676,950. He excelled at distances from 1000m to 1200m. He won five stakes races, three of these stakes wins coming as a 2yo.

Golden Archer's most notable win came as a 3yo in the Group 3 MRC HDF McNeill Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield. After his comfortable 1-3/4 lengths victory Peter Moody commented "You would love a stable full of him. He is just a professional racehorse. He is just a tremendous horse. He is a bloody good horse too. He has done very little wrong throughout his career.”

A spelling paddock accident in early 2012 curtailed most of his 3yo season and cost him a crack at Melbourne's big autumn sprints as well as a possible trip to England alongside champion stable mate Black Caviar. When Golden Archer finally did return to the track in July last year, he recorded an outstanding first up win at Flemington over 1000m. Stable manager Jeff O'Connor told the waiting press, "We spoke about taking him to Ascot this year but he had a setback. It's great to get him back and full credit to the team” O'Connor said. "He just got his foot caught in a hole in a fence in a paddock in his build-up to the autumn. He was going to contest all the (big) sprints. It took ages just to get him right. He's a terrific horse and he'll get his chance in the better races now.”

In early spring last year Golden Archer returned to win the Listed MRC The Shark.com.au Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield. After the easy win Peter Moody was again lavish in his praise for his stable star and said he had expected Golden Archer to be his Lightning Stakes horse last autumn. ''As it turned out Black Caviar won it, but before he injured himself I really fancied him in the Lightning and had him in line for a trip to England for those sprints as well, so that's what I think of him,'' the trainer said. ''I think he's in the top half-dozen sprinters in the country. He's a hell of a good horse.”

After his Caulfield win Golden Archer vindicated his trainer's opinion of being one of Australia's top sprinters. He was within a length of Group 1 winner Bel Sprinter in the Group 3 MVRC Ian McEwan Stakes (WFA - 1000m) and then ran a strong second to another top one in Buffering in the Group 2 MRC Schillaci Stakes (WFA - 1000m). First up this campaign he finished a gutsy third in track record time to superstar Black Caviar in the Group 1 VRC Lightning Stakes (WFA - 1000m), before being sent to Sydney for a crack at the Group 1 ATC The Galaxy where unfortunately he sustained an injury during the race.

Golden Archer is a son of World Champion racehorse Rock of Gibraltar (by Danehill). At stud Rock of Gibraltar has sired over 80 stakes winners around the world. Golden Archer's dam is NZ Group 2 winning Pins mare Viennetta. He comes from the same family of another high class Moody trained horse in Champion 3yo Australian Miler and Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva and his brother Champion 3yo Stayer and Australian Derby winner Headturner.

Randwick Bloodstock's Brett Howard has been employed to field inquiries from studs looking to secure the sprinter's services.

"I think Golden Archer will do a great job for whichever farm gets him. He's a particularly good looking sprinter. I know broodmare owners will not be disappointed once they inspect him and if he sires foals that look like him they will be well received in the sales ring,” commented Howard.

"Very good sprinters such as Magic Albert, Sequalo and Written Tycoon all failed to win at Group 1 level however, they have proven to breeders you don't have to win at the elite level and be by a fashionable stallion to be a success at stud in Australia. You just need to be fast, strong and tough, and shown good form as a 2yo and 3yo, and Golden Archer absolutely meets these criteria,” Howard concluded.

Notice he had a winner today. Any thoughts on how he’s going at stud?

Shrunk, could you start a new thread in stallions? I'm sure there'll be more than a few posts over his career, so yours will be a good start Big smile

He's getting winners, including in Singapore.  Last year he was the leading Qld first season sire, but it wasn't a great year for Qld.  No black type horses yet, but his two year olds could be better than last year's.
